    I paid $300 cash on FB a month ago for a used 6.75 model and discovered it has the same problem. Vacuums for a few seconds then stops. Your video is the only one I could find that address this problem. I may be able to JB Weld the plastic part together that connects with the red nozzle lever without disassembly. I now wonder after starting the machine if the flap door pulls closed due to the strong suction which shuts off the vacuuming thru the nozzle. Would not have realized that until I saw your video. Why would Craftsman make such an important part in plastic?? 🤬 Thanks much. So many leaves to vacuum.

      I am very pleased that this video was beneficial to you. It was my first foray into UA-cam. I have never been successful using any of JB Weld or other epoxy adhesives on anything that took any type of stress. I have been using the machine for tree twigs and any woody plants and leaves in the fall and winter. I love it, it does what it was purchased for.

    Thanks for sharing! This is the exact same problem I'm have with my Troy-Bilt, runs fantastic just does not suck anymore. Was going to put it on curb for scrap but now will be able to fix it with that door not closing, appreciate the help!

      Hopefully this will help you fix this problem. Just as a helpful hint, you may only need to remove the hinge pin to be able to remove the door. Pay attention to the hinge pin springs as you re-install the hinge pin.

    Thank you. I just picked one up used for $90. I didn't notice that the lever for the door was busted. But from what I can see with the door missing it will pick up leaves but I won't be able to switch to the hose attachment. I will have to look into buying a new door and lever for this unit. But for now I have a blower-vac that can do what the hose does (If I'm thinking this through correctly.

      Great buy! Thanks for reviewing the video. Hope the unit is running well for you. Yes, with the door removed it should work just fine.

    Thank you for the video! I have the same model of vacuum and it is very helpful to know how to fix that part. You are right, there are not many videos showing how to work on this particular vacuum, so thank you for posting this.

    Everything on mine seems to be ok except the hose. it is a light suction but not enough to pick up anything. I replaced the plastic adapter that goes in the vac because the hole became larger from the pin over time, It vacs good chipper is good.. any thoughts?

      I found that when the bag becomes filled to a certain point, the hose doesn't suction as well. Some of the leaves were also getting stuck on any bends to the point I have to use a 10 piece of PVC pipe to clear the clog. The only other thing would be that the door is not closing completely to which it would affect the suction.

    Mr. Garza, do you have a video after this one showing re-assembly after you received the nozzle flap? I don't know how to affix the springs that go under the nozzle and through the rod.

    • @edwardgarza8844
      @edwardgarza8844  5 років тому

      I am sorry I don't. There are slots that the spring ends go into and you have to place the springs in one at a time. Place the spring in the slots and push the rod through. Continue to push the rod until you get to the other side and then place the spring in the next slots and push the rod through until it comes out the other side. You will need to install the cap to ensure the rod stays in place. You can see the slots for the spring ends at about 4:07 of the video and at 5:03 shows the example of positioning of the springs. You can also see how the hole of the spring will align in the rod supports where the rod will be pushed. Hope this helps.

      I would Google it or look it up on Sears.com or Amazon. The parts fit similar units from MTD. The part fits over the tab from the noozle door and has a spring and a shoulder spacer and a hex screw. A very simple set up. Hopefully the nozzle door is not the issue. If you haven't already downloaded the owner's/user's manual, I would do that just for the exploded view and parts break down with the part numbers. Good Luck.

    I’m sorry but you disassembled way, way, WAY TOO MUCH to replace that door. I had the exact same lever break off of my door. All you need to do is pry the cap off the end of the long hinge rod, take out the tiny bolt holding on the handle and handle spring, slide the hinge rod out and out drops the door and door springs. Reverse the process with the new door. 10 min tops. The only precaution needed is to note the positions of the door springs before you remove the hinge rod to be sure they go back in correctly. If you squeeze the tabs in on the rod’s end caps, they grip fine and can be reused.)

      You are correct. I learned that after it all came apart. It was my first venture with this machine and was very beneficial in the long term as it expanded my general knowledge of the various components. There just wasn't any videos of any repair work on this type machine at the time. Hope your machine gives you the same satisfaction as this one has given me.

      Sorry you had to go through all that.
      Although I wish it would mulch the leaves more for a smaller final volume, I do love the machine. I use the chipper a lot, too.

      My unit only vacuums for a few minutes each time I start it. Do you think this lever being broken is the problem?

    • @accidentalvoyeur
      @accidentalvoyeur 4 роки тому +1

      Ann Gibson
      If the lever is broken such that the door will not remain in one position or the other and can move on its own, then, yes, it is likely that is the reason it quits on you. In other words, whichever mode you have chosen to use (hose or bottom inlet), it randomly switches over to the other because the door won’t stay put.
      My machine works beautifully now but, as I said above, BE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you know the orientation of the two door springs BEFORE you take the door off. Trying to reinstall them while under tension when not being certain which way they were originally positioned was the biggest pain in the a**. Good luck.
