According to several studies that I have seen, the University of Michigan will spend more than $18 million this academic year on salary and benefits for its diversity, equity, and inclusion staff, according to an analysis by economics professor emeritus Mark Perry. That figure, which amounts to the cost of in-state tuition for 1,075 students, was paid out to more than 142 staff during the 2022 to 2023 school year, according to Perry’s analysis of public data. The university’s vice provost for equity and inclusion, Tabbye Chavous Sellers, is the highest-paid DEI staffer. Sellers, the wife of former DEI provost Robert Sellers, makes $380,000 plus benefits. Seventeen DEI staffers make more than $200,000 in total compensation, according to the data. Ninety-five staffers make more than $100,000 in total compensation.. These funds could be better spent providing scholarships for students from less fortunate backgrounds. Over 1,000 students could be helped rather than wasting funds on divisive bureaucrats.
Strange that he includes pictures and images of Dearborn and Flint and then doesn't include them them at 2:46 when he talks about "make the vision into a reality for our Ann Arbor campus."
Living in Texas and having my son's first year in college at UMich, I am SO HAPPY that DEI is STILL a core commitment for UMich. UT dismantled their DEI efforts and it directly affected MANY STUDENTS and families of that community due to state politics. It would be amazing to pour some of those DEI dollars into assistance for students to pay for tuition. UMich is VERY expensive, especially for us out-of-state families, and having diverse thoughts and experiences from students of different BGs and geography/locations could be part of your strategy. The vision areas are so critical for what is needed right now and well into the near future. I'm so happy of the choice my son made to attend UMich. THANK YOU!
President Ono--If diversity and inclusion are important on the U of M campus why did the University receive a grade of D on dealing with antisemitism on campus?
The University of Michigan has always been wiling to hear and value all perspectives, provided they are PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL. For 6 months, all this University has done is listen. But this has gone way past reasonable, even lawful behavior. Disrupting classes & ceremonies, storming offices on campus, threatening other students, defacement of property, is not peaceful or respectful and requires POLICY, and enforcement of this policy, to ensure safety and dignity for ALL students. No facism here. Just good leaders whose hands have been forced to set policy to restore order and decency to an excellent academic institution. Students are there to LEARN. Not disrupt the learning of others. If you don't like Michigan's policies, you are free (and welcome) to seek your education elsewhere. I applaud you, President Ono and our Board of Regents. And I look forward to the policies of this excellent institution being firmly and definitively enforced going forward.

Go Blue
Please address the horrible housing situation on/off campus.
"unparalleled excellence" and DEI cannot exist together. Zero sum competition. By definition you have to promote the lesser qualified.
PLEASE add some parking to your campus!
we are the city's builders, the ocean's keepers, the space explorers, the respect inverters, and the world binders. 🔝🦋🧬

And at the same time you are trying to apply fascist rulings at the school?
