- Standing on a sled hours on end in -30C weather can be tough to your hands. This is how I keep my hands and fingers warm when working outdoors in extreme cold weather!

5:30 Mike Tyson called, he wants his gloves back! ;)
This is the most thorough vid I've seen on how to keep your hands/fingers warm in extreme cold.
The beaver gloves looks like Muppets. Just need to add googly eyes. 👁️. Thanks for sharing the gloves.
That would be hilarious 🤣
Maiu, I will try to explain to you why beaver fur is the best you can have in cold cold weather. Like many other kinds of fur, beaver fur can provide you with an incredible level of warmth, making it ideal for winter outerwear. First, it has a built-in wetsuit consisting of two layers of fur. There’s a shorter, thick underfur that traps warm air against the skin. This is protected by a longer layer of fur called guard fur, which keeps water away from the layer underneath. Beaver fur is also waterproof because of oil produced in castor glands near the base of the tail. All of these nifty features come in handy, as beavers spend a lot of time in the water and can remain underwater for 15 minutes at a time. So, whomever made you those huge mittens really likes you because they are the best mittens possible in cold cold weather, I live in Canada so I kind of know what it is when the temperature goes in the - 30 +.
Thank you for that info! It's great to know more technical info about the items I love!
They cost like 300-400 bux (australian)
A: I have always, always had cold hands. Thank you for this video.
B: your granny gloves are the absolute prettiest gloves I've seen.
C: thank you for the video, it's nice to see you!
Those beaver fur mittens are awesome....and Granny's gear still rocks!
You should see how many Granny's socks I'm using here 😅
So interesting thanks! Love your new haircut - very pretty
Thank you so much. I have problems keeping my hands warm, and your video will help.
Those big gloves are badass!! Thanks again for a very informative video.
When working on aeroplanes in -20°C I wore British aircrew leather gloves with or without silk liners. They kept my hands warm and supple enough to handle tools and small screws, plus they dried really quickly if they got wet. The only problem was that the thin leather could wear very quickly. In your case they would work well under mittens if you need to do some sensitive work.
Yeah, I agree that leather will wear down with hard use, especially when they get completely wet. That's why we are using here relatively cheap leather gloves for harder work and I have to change them about 3 times a season.
Those beaver gloves is a piece of art, awesome. Hop You have a good time and great season up in the north Maiu!
Fun and quite an informative watch.
Greetings from Southern California, my hiking friend. Great point about the synthetic gloves being better for warmer weather.
I work as a snowmobile guide in the north of Finland and absolutely love the hestra job gloves for working. For snowmobile expeditions or dog sledding i use a thin liner glove with the three finger hestra mitt over the top and then a big pair of leather mitts to keep the wind away. Gotta get some big expedition gloves theyre amazing
pretty good video`! i always thought your from finland`?
It is really cool to see how you have grown over the years. Rock on and thanks for the pointers on the gloves!
I am glad to see you making videos again, You are one of my favorite youtubers. Your advice is spot on. Over 50 years ago, I was in the military and we had very similar gloves. Wool under glove, with leather gloves over them and then big mittens over them. I never got cold wearing them. Do you use any kind of conditioner (oil) on your leather gloves to make them waterproof? I used to put Vaseline on them and allow them to sit by a heater overnight so that the leather could fully absorb it.
Yes, I use leather wax!
Very interesting!Thank you! 😊
I have always wondered how a person keeps their face nose and lips warm in sub zero temperatures with the wind whipping?
Hmm, you can't always... 😀 Using balaclavas and buffs, and keeping the skin well moisturised!
Very good video, but I got cold watching it . 😂 thanks for sharing your video, it was very interesting .
At the end I heard “When it’s zero Celsius, don’t do anything…..” I think you said something else, but I got the message. :)
You are absolutely adorable. I saw the tarp tent video on a recommend video. This was a good informative one also. You're totally cute and super nice
We have been seeing some very cold weather here in Montana USA lately -20 to -25 F and my fingers get cold very quickly. I just don’t have appropriate gloves.
Thanks for posting this video! :) ☃️
Maiu, what a collection of gloves and mitts you have👍
I love your dog and love Abba 👌
Not much snow in UK at present, there has been a limited amount of snowfall which melts really quickly. I'm in South Wales and today's temperature is 14°c and I'm jealous you have so much snow.
Thank you for your presentation atb Taff 🤠
Just came across your channel whilst looking for info to keep my hands and feet warm. I have just learned a lot from your videos on these subjects. It looks like I have been doing it all wrong by using the wrong materials. Many thanks for your helpand advice.
David in the U.K.
Thank you for this video! I always wait so happily for your next content! Your new job sounds amazing!!!!
Excellent video. 🧤
Great information. You give an honest view of gloves and mittens that work best in different temperatures from a cold day to a very very cold day.
I look forward to your next video.
Stay cool and keep warm. 😊
Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 😎
Always so interesting and entertaining. Feel like you are having a personal conversation with each of us! Is it just me or do others think you are glowing after having been sledding and having been away so long?
Thanks for the info , great to see you again
Thanks!!
Great tips and advice!! Thank you!!

07:17 tu tu dootu tooodooooo wtf 😂 🤣
Great video and tips! Was wondering how you keep the hands warm when sledding. Love the details you talked about, like how they hang behind your back and the importance of liners. And natural materials for the win! Going out hiking in my lavvu and stove alone with my dog this weekend. Expecting around -15C. Gotta love the outdoors!
Beaver mitts are nice, seal skin mitts are also nice 👍
Great tips! Thanks.
BUF BUF hahahaha
Loving those Bever gloves! Do you still have the gloves from your FJ Polar adventure?
Yes, I have all the gear from FJ Polar and used most of it during the mushing times!
Very informative, thanks
Thoose beaver gloves are awesome
Dear @Maui, how do you clean yourself in such harsh and cold conditions? do you have some suggestions?
By the way I really like this series of how to dress up in cold weather for hiking/existing :) please keep up these kind of videos.
I clean myself as usual, wouldn't say there are any big differences. The only special thing is not to wash your face in the mornings as you would strip away the natural oils that will protect your skin (bc your face is always the most exposed!)
@@MaiuLunekund Thank you, I thought it is somehow more complicated/special due to cold.
Sledding dogs in Sweden 😮frig i want more !
I love how she says minus 20 is not so cold 😮😮😮😮 l worked outdoors in minus 8 and thought l was going to die 😢
After -35C everything is not too bad 😀 And also, the body gets used to it and you learn to dress better ;)
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. What about silk liners? Stay safe. ATB Nigel
I have't used silk liners but I would assume they are not for extreme cold. Maybe for few freezing degrees?
@@MaiuLunekund Hi Maiu. Thank you for your swift reply and advice. Best wishes. Nigel
Good information. thanks
Hi! Those beaver mitts look awesome! Nice liners, too. I wanted to ask you whether your shop will have more of those knit gloves and/or mittens you sold a few years ago?
As I'm in Sweden and my Grandma with her kitted stuff back in Estonia it's hard to organize it logistically so no, not planning to sell them now 😔 Maybe during spring/summer when I go to Estonia? 😀 Weird timing but that would be the only time.
Thanks, @@MaiuLunekund! I'll keep an eye on your shop this Spring.
The big gloves look like boxing gloves. =D
Wow! I like that. But I can't have them! Because if I wore them, the urban hunters may think I am their bear! Thank you anyway.
Need a sled vid 😀
THIS IS MY DREAM JOB 😍😭😇
I have found the best tip for keeping my hands warm is to live in sunny Southern California. Problem solved.
Excellent video from an extremely attractive and strong, independent young woman!
How to figure out sizing when ordering the mittens and gloves online- when you want to adjust for wearing glovers of liners underneath? One, two, or three sizes up? I want to order from your links provided.
Do you have any tips for wearing eye glasses and face coverings (I HATE coating glasses in Vaseline) for anti fogging? Do any one there in Sweden wear ski goggles to keep the tiny bits of eyes that are exposed from freezing?
Also how to deal with the constant nose blowing? I hate taking off the mittens to dig out a handkerchief to blow constantly while snow shoeing. All face coverings I have tried fog up my glasses, or have other issues.
For glasses I have no experience and no tips :( All I know my friend uses contact lenses to avoid the fogging issue altogether. For running nose I just swipe it either to my gloves or to my buff. Sounds gross but hey, I swallow that stuff anyway 🤷♀️😃 so i really don't care and just use by buff/neck scarf. For gloves, you can easily order 3 sizes up, it really don't matter if they are bigger that needed when planning to use them as overmitts. If using as the first layer I would order 1 size up.
Nice, ok I now find myself looking on Etsy for beaver gloves😁OMG they are very expensive. All good here in NH. 28°F not much snow.
They are expensive, but hand made things with quality materials are that. But it's also an investment for 10 years.
@@MaiuLunekund my friend said they remind her of the mittens that the guard wore at the gate of Emerald city. In the Wizard of Oz movie. Only his were bright green. I told her I would get them for her for Christmas. She said no.😊
Hei maui. I like to ask you if you Can give me the design to the bigger beavergloves that you use to put the other globes inside. I made a pair for my son who is working whith sladedogs in tana norway. But He need Them bigger. I am also working whith fur but having trouble whit getting the right side for him.
Hi i would like to asked you og you could give a side for men om the beavergloves. Made a pair for my my son but he needs Them bigger.

Did your grandma also make mittens for our US senator Bernie Sanders? Thanks for sharing!
Ooooh, I wish they were my Granny's 😅😍
What? Beaver is warmer than yeti?
Do you have a secret against getting dry skin on the back of the hands?
🌹
You look 🔥
Have you toned up you look great....Must be all the work outs on the sled 😁
Hahaa, the sled ride itself is easy-peasy. But getting 30kg dogs harnessed and in the team, we'll THAT'S a workout 😀
👍👍👍

Hi Dorthe! Unfortunately I do not have the pattern or the instructions for the gloves as I didn't do them.
Hi maui. Thank you for your answer. I hope i Can find out how Big a size i need. Just have keep trying. Thank you. 👍😁
when its very cold it does not snow
LOL, those mittens are bigger than boxing gloves :)
Thank you. Great tips. The US Army is finally coming out with smart cold weather gear after all these years. Too late for me though
Not so cold, only minus 20 degrees Celsius.... you’re part polarbear?
hmmmm the loss of dexterity for keeping your fingers is a good trade off.... the type of cold you experience sleding (daaaa sleding .. mushing really a different league) OMG grannies gloves, inverted sheep skin in a beaver glove.. what does that take you down to -80 ????? those beaver gloves are the bomb!!!!!!!! for get life is better in hiking shoes,, life is better in Huge Over Mittens .. J
Miss I have been fallen in love with you❤️
Nice overview . Dogs are barefoot? I am only asking.
Dogs are "barefoot" yes, their paws are meant for these conditions. If there is a need for extra protection we do use dog booties.
@@MaiuLunekund Now I know.
Any Covid19 way up there?
Yes, a bit. But working outdoors and not going to crowded places (instead being in nature all the time) hasn't brought that here to our kennel. A lot less tourists now as well, though.
I like uh
Oh come on. A woolen inner mitten with an outer weatherproof liner (traditionally leather) will work just fine, and is way less.. uhh... poofy. The mitten you're looking for is called a "chopper".
