@guitarguts666 This is live, no protools. If it were the trouble of notes I fucked up would have been repaired lol. The harmonies are on the BT. It's just the head and delay with a gain boost
I remember when Psychic Transfusion came out, and I love it immensely, though I remember a good amount of people hating on it because it wasn't AJ's sound we knew from that self-titled album with Angel of Darkness. I love the futuristic vibe it gave, and it hits just as hard as a full LP would, if not harder. And let me not forget the Quick Licks days haha, thank you for all the inspiration, AJ, cheers!
Love how Andy occasionally spices things up with a little bit of Phrygian Dominant :)
Lol k
Andy James you ain't gotta prove anything, we know its all Live, some people are just ignorant, wonderful showcasing btw (: getting EMGs cause of you and that tone! cheers
Sorry for the re-upload, we needed to add some intro graphics for co-sponsors!
The secret to Andy James' abilities lies in his immaculate legato technique. He has hammer-ons and pull-offs down to a science and his picking hand can move in and out ov those phrasings without missing a beat. If you watch his right hand, he's really not having to do much work there because he can rely on his legato fretting abilities to do most ov the work. His economy picking is also really well developed to the point where he can use it when he needs to, but, doesn't rely on it completely.
i swear if he play any longer, fire will start coming out from the fretboard...my god..simply amazing....
His awesome phrasing is why I keep coming back and checking out his stuff.
On behalf of the EMGtv production team, we shot this live with seven cameras; in fact, it was one take. Andy is that good! Period.
Did he even warm up before recording?:)
A little while we were dialing in the sound and backing tracks. and always got it on the first take. He’s that good!
@@VirtualLiveShow Hey man again! Can you help me please?:) I want to ask how did you capture andy’s sound? Did you mic the box and backing track was added in production after ? Thanks so much for response
@ We always had the artist send their backing tracks a few days in advance, and we loaded them into ProTools and fed a stereo mix back out to floor monitors. In the studio, we had all the major amps and cabinets and the artist would tell us what they preferred. In this case Andy wanted to try out the Mesa boogie. We used one Sennheiser e 906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone which was sent into an API preamplifier, then directly to ProTools. All the guitar performances were recorded live. (In Andy‘s case he would usually nail the performances in one take). Then we would mix it in sync with the video tracks. We used two computers for that process, one computer for the ProTools mix, and one computer for avid media composer, which were both synchronized for the mixing and editing process.
@@__jcoby for the purity of great tone and being able to crank the input gain level to maximum a good microphone preamp is always the best choice. Some mixing boards have great microphone preamps. In this particular case, we went directly to the API then straight to ProTools.

Hey man, I hope you have a great day. Thanks for posting!!
he's quickly evolving into my favorite guitarist..rock on Andy!!
Andy James never ceases to amaze me with melodies. Great stuff!
He owns the EMG stage.
The awesome fact about Andy James is that his live acts are slightly different to his studio records.. he just gets while playing new parts into it without problems, and this ability ladys and gentlemans makes him to one of the best
Probably one of the most musically interesting shredding guitarists at the moment. He progressed a lot during the few years I've been tracking his progress.
When it comes to Andy James, you can re-upload it 100x, I think we're fine with that :)
I personally think Andy James is my favorite guitarist in the world and when i feel i can't play a certain lick he inspires me with his playing, i look up to play one day at his level the goal may be set too high but i keep at it jajaja.
Hows your playing now?
This guy has some narural talent to work superbly with scales.
Absolutely Amazing. Some of the most talented instrumental I've ever heard!!!
Nice, you got a reply from Andy himself. And if you watched any of his other videos you wouldn't be questioning his playing. He does this playing in his sleep.
I don't mind listening to this great piece of music again :)
Very Nice Playing!
i love the way he is using the mini rectifier and getting that tone from it!!! ha ha good stuff andy!
He enjoyed playing and I enjoyed listening
the whole playing is mind blowing, EMG great work!
This guitar is so beautiful. The song is amazing. I loved! I turned his fan.
Congratulations!
i was lucky enough to see him at the music live event in birmingham (i think it's called that) in the lick library part, i was stod about 2 feet from him and he played everything clean! didn't make one mistake. i'd say that yeh you're probably right but for people like andy and tosin who can play their stuff pretty much flawlessly without really trying.
at 4:06 we are talking about the same thing :P
and He IS a bloody AWSOME guitarist! :D
i never wanted to criticise him :P
it is just an excuse because there are very few ppl who can play this like Andy :P
Total Icon and full Respect to the great musician!
he improvised alot on this 1
Speechless......... monster in the house
awesome guy 3:05 - 3:45 absolutely blew my mind.
Awesome song! Upload bonus!
he played at palm expo last week with backing tracks......and i kept a very critical eye on him....this guy missed one note ...thats it in the entire performance ...and that to a rhythm section not leads.....he is awesome
80's guitar rocks!
I know the whole thing is epic but there's something about the chorus melody that's real good.
Awesome video
Love the amp
Pretty Good. Andy is Amazing
That's really sick and overall great playing.
When asked what scale he's using, Andy only says "The one that's in the right key". He doesn't analyse what he's doing, he just does it.
when he lifted his picking hand at 2:07, i expected a cool tapping lick...my prediction was wrong...it was a godly tapping lick
you really should! i have a few of the lick library DVDs he has done and they are excellent! well worth the money. look into a DVD from guitar messenger called Scar Guitar. that's probably the next best thing i've bought regarding tuitional DVD's
I just wonder how fast he plays when he's just practicing because he plays at that speed without anything close to a mistake. he must be able to play some serious shit
what a great player
His style is damn impressive, i love this shit!
andy best job emg pickups....
This vid is amazing
definitely dont mind listening again to this one :B \m/
I get your uploads on email, and I don't mind re-uploads! Only reminds me to watch this awesomeness again:)
The man's a ninja.
Agreed if I'm not mistaken andy is one whom developed over time judging from his interview I suppose
Actually it pretty obviously was at 4:06, but that doesn't take anything away from his playing. He just might be the best guitarist alive in my opinion.
It must be a pain in the but to remember these songs.
Andy i love you !!!!!
Gear used: Ltd AJ-1 w/ EMG 57/66 pickups, Mesa Boogie Flux Drive (pedal), Boss NS-2, MXR Carbon Copy Delay, Mesa Boogie Mini Rectifier and two Mesa 1x12 Mini Recto Cabs.
i've indentified aeolian scale and the diminished scale too
There are maybe a few pentatonic phrases here but he mainly uses the natural minor scale.
Omg I think I gave birth. Great song, Andy.
This song is sick!!!
3.05 - 3.19 = just beautiful!
He must be deciding through different amps. Awsome song and gear!
This guy is absolutely amazing! That said, I wish he wrote more interesting music.
Killed track!
Dexterous and creative. The main riff wasn't very catchy but I can tell he likes to work with a lot of sustain and vibrato, so that's cool. I like his style. He sounds a lot like All Shall Perish though and I've heard enough bands with that speed shred metal approach for lifetime. Anyway, great musician.
He sounds nothing like All Shall Perish. Im not sure what you are hearing, but All Shall Perish has always sounded like Vehemence with bad breakdowns. AJ sounds nothing like the third rate deathcore of All Shall Perish.
and it's totally badass!
good, reminded me of satch. nice video.
Andy are lessons via skype available with you? For sure you'll get some time for this Man...
hes amazing
between the tiny head, cab, and relatively smaller guitars, it looks almost like Andy is just GIANT XD haha
Anyone knows when he plans on putting out a new album? In need of a fix of new Andy James tunes
Trust me Andy James is REALLY good :) But how I think they record those EMG Tv videos is that the artist probably plays the song 4 to 5 times, and they then select the best parts of each takes. But seriously don't be surprised about Andy's playing, he really is among the best now, in my opinion at least :) Cheers.
nice pickups
This song reminds me a lot on John Petrucci's playing style on his solo album Suspended Animation. Nevertheless, excellent playing!! Keep up the good work!!
i think at their skill level, there is no "best" guitarist, they are both supermegaawesome
Composition : Tosin > Andy
Technique & Mastery of instrument : Andy > Tosin
can someone please tell me how he does that sound at 2:00 where it looks like he's raking but it sounds like a warped pick scrape or something. how do you do it? and what is it called?
+Jeremy Schecter I heard it. I really believe its just a matter of when you shred like that, with all those effects, that's just the type of shit that happens. Haha, but I am by no means the expert!
+Jeremy Schecter I'm almost sure he was muting all the strings except one he wanted to play and just strum.
Sounds like a muted rake ending with a struck note. You pretty much got it on your own. How to do it? Regular rake except dont fret the notes on the raked strings and use your right palm to control the tonality and clarity of the note. I do it for effect when I solo and its almost second nature. Learning how to sweep will make this easier to blend in your playing
Achilles A. his right foot is on the stool thd whole time, and he also didnt move his left foot
It's such a great song that it HAD to be re-uploaded. In a vast sea of musicians, he is a fucking Great White!!
Mindblown, this fucking rocks!
How could you possibly have fucked up? I've played this like 30 times since yesterday and couldn't even hear a sour note. :c You're a beast man.
Actually he makes a small mistake at 2:17 and he hits the wrong note at 2:27 before coolly sliding up to the right note to fix it. At 4:06 he does make a small mistake, but opposite of the way you describe. He is flat rather than sharp on that note. By the way, NONE of this is a criticism of his playing. He did this all in one take - that's amazing! I couldn't play the first minute with 50 mistakes. He's the best guitarist I think I've ever seen.
how would you describe the pup set in your axe?... my frame of reference would be...JB,SH6, duncan 59, gibson 57, 81,85,89,60,SA, 500T/496R.... I run my EMGs at 18v too....
Active? O.o As in.. EMG Active pickups?
Means that the pickups have an external power source to power them and produce less noise and hum compared to passive pickups.
amazing
The gift comes for God.
/watch?v=0zV-82UmLXA this is a video of him playing this song live at NAMM. I believe he's using the same pick ups in both videos.
oh nice !! I would be so happy to see him at a clinic :) And yeah I agree, Andy probably did that in 1 take :) Actually, I think im going to buy his instructional DVD now :)
a genie once asked *genie* u can have one wish *me* i wish to play like andy james *genie* i cant do that *me* why not u said i can have one wish *genie* im not god you know
killer!
What did Mr. James think of the new pickup combo?
That's just mindblowing :)
Never though about that possibility, you're right it fits with Megaman X series style OST (y)
you guys should get Chris Letchford on here, now that he uses EMGs, after Scale the Summits new album comes out
@EMGpickupsTV, what pickups does he use on his bridge and neck positions ?
Right proper hero
heard him play this live at bloodstock 3 days ago at the jagermeister tent
inspired me to try taking soloing to the next level, also i said that his music was like guitar porn, he told me i need to get out more
I still think the next G3 should have Andy James in it!
I love your shoes :D
aditya dwi hartanto was a fugitv, jakarta indonesia has been moneying from brunei darrusalam ,malaysia and japanesse and them try to planning amurderred looks like an accident...please help us
Anyone know how i can eq my triple rectifier to have similar sound to andys?
Shannon Magann Crank your gain to about 4-6 and out in front get an overdrive to tighten up the low end and have a gain boost. I prefer the Maxon od 808, but andy uses the ts 808 or ts 9 by ibanez. Also look for a boss or analog delay. He also is using EMG pickups, I think he wanted to go for a more organic sound so he didn't use the 81 and 85. It sounds more like a 55 and 66. You can also notice, he turned his presence down for a deeper sound, and the treble is probably around 6-9, bass response on the head is probably around 6. He also has a very mid heavy tone so this means his mid range could be around 6-7, but since he is using the tube screamer it is also tightening up the upper mid range frequencies so he could have it turned down a little at about 5. He also is using a cab loaded with v30 celestions. I hop this helped you out. BTW, an overdrive can create noise at times so get a noise gate. You can't really cheap out to get great tone you know.
If I offer my mother and various of my relatives does it include the skills as well?
What we need is Andy James, Jeff Loomis, and Tosin Abasi do to a album together.
