I am researching the Latham family from Surry~Rowan~Davie Counties. I believe our family came to NC from Cecil county Maryland. Thank you, I am glad I have found your channel!
I am a McCurry. My sixth great grandfather, Malcolm McCoury, migrated to New Jersey in 1761 from the Isle of Islay, Scotland. Later, he migrated down “the big road” of Virginia to Yancey County where they still are.
I live in Alexander county. My ancestors come here from Wilkes county. They started several of the Baptist churches here. Bumgarner,Brown,Church,Orren,Watts,Looper and Jolly are some of my family names.
Some reason I can't find much about my last name surname Binkley my granny is Elaina Shipes she from Nashville but I can not get much on our family history like the government or someone covering up the real history of it

Lincoln/Burke County modern Catawba County St. John's Lutheran german families settled prior to the Revolution. My 5th Great Grandfather Lang grant was requested in 1778 during his service in the Revolution.
Does the Catawba run through Bryson city, swain or Macon county? My family has Harris and Higdon.. unfortunately when my grandfather and his siblings grew up there was no work and only one of the 6 sibs stayed the rest came to Michigan.

I would like to know more about the Russell Jones guy. I have 3 lines of Jones. One of my (3 rd) great grandfathers was a william jones who lived near saltville in the early 1800's. His son Peter Morrell Jones ( born in 1829) he married a Elizabeth Morley Clark ( born in 1840 in abingdon,va). They got married in 1860's. By then they lived in fairview community just east of sulphur springs community in Washington county, TN. This (2nd) Great Grandpa Peter M Jones operated a sawmill on their property. My mom's father was Joseph Lester Jones ( born in 1917) qho married Mary Blanche Loudy. Thet live just 1 miles west of the Fairview Methodist Church. Grandpa leater Jones kept the burial plot books for the fairview cemetery. His family the (woods and droaks) attended that old quaker church that srill is standing on the fairview cemetery grounds. My grandoa Lester jones mother was Reffie zorepath Droak and her mother was a Woods who married John Droak.
As I'm sure you're aware of, the surname Jones can easily compare to Smith, Johnson, etc. They can be frustrating to research. However, I not impossible by any means. My wife has been searching my ancestry for years. She used 2 libraries, Wilkes and Caldwell and I have seen her with the books you held up. According to what she found my 7th paternal great grandfather came from Aberdeenshire around 1699 or 1700. My 5th maternal great grandfather was from Midlothian, Scotland and he was here in time to fight in the Revolution. There is much information through the years, some pleasant and some appalling. My grandfather was 1st cousin to Doc Watson for instance. All of it is interesting and I love to sit and talk with other people about my heritage and theirs.
Great information, Carol. You didn't mention the Hicks/Hix family name. My ancestor, David Hicks, was one of the first settlers on the Watauga River in North Carolina. He was the first settler to apply for a land grant. He applied for a land grant of 300 acres on part of Watauga River where he had settled in 1777, and applied on 2 January 1779. He was the first settler of Valle Crucis, Watauga County, North Carolina. Some of his descendants still live on portions of the original land grant. Love New River Notes website. One of my best friends Terry Fleming from hawkins county,tn. His mother Nel Fleming was a Holbrook from coeburn, va area. They also have Buchanan blood lines.

My Smith line goes way back to the ma bay colony in the early 1600's. Lt John Rock Smith is one of my (9 th) great grandfathers. His daughter Mary Rock Smith married my (8 th) great grandfather Samuel Denton. They lived in Hempstead on long Island,ny in the mud to late 1600's.
I also have Sharp family in my direct line from Shenandoah Valley. One of their daughters married into my King family lines that settled in piney fkats,flats, by the 1780's.
My Mulkey blood lines goes way back to eastern nc in the early 1700's. One of their daughters Lurannah Mulkey married Charles Duncan and they settled in Boones creek,tn in the early 1770's. Some of my mulkeys from eastern nc married into the Ellis family. Borh family's go way back to state of Maryland and prince Williams in northern Virginia in the late 1600's.
In 1777 colonel Glanville lead a wagon train from strausburg/toms brook area in Shenandoah Valley headed west to receive land grants in northeast Tennessee which was still north carolina until 1790's. In that wagon train my Denton family traveled along with hoggs,cox, plumleys and weaver families.

And in catawba you have multiple germans families that are buried in 1700s Cabarrus lincoln but was under different county back then
Depending on the date of burial, Lincoln County formed in 1779, Tryon 1768, Rowan 1753, Anson 1750.

According to our research, the Catawba River rises near Asheville, NC and flows over two hundred miles into South Carolina.

I also have hix/hicks direct blood lines going back into colonial Virginia in the 1600's into very early 1700's.

I have Schell family bloodlines mixed with Conrad's and bott/ plott from western.nc.
I also have Littlejohn blood lines from Murphy, nc in the 1750's.
