    Hey cool video, here's a little explanation I hope it's understandable. Warm greetings from Germany! Since you have inserted an XLR plug into a combination socket, the Apollo recognizes that the connection is on all 3 pins of the XLR and sets the MIC level. If you insert a TRS cable instead of the XLR, it would recognize the three contacts in the TRS. With an XLR it always depends on the MIC level and with a TRS, Line. This is for all interfaces with a combination socket the same.

    Really helpful reminder, thank you Adam! Here's how I set everything up through my Apollo for my mastering chain in Logic Pro. I run everything through my Apollo Twin Quad. On the stereo Mixbus channel, I send the signal out to my mastering hardware (SSL Fusion, with send to the Tegeler Creme compressor, followed by the BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer). All devices are connected via XLR and TRS cables to and from the Apollo audio interface.
    In the Apollo console, remember to link inputs 1 and 2 to create a stereo pair by clicking both inputs, right-clicking, and selecting 'Link.' I place the I/O plugin directly onto my stereo out channel in Logic.
    My current mastering chain on the Logic Pro stereo channel is:
    1. Some type of saturation to warm up the signal (e.g., Softube Tape, or UAD Ampex ATR102)
    2. Routing out to the hardware via the Apple I/O utility plugin (SSL Fusion, Tageler Creme, BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i)
    3. Kclip 3 (Clipper)
    4. Fabfilter Pro L2 (Limiter)
    I then bounce the stereo WAV or MP3 as usual. My mastering chain is always evolving as I experiment with different plugins, so have fun with it! My next step is getting my hardware outboard gear working with Ableton Live since I'm using Live for EDM Dance Electro/Pop

    Hello Adam! Thanks for your video and show how this chorus gear works. I've noticed so much noise or "interferences" from 8:50 min to 16:54 min from your microphone... I had the same problem with my Tube Condenser Microphone and after many time I finally solved. I hope you can do it as well and your videos go to the next level! I'm pretty sure you have too many plugs connected to the same socket or some other source that is giving you that interference. Try another socket or, even, another room. You will see how that noise disappears ☺👌

    I believe xls is a standard for a mic. also for the 48v. ( don't use that I guess ) jack is standard for line. so that is a 48v safety also. Nice Vid!

    You need to select the line input when you use an XLR or TRS jack cable because, quite simply, the signal coming from your hardware is a line-level signal at around +/- 1V and not a mic-level signal bro 😉

    If yu put XLR cables u force it through the Preamp, thats why u can choose only MIC.

    Is there a way to add a headphone amplifier in this chain?? I use my outputs on my Apollo to run to the headphone amp in my booth, is there a way to still connect it or do I need a patch bay?

    Hey how do you use it for your daw for mastering or limiting

    • @AdamBards
      @AdamBards  8 місяців тому +2

      You need to "print" the output into a track. There are videos on YT explaining it for each DAW, I might do one for the Logic as well

    So what you hook the mic up to then?

    • @AdamBards
      @AdamBards  13 днів тому

      Can't in my case, since I only have 2 xlr inputs, unless I disconnect the outboard gear cables

    How do you route the mix to your speakers? I use the four apollo x4 outputs for my two monitor systems?
    I have no idea how to keep my both monitor systems running when all four outputs are used for outboard gear.
    Thanks for short answer. (Great video!!!)
    Cheers from Ibiza.

    • @AdamBards
      @AdamBards  8 місяців тому +1

      Cheers! Apollo x4 has 2 dedicated outputs for monitors, 4 mic/line inputs & 4 line outs... so just use the monitor outputs for your monitors.

    How would I plug mic in if I use xlr

    • @AdamBards
      @AdamBards  9 місяців тому +1

      The mic goes into the MIC/LINE inputs on the Apollo. If you're using both outboard gear and a microphone, then you might need an audio interface with more inputs. Or maybe your outboard gear is a preamp or a compressor? Then you plug the microphone into the outboard gear inputs and the outboard gear outputs into the audio interface inputs.

    Why did u bought the clone? There's alot of plugins (from UAD, Arturia, Overload) that can replace that piece of gear. If i were you I'd invest on monitors.

      He’s in a small room why would he invest in more monitors when the monitors he has is ideal for the room he is in as well as the flat frequency response? Also, plug ins can’t fully replicate hardware it can come close without a doubt but can’t beat the sauce of hatdware.
