    @guitarguts666 This is live, no protools. If it were the trouble of notes I fucked up would have been repaired lol. The harmonies are on the BT. It's just the head and delay with a gain boost

    I remember when Psychic Transfusion came out, and I love it immensely, though I remember a good amount of people hating on it because it wasn't AJ's sound we knew from that self-titled album with Angel of Darkness. I love the futuristic vibe it gave, and it hits just as hard as a full LP would, if not harder. And let me not forget the Quick Licks days haha, thank you for all the inspiration, AJ, cheers!

    The secret to Andy James' abilities lies in his immaculate legato technique. He has hammer-ons and pull-offs down to a science and his picking hand can move in and out ov those phrasings without missing a beat. If you watch his right hand, he's really not having to do much work there because he can rely on his legato fretting abilities to do most ov the work. His economy picking is also really well developed to the point where he can use it when he needs to, but, doesn't rely on it completely.

      @ We always had the artist send their backing tracks a few days in advance, and we loaded them into ProTools and fed a stereo mix back out to floor monitors. In the studio, we had all the major amps and cabinets and the artist would tell us what they preferred. In this case Andy wanted to try out the Mesa boogie. We used one Sennheiser e 906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone which was sent into an API preamplifier, then directly to ProTools. All the guitar performances were recorded live. (In Andy‘s case he would usually nail the performances in one take).Then we would mix it in sync with the video tracks. We used two computers for that process, one computer for the ProTools mix, and one computer for avid media composer, which were both synchronized for the mixing and editing process.

    • @CairoProgressiveRock
      @CairoProgressiveRock 21 день тому

      @@__jcoby for the purity of great tone and being able to crank the input gain level to maximum a good microphone preamp is always the best choice. Some mixing boards have great microphone preamps. In this particular case, we went directly to the API then straight to ProTools.

    Dexterous and creative. The main riff wasn't very catchy but I can tell he likes to work with a lot of sustain and vibrato, so that's cool. I like his style. Trust me Andy James is REALLY good :) But how I think they record those EMG Tv videos is that the artist probably plays the song 4 to 5 times, and they then select the best parts of each takes. But seriously don't be surprised about Andy's playing, he really is among the best now, in my opinion at least :) Cheers.

      Sounds like a muted rake ending with a struck note. You pretty much got it on your own. How to do it? Regular rake except dont fret the notes on the raked strings and use your right palm to control the tonality and clarity of the note. I do it for effect when I solo and its almost second nature. Learning how to sweep will make this easier to blend in your playing

    Actually he makes a small mistake at 2:17 and he hits the wrong note at 2:27 before coolly sliding up to the right note to fix it. At 4:06 he does make a small mistake, but opposite of the way you describe. He is flat rather than sharp on that note. By the way, NONE of this is a criticism of his playing. He did this all in one take - that's amazing! I couldn't play the first minute with 50 mistakes. He's the best guitarist I think I've ever seen.

    • @austinthebeast33
      @austinthebeast33 9 років тому +3

      Shannon Magann Crank your gain to about 4-6 and out in front get an overdrive to tighten up the low end and have a gain boost. I prefer the Maxon od 808, but andy uses the ts 808 or ts 9 by ibanez. Also look for a boss or analog delay. He also is using EMG pickups, I think he wanted to go for a more organic sound so he didn't use the 81 and 85. It sounds more like a 55 and 66. You can also notice, he turned his presence down for a deeper sound, and the treble is probably around 6-9, bass response on the head is probably around 6. He also has a very mid heavy tone so this means his mid range could be around 6-7, but since he is using the tube screamer it is also tightening up the upper mid range frequencies so he could have it turned down a little at about 5. He also is using a cab loaded with v30 celestions. I hop this helped you out. BTW, an overdrive can create noise at times so get a noise gate. You can't really cheap out to get great tone you know.
