Tweed is great. And a gray tweed jacket looks particularly badass when paired with a red v-neck sweater and a Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum. Iconic.
This made my day.
You Dirty boy Harry
As a Canadian going through a typical -25°C winter day, I laughed really hard when you said "brutally cold winter's day" in the intro.
Anyways, really good informative video as usual, Ash. I personally like to wear brushed cotton shirts with my tweed when going for a casual look. Apparently I've picked something fitting on instinct since I'm fairly new on my style journey.
To me, tweed is a 3 season jacket: late fall, winter, and early spring. Basically a cold/cool weather coat. BTW, great scarf and coat. I want those!
Hi, Ash--in the U.S., when dressing up the tweed with a tie, a button-down collar oxford cloth shirt is considered by many to be a must. Paired with grey pants and cordovan shoes, you have the quintessential "Ivy League" look. Very traditional and correct. Cheers!
My uncle used to weave harris tweed many years ago when he was alive. On Scalpay the isle of harris. Had the loom in his shed watched him weave many a tine when i was a wee boy.
I have many tweed jackets, some with matching waistcoats for the business arena. When paired with a formal shirt, tie, and appropriate trousers, they very much fit the bill. A massively versatile garment.
Great content as always, Ash.
My signature style is a tweed suit with a contrasting waistcoat in the same colour as one of the suit checks. Trousers, tie and/or pocket square pick out another check colour. Footwear exactly as you recommend.
This is a perfect analysis of the tweed jacket for me. I often wear mine to the office, but it’s equally at home with jeans or on a day out in the country with an Arran sweater and cords. I particularly liked the viewpoint that tweed can stand in for an office formal occasion. It definitely brings personality where more generic office clothing does not.
Looks like a great jacket, good choice Kevin.
I agree.
Great choice of jacket. I have several tweed jackets and love their versatility and comfort.
Historically, tweed was 'waulked' in urine to help set the dye. It's said that after a shower, The House of Lords had a distinct aroma reflecting this; no longer an issue as different mordants are used these days, thankfully!
Good morning Ash and the assembled Chappage.
Excellent advice as always.
I was out for drinks on Friday evening (hence being 24hrs behind on commenting 😂).
I wore my green Harris Tweed jacket. Paired with a Barbour Tattersall shirt, claret knitted tie, Chino style jeans and mid-brown brouged boots. I was the best dressed man in the group. Many comments about how many pheasants id bagged, wheres my horse etc...
My granddad's advice has always stuck with me about wearing Harris Tweed. He swore by it, and he was a groom for most of his life, working in stableyards.
I am now scouring Vinted for another jacket 😁

It is the choice of kings - enough said!
Hi Ash - lovely video. I wear tweed all the time in my day to day work. I have around a dozen tweed jackets and four or five tweed vests (and around 6 knitwear cardigan vests). Combined with normal dress shirts (with or without a tie), a pair of corduroys, chinos or moleskins the vests and jackets are perfect. I always get complimented on how "dressed up" I am, even though I know I am dressing casually (for a gentleman). I agree with pretty much everything you said. Keep up the great work!
A tweed jacket is the most versatile there is. It works perfectly with my one-step-up-or-down rule. My favorite is the black and white salt and pepper Irish tweed. The subtle beauty of the material enables it to fit into any circumstances. (And to scent aficionados, a few sprays of Quorum or Yatagan are recommended to complete the image!)
I have about a dozen tweed jackets in my collection, Ash, which I wear throughout the fall, winter, and spring, in a variety of colours. With a button-down Oxford cloth shirt and a paisley or striped tie, grey flannel trousers, and chestnut wingtip brogues, they are part of my go-to look for shopping at the local farmer's market, meeting my friends for coffee and croissants at my local patisserie, or browsing at my local bookstore.
Plain brown or grey herringbone Harris Tweed jackets can be paired with just about anything, and those jackets in various shades of green, or mustard brown, featuring fine stripes and flecks of contrasting colour woven into the fabric look fabulous with the right tie and pocket square.
My heritage being a quarter English and half Irish, I feel that tweed is a natural sartorial choice for me and a key component of my wardrobe.
@@johnbunton9177 I have about six tweed jackets two of which are Harris. One I bought new in 1983 and it is still going strong. I wear mine almost daily to shops and meeting friends. Cheers Ron
Hi Ash. I live in the Irish countryside so tweed is a must have for me. I own a lightweight Donegal tweed for Spring and Autumn which I pair with a waistcoat for those chillier evenings. I also own a heavier herringbone Harris tweed for winter which I often wear with a contrasting polo neck jumper for those really cold days. I agree with you regarding the corduroy trousers as a suitable contrast. Tweed for me is a way of keeping snug and warm while still looking smart and stylish. I'm sure the buyer of that lovely jacket will have a great time wearing it with confidence.
Great advice, thanks Ash! And great jacket Kevin. I like wearing a tartan tie with the tweed!
I am a fan of tweed and especially since retiring. I have sported it in all the ways you have mentioned including shooting afield. I usually like tweed with a cotton Oxford shirt V neck sweater or cardigan. Corduroy trousers brogue shoes or boots. Also a dress shirt or tattersall shirt and tie. You can also sport a cravat. Flat caps and fedoras to top it off. Loved the video and suggestions Ash. Cheers Ron
Awesome jacket! I love wearing my one here in Cádiz, as I just don’t see them here 🙂
A tip chaps. If you get a windowpane check, make sure the cuffs are real if you plan to have the sleeves adjusted. Normally a tailor could adjust at the shoulder if he needed to, but this will muck up the check, which should align across the chest and arm.
Looks great Kevin. I usually wear knitted or moleskin waist coats under tweed jackets, or matching tweed waistcoats. I wear my tweeds almost every day for about 5ish months for my work and leisure. To dress it up a little, I wear chinos or depending on the day, nice jeans. Footwear for me depends on the day and job at hand. I almost forgot, button up cardigans and light wait jumpers also work great, lastly I always wear a pocket square.
Great content Ash. I’ve a couple of tweed jackets, but I wouldn’t necessarily agree that wearing a white shirt is a wise choice. If plain I’d go down the light blue, pink or cream options. If a patterned shirt such as checks or stripes, it’s hard not to choose blue… it just goes with everything.
I absolutely love my Harris tweed suit from Peter Christian in the UK and enjoy the versatile options for separate as well as full suit a must have for any Gentleman greetings from the United States of America Ash
Thank you.
Been trying to figure out how to style my harris tweed safari jacket. I'm leaning towards wearing it as a blazer under my barbour.
I have several tweed jackets and coats. One of the most versatile, and stylish types of clothing I own! Only thing my wardrobe lacks is a tweed suit!
That tweed jacket is one of the best I’ve seen. I would go with dark or black Levi jeans, navy dress shirt, dark brown belt and a pair of dark brown Church’s, maybe the Consul.
I love tweed! Best jacket by far. Not seen as so informal in the US, hence more opportunities to wear it. Harder to get in the US, sadly.
i pair my green harris tweed sports coat with part of my brown donegal merino wool suit, trousers and waistcoat.
or brown, burgundy and even navy corduroy trousers, as the jacket has a blue pattern
Please can you do a tier list on where to buy suits in the UK. I've searched high and low on UA-cam to no avail
A shantung tie would go well with tweed because of the texture. I also wear a Merino wool roll neck which sets the overall outfit quite nicely.
Just getting that done now for the morning 😊
I wear tweed with cotton and linen mix shirt light yellow with brown pants with navy tie with brown penny loafers
First: Congratulations Kevin on obtaining a wonderful jacket at a discount.
Second: I like your Walking Coat but I cannot find it on the Gurteen website. Did you purchase it some time ago and it is no longer manufactured?
It is an old model. Purchased from Vinted.
Hello Ash. I'm a male in his mid-late 20s with a similar hairstyle to you. I was wondering if a tweed jacket is suitable for someone of my age. If so, what would be the best way to style it for a young man?
Tweed is utterly ageless sir, as a younger chap, you can wear it with jeans, or simply omit the tie and look as sharp as anyone!
Many thanks.
I wish I had some tweed, it's expensive new and I haven't found the right tweed 2nd hand..
Ebay !
Here is a question for you, Sir!
What suggestion do you have for those who would look stylish and classic when doing garden or carpentry work?
NGA
Norway
For me, it would be a chore jacket all day long: ua-cam.com/video/1C9eTi9LP6M/v-deo.htmlsi=o_W55GPX439B8d5Y
I believe that a tweed jacket should be viewed as a foundational garment in a gentleman's wardrobe. As I look back on my youth I think my first jacket was a tweed.
Oddly, Tweed is hard to find in my area. Any brand recommendations? Looking for a Tweed flat cap and jacket. Thanks
Gurteen, Peter Christian, Brook Taverner
@@TheChapsGuide Yes, Ash, completely agree per Peter Christian. They offer some excellent tweed jackets. I recently bought the "bronze" jacket and love it. As it happily turns out, it's the same tweed design as the flat cap that I bought last year at Robert Bunny on the village square in Grassington (North Yorkshire).
Tweed with leather elbow patches would be cool 😎
corduroy or flannel pants or khakis, chambreay denim or twill shirt
Once you obtain your first tweed jacket I would be very surprised if it stops there , half my jacket / suit wardrobe is tweed . It’s got to a point where the other half is encouraging me NOT to get any more 🙄🙄🙄
Brutally cold?🤣
This guy loves hand me downs and back door cut priced garments ! Not helpful for hard pressed retailers whose profit margins tightly sqeesed with a commentary from an individual who has been institutionalized all his life with no business acumen whatsoever !
Tha consumer is tightly squeezed too, and we deserve the best deal available. Retailers who cannot adapt disappear - it is the rule of the jungle!
Retailers do not need people like you better off wirhout tight or no margins you go out of business turnover is vanity profit is sanity you may have Saville Row taste but l think your philosopy is more suited to Matalan forgive the pun captain !
