    Sorry I was taught to keep my octopus in the triangle on my chest ...

      It is fine to put it on your chest...do what you were taught. It just needs to be accessible, and these BCDs have a handy octopus pocket to hold them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting the octopus in its proper pocket meant to hold it.

    To add some challenge this should be done in neutral buoyancy

      Sure. That would be great for more advanced students...I agree. Kristen was just an open water student.

    Why use Nitrox shallower than 30ft?

    • @GabrielleGabrielli
      @GabrielleGabrielli  7 років тому

      It's not Nitrox...it's air. You can use air in a Nitrox cylinder.

      You can use Nitrox 21 in a Nitrox labeled tank. If a tank is filled from a non Nitrox compliant source it invalidates its Nitrox certification of the tank, and cannot be used for Nitrox (Enriched air) until it has been cleaned. In which case the the Nitrox markings must be removed.
      A student may not use a tank labeled for enriched air, unless they have received additional training. This training can occur concurrently with open water certification.
      I am a military certified diver, PADI Staff Instructor, Rebreather Instructor, together with other instructor certifications.

      Your information is incorrect. Check your sources. Again, this student is breathing air, 20.9% oxygen, which in no way invalidates use of a Nitrox labeled cylinder. I, too, have many advanced certifications including instructor trainer plus three instructor certifications.

      What I said was if the tank is filled from a non Nitrox compliant source it invalidates the Nitrox clean certification of the tank. You can fill a tank to Nitrox 21 from a Nitrox compliant source without invalidating it's certification. However if it is filled from a non compliant source it must be re-cleaned and certified by a person authorized to do so, to be Nitrox compliant (yes I've had to do that)
      I am also TDI gas blender instructor.

      It all depends on how the Nitrox is made. Some dive shops use partial pressure blending which adds an amount of 100% oxygen and tops up the tank with regular air to obtain the desired blend.
      This requires a tank that is oxygen clean. Other forms of Nitrox (reverse osmosis and constant blend) usually do not require an oxygen clean cylinder.

      It teaches problem solving and decision making, and it helps people learn to stay cool and calm during stressful situations.

    Don’t like the octopus on her backside

      There is no octopus on her backside. She put it in the BCD octopus pocket, exactly where it was supposed to go.
