I got in a fight with a kid who wasn’t on the football team during school and coach found out about it and made me run the entire perimeter of Berwick stadium twice. Not the field, not behind the bleachers, the entire brick wall.
I visited Berwick in the mid 80’s with some friends who used to live there. That entire town eats, sleeps and breathes Berwick Bulldogs. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was pretty cool
When my brother was born on a Friday, my Dad stayed with my Mom at the Berwick hospital. And then as soon as he was born, he kissed my Mom and went straight to the football game, lol.
I graduated from HS in 1990 and kept up with Bulldog football annually from grade school in the early '80s on up and moreso once my cousin Jason was the ballboy as an 11-yr old in 1988! He was a two way starter for the Bulldogs in '94 and '95 so to say I'm familiar with Berwick would be an understatement
Damn that's crazy I was actually in 7th grade living in Texas when this was filmed! That was my first year playing tackle football in full pads competitive for my school and I'm sure that was the same thing for you back in the day as well. I remember when this was aired on TV and was literally glued to the tv because I was so fascinated with high school football and even told my uncle how can a small town high school team with nothing but a bunch of white boys be the best team in the country? Went to Berwick Pa years later when we stayed there for a few days and man they take that sport seriously like we do in Texas.
Exactly.. Its well kmowthey recruited good players from all over, gave their parents good jobs locally and BOOM!!! winning football team. I'm from Columbia County. People have known this for years. I was 16 years old at the time this was filmed. It was all common knowledge
Sorry, but when Perry, a city league team from Pittsburgh, beat Berwick back in 1989, George Curry accused the officials of being bought by the other team. This false accusation caused George Curry, and rightfully so, to be put on probation. Then there were the illegal recruiting violations that he was suspected of. Yet, here he is preaching team, discipline, character, attending church, being in bed by 10:00pm, and running laps if you’re 1 minute late, and all of that other stuff just to look good in front of the camera. WHAT A JOKE. I’m not a judge or jury but the man wasn’t perfect, but yet they make him out to be here. When he messes up, Curry got a free pass but the kids had to run laps. That’s a double standard.
Another great video on the Berwick Bulldogs..Rip George Curry and the Cat..the heart of Berwick
Tuff tuff kids in those years knew what a whoopin was when misbehaved and the parents left the coaches coach their boys
06:16 Never seen a football coach like that. Haha
Much respect to Berwick and Coach Curry. Berwick was one of the toughest football teams around.

What happened to Dante the quarter back after breaking his arm? Did he play again?
He did but as a receiver
The coach's wife's eyes have a look of quiet desperation.
