I’m glad someone is shining light on this phone. I was sure it was totally forgotten
Someone sure as hell shined a light on that iPhone...
What? @@martinidream100
When this phone came out it felt so futuristic, I still remember this phone it was so revolutionary (like the Royole Flexpai but more interesting)
Nahhh
It was forgotten cause no one cares about it.
The motorized selfie camera is the peak of bezel-less phones for me as I barely take selfies anyway. I have a OnePlus 7 Pro and it can still keep up with current flagships in terms of design. The full screen front really looks more futuristic than some phone with a hole punch.
Yeah the World went backwards, Redmagic 9 Pro/+ is the only worthy phone now
hey, lol, I remember owning the sharp Aquos Crystal for a few months back in around 2014. It was absolutely ahead of it's time!
months?
@@thenonverified1368Sounded like bs to me lol
I never heard first iPhone in 2007. But i found secret known as The LG Prada (LG KE850) was the first smartphone with a capacitive touchscreen made by LG Electronics and designed by Prada was released in January or May 2007. The Prada was announced in December 2006, a month before Apple's iPhone unveiling in January 2007.
No way, I can't believe that apple is lying on me or something
Wrong, it was announced after the iPhone AND Released after the iPhone. So no, you didn’t found secret.
@@LambdaMiscellaneous What do you mean Wrong. You haven't heard about The LG Prada. Go search for LG Prada it's was real is not fake it's true. you brainwashed
@@LambdaMiscellaneous What do you mean Wrong. I search it's was true but it is real is not fake. Go learn for Wikipedia here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_Prada?wprov=sfla1
@@LambdaMiscellaneous the hell you mean. yes it's right, he/she found secret. you didn't know about LG prada and i searching it. it is real was definitely true is not fake. Go search and read then prove yourself. you brainwashed
I love how people call iphone's screen "symmetrical" and bazel-less even though there is a huge damn "notch" or "island" on top of it and at the same time dismissively look at android phones "chin" and hole punch and call it "asymmetrical", "bezels are not even" even though chin's are much thinner and hole punches are much smaller. Kinda ridiculous.
Exactly!!! Lol
“Sir, please stop licking the display units”
No. I will lick until no more lick can no longer lick.
😣😵
Heh, that's a phrase I had to use when I worked retail back in 2017
@CasioMaker can you explain bro I'm lost on what it means
@@Tyyrantt The store I used to work for, had its fair share of problems regarding safety, so every once in a while, you had to fend off people out of their meds or junkies trying to steal display units, demo materials and so on. By the end of my period working there, the manager had to post a security guard just for the specific section I used to work, just in case.
honestly i miss bezels, you could actually grab the front of the phone without accidentslly touching the screen, but now all of the front is just screen
Honestly though, *some* bezel is actually a positive for myself.
When I got my first phone that didn't have top and bottom bezels, I kept accidentally touching it, only on the side that it was smaller at.
Bezzels gets so annoying while playing games
Bro u got the dankpods vibe 😂👏
at first i thought it was a Dankpods video hahaha
My brain immediately started playing Dankpods yelling "BEZEL"
BEZEL ua-cam.com/video/njOx_tJK81o/v-deo.html
@@oscarcanales3830 without the green iPad? My word 😵
he's like dankpods from the alternate universe where he didnt lose his marbles
My dad had this phone for a while before he passed away. I saw this video in recommended and was honestly astonished. I had completely forgotten about that until today.
Bro sounds like Dankpods.
A. i will not forgive you
B. for the flappy bird game my trick is to use the animation scalings in the developer settings oh and also this game is hard asf even with the scaling
Not hype real fr
@@toucanroombas very real fr
You're forgiveness won't matter
The animation scaling just makes the game slower but the jumps are still high (am I right?)
@@techcube7291 yes but since its slower it makes it easier
I still remember being so impressed by the Huawei Mate 10 Pro in 2017. It even smashed the Galaxy S8.
Someday in ~2012 I told friends about how the next step in smartphones would be a full screen front. They laughed. Now we're here.
I didnt think initially I was going to sit through the whole video, but it was really entertaining
Funny how iPhone 3GS' side bezes are smaller than iPhone 12's side bezels.
MKBHD showed this phone back in the day. It was modern looking then, like now. Looks better than any of the new "bezel-less" phones of today (aside of the curved displays which are dying now).
Sharp should make a new one with camera punch hole and bezel-less on all 4 sides. I'll buy that.
Respectfully, you're tweaking. I just looked at the iPhone 3GS' side bezels and they are about the same as the 12's side bezels, maybe larger in fact. It definitely doesn't look better, it looks old and chunky. The reason iPhones don't have bezels as thin as the Sharp Aquos Crystal is because it's very difficult to make the bottom chin smaller, and Apple doesn't want to have a bigger chin, which I respect. Phones with bigger chins (like 99% of Androids do) have no excuse to not have bezels as small as the Sharp Aquos Crystal though. If your device has a bigger chin, you might as well remove the other bezels for a futuristic look, since the design is already non-uniform.
@@BltchErica Yeah, whatever. 3GS side bezels still look thinner.
fun fact! sharp has Crystal 3 wich has teardrop front cam
cap
Ahhhh... my old phone. A phone that can spark conversations with curious people because of its peculiar shape.
But because of its shape, it was really hard to find a case and screen protector for it.
26:00 this is called "emoper" short for "emotional helper" it is likephone-specific voice assitant thing and acutally slows the phone down considerably because it's always runnig.
and the percentae is "emotion" so if you thrown the phone or be rough with the device, the percetange will go down.
This thing also talks to you when you wake up like Google does now.
I thought it was a dating app
This was my baby back in the day. Absolutely love it.
Great video man subbed!!
Such a trip down memory lane man. Especially the GalaxyS8 and those iphone 8 leaks.
please, companies, i beg you, stop trying to get rid of bezels. give me my holdable phones and square screens back. let my monitor screens survive a small bump on the side without shattering. PLEASE
Buy sony then😂😂
@@Zenttt0098 Sony is soo shit. Like they pretend to be all unique and unwavering but goddamn they are so far behind, can't compete, and they still sell at a premium.
I love this phone specifically because it mirrors a lot of the Zune HD design language with the hardware.
The Aquos Crystal is so beautiful but holy crap holding it will absolutely trigger so much stuff on the sides of the screen ahaha
It was a great one and a conversation starter back in the day
Sharp has always been known for their screens, and their TVs were really good back in the day. I wish that Sharp lead the US Android market back then, imagine a flagship version of this.
The reason why that phone has a built in TV app is because Japanese phones (with bezels) usually have a proper antenna you can extend out. More modern phones dont have an extendable antenna but they still have the app for IP TV viewing.
By the way, i swear i watched one of your channels years ago, you sound and look so familiar lol
It was likely from another channel ;)
@@frokfrdkcan you do a video for mi mix phones of xioami
When you were talking about the iPhone X, I was shaking my head at because I always think of the S8 when the iPhone X is mentioned, I always mentally compare the two because I was at collage at the time (adult collage lol) and everyone was an iPhone user and only one of them got the iPhone X, I just thought side by side the X had nothing on the S8 looks wise when you power them on next too eachother.
Still to this day I remember the S8 when it was announced, it was the first time I'd had that "wow I really want to go out and buy one of these" from an advertisement, just the look of the S8 is still gorgeous, I still have my S8+ in a draw, beautiful phone
Honestly its impressive how many features and customisation they have baked into this.
One of my fav phones to use is the LG Wing, not because of the rotating gimmic, but the uninterrupted screen. Plus its a fun party trick
That video was fun to watch!
I am begging you to start taking more care of these phones
Beg the previous owners not me lol
I actually owned this phone when I was in middle school and it was the coolest thing ever. I got it on sale at a boost store for like $200. A lot of software didn't understand the camera, but overall it was super futuristic for the time and very ahead of its time.
squeeze sensors are amazing
i love the one on my pixel 4, combined with the amazing haptic feedback
Perfect combo
A. I will not forgive you /j
B. Flappy Bird mini game in android 5 is genuinely hard
C. Wish I knew Japanese to make subtitles noting what's on screen
D. Cool phone
the vibe i got from this channel is dankpods but way calmer lol
9:58 YOOO the og Xperia Z was the shit lol i owned one of those too
AQUOS Crystal is old so I didn't care about it, but after watching your review I thought that phone is very good. At auctions in Japan, it sells for around 800 to 2,000 yen, so I'm thinking of getting it.
I remember wanting this so bad! Ended up with a 5s back in 2015
I had this phone (sharp aquus)in 2015 love it. Just had overheating issues during heavy video play.
You actually do a really good job of making these interesting even though you only show your hands
The galaxy s8 was my favorite smart phone. Perfect size, button placement, even fingerprint reader location
My brother in law had one back in the day. It qas so cool to see. I got one in 2017 and used it for a year and it was still cool. Just a bit slow.
I remember saving up to buy the aquos when it first came out I was obsessed when I seen it.
the thumbnail could literally NOT be more accurate 💯🔥
Hey frok, you should also check out the motorized cameras on the Oppo N1, N1 mini and N3 from 2013, they make the Find X look conservative in comparison.
And yes, I do remember this phone because I lusted after one (of course), but since it's a Sharp never came out where I live and I wasn't about to go through the whole rigmarole of paying extra and getting it working on my country's networks, especially since it was just a mid-range phone at the time as well.
I loved this design so much back in the day, but I could only find it carrier-locked in the US...So I imported its Japan-only successor, the Aquos Zeta SH-01G and it was amazing, both as a phone and a conversation starter! 😂 To this day, i still remember the lady that helped me activate it on AT&T commenting that Asia gets all the cool phones lol
I still have it in its original box in mint condition, and still a looker to this day!
I had the original one with Boost mobile. It was like $100 or $150 new. I loved it!
The oppo reno 10x zoom is really ahead of it's time
Also the vivo nex 3
I had them both
I really love the extrem curvature screen set up of vivo nex 3
2:40 IM SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE REMEMBERED THAT PHONE
"Yeah, I licked the screen."
"I'm not lying nor tryna deny it."
This phone looks cooler than actual modern phones we've started from the light ngl
i remember this vividly when it was a massive thing, i myself was at the time 9 years old
Interesting to see that the Pixel 2 squeeze funciton (active edge) was not really a new thing, I think it was really useful.
I HAD ONE OF THESE PHONE. I LOVED IT.
Very nice overveiw on this phone and rly nice video. Also I been wondering what song you used in the background 21:57 - 23:52. It sounds neat. I just wanted to know
I don't remember - HOME
i love this phone, wish i could find one that i could afford
Time flies swiftly
WILD thumbnail.
I remember when this thing was announced. I thought it looked so cool, but I went with the LG G3 at the time. Also very narrow bezels. Man that was a nice phone. I miss LG
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one obsessed with this phone at the time, I would have sold a kidney for that phone.
Everything ages with time.
Sony Xperia ZL from 2013 also focused on screen to body ratio & had the front camera at the bottom
Interesting note about the squeeze sensor, for some reason my S21 has a grip sensor in the *#0*# menu an its fairly accurate with a case on. Never saw anything use it, but it has it, along with the previous S models. Will see if it stayed for the 24U when I get one.
The zune HD came out way before this. Not a phone, but same idea. It still has a tiny bit of bezel though.
I had a Zune HD. Seeing this phone kept reminding me of it. I wanted to get this phone and then custom theme it to look like the Zune and call it Zune HD2.
I wanted that Sharp phone so bad when it came out. I drooled over it for months dreaming of the day it was common to have no bezels. But it was definitely out of my price range at the time.
I have the original aquos crystal, as well as the original Xiaomi mi mix 24 carat gold edition, and in my opinion, the first properly bezel-less mainstream phone... The vivo nex S. Done a transparent back mod on mine too
I had a Aquos phone lol. Still have it actually. The frame is just loose now and splits apart like a sandwich at the top of you slip your nail between it
Wayback I always dreamed of having a chance to have sharp crystal on my hand
Wow I actually used this phone back then in 2018. Got it for very cheap like 45 usd for bundle with other phone SH-02H and 303SH still carrier locked. You should try to get earlier sharp phone model like 203SH and 302SH too, I think both of them look stunning for a phones that came in 2012/2013.
In 2019/20
It still looks quite impressive in 2024! With a modern theme, it would be hard to place it chronologically without knowing.
3:00 as someone who owns 5 Galaxy S8 im dissapointed in you only having a cracked one ;w;
This was the first Android phone I had. Still looks great today.
But if you manage to get your fingernail under any corner the screen it comes off real easy.
The thumbnail is crazy
I wanted to say the same thing💀💀💀
as far as i remember rounded screen matrixes or like ips/amoled (not sure on the specifics but basically smartphone screens) were invented in 2017, thats why before then noone did it
Man, I remember when this phone was announced. It looked so WILD.
7:55 I use Pixel 4, and god damn this squeeze sensor is so useful. I binded it to flashlight and it is so much more easier and comfortable just to squeeze the phone than to go to Action Center and enable it
I was doing the same with HTC U11, that was a dope phone
I own a Sharp Aquos Xx (and yes its called Xx) that also uses the bezel less design but saddly it has no battery in it so im not sure if it even powers on.
for the hidden flappy bird game, the speed ties into the animation speed of the phone, (or was it transition or window?) if you set it to a very slow speed, you can make the game slower and not have a sharp (heh) pull on the flappy bird
Where can I download that sound effect to use as a text tone?
when u said 'front'... i thought how new phones focus more on the backs since their fronts all look the same lol
I recommend taking a look at the new phones from ZTE (Nubia Z60 Ultra and RedMagic 9 Pro). These phones have a complete full screen front without bezels and no front camera visible.
I used to want this phone so bad when it came out
The thumbnail LOL: are you serious the phone is not ice cream lol
Not going to lie, most of the iPhone's premium look comes from the symmetrical design they had going on with their screen
i can imagine this whole video with the dankpods aussie voice lol
thumbnail made me question everything for a second
Absolutely appreciate the DankPods reference, one of my favorite YT Channels.
Omg I completely forgot this phone ever existed. Even today, you'd be hard pressed to find a modern flasgship with a smaller bezel than thism it's nearly non existent
I had this phone for a while back in 2014. Would've kept using it for longer if it wasn't for the lack of support from Sharp. Shame, raelly loving the bezel less design. It's beautiful
it kinda looks like an upside down cut Xperia lmao
still pretty cool didnt know sharp made phones outside being a supplier
This kinda reminds me of the motorola flat tire (moto 360 smartwatch) with how it does the bezeless look. Also, that "health app" is actually a kind of mobile assist app.
Oh... And, uh... I forgive you.
I want the Lumia Phones back. They were really good looking.
I miss my Lumia 1520 and 1050
omg teardown credits ost
Even before that Sharp did already made few kinda-small bezel phones, like the Sharp 302SH and 303SH from 2013
You're mentioning the Galaxy S8 as one of the starters many times while forgetting that the LG G6 was actually the first phone that debuted the non-16:9 aspect ratio that everyone uses nowadays! It got released before the S8 did and it even came with rounded bezels too.
I have an edge display phone which is annoying sometimes because of ghost touching / miss touching.
2:51 For us brokies, closest we get to S8 is Redmi Note 5 Plus lmao
But it looks soo charismatic and elegant, I prefer that kinda bezel than a hole or a notch.
Xperia XZ3, Pixel 3, Pixel 2 XL, ROG Phone 6?
@@azkryvll Ah yes, that's cool too. But not for us brokies haha
isnt it lg g6 that came out way before s8?
the truly first that gives you the taller aspect ratio?
Hahaha as I'm watching this on the Nubia Red Magic Pro 9 which has the under display front camera tech or whatever it's called, I don't do or use front camera enough to really say it's good or bad, in my opinion it looks almost like the same quality as my LG V20 that I just switched from so it's good enough I guess but the full screen display is amazing on this phone, I usually keep the brightness on 30% and I can game for 12 hours while getting at least 48 hours out of a full charge, and it only taking about 38-40 minutes to charge is amazing as well
こんな古いスマホが紹介されることに驚きが隠せない
I had this phone when I was around 18 that phone was a tank I dropped it several times on concrete it always survived, the screen was amazing.
25:41 Heritage Japanese speaker here to translate.
"My name is Emoko. Please give me a chance from now on."
"Hey. Can you hear me? (?) I will be your Emopa-"
(the long thing the girl said afterward turned my brain into mush)
The application emopaa seems to be some sort of exercise app, the percentage said it was Emopaa's emotions.
I'm thinking emopaa means emotional partner?
8:15 Sharp has _just_ started selling phones outside the US again, theyre starting out in Indonesia and Taiwan
