I have lived for one year in Moscow myself and have always been desperately looking for the underground scene while the only thing that I actually came across was Powerhouse. I was always wondering 'How can such a giant eastern city not have a scene like Warsaw, Prague or Berlin'? Thanks to you guys that I now know why. It was only until recently when I returned that I discovered more amazing places with absolutely amazing atmosphere. No stupid security, just fun and friendship all the way.
I can understand a few points and agree with them. BUT... Moscow Underground Ballentines True Music... the title says it all. What is underground? Stop calling something underground if the content is sponsored. It's not underground if you have to pay entrance to get inside a venue, it's not underground if you pay a fee for a DJ etc.... I was in Rabitza, Krugozor and all those nice locations and the parties were really dope... and again, they also demand money at the entrance, they also sell drinks etc... it's normal, it's business, but it's not "underground". There are some very talented DJs and producers from Moscow who have not been mentioned here, who have shaped the scene much earlier and are still there, but are not a part of the Arma circle. What I have noticed more and more in recent times, and in many cities, not just in Moscow ... Each promoter tries to be even more underground than the other and so forced to be even cooler and not commercial... but at the end of the day he has to pay his rent and the bread. He loves electronic music as well as the other. Instead of people (promoters) working together, they work against each other. You book an international DJs and you want that the artist plays exclusively just for you. Is that underground? Хорошего дня!
Dude, yes! Undeground is just another label now. Real underground shit is bubbling beyond reach of the mainstream media. Small experemntal, punk and noise gigs at strange local venues, sometimes far from the city ceneter. Pffft, Powerhouse and Underground. It is a sponsored project of a wiskey brand. They are kind of independent now, droped the brand's name, but no way it's underground.
hey there, sorry but I have to disagree on a few points. but, I was thinking like you in the early 90's, its part of growing up I guess, immature, with less experience and a narrow mind. I have since grown up in and around and seen the music and dance scene since I am 13, right from its early beginnings (80's) so you can trust my judgement on your comment. its very important to raise awareness of issues and of course you can never cover everyone from the scene, its hard to track down the ones who are so deep end stuck in the underground (mentality) anyway. In my humble opinion, Underground has no rules that depend on prices or who is famous and who isn't. I am an underground DJ now for 25 years now and it sucks! is this underground? its your personal opinion, a feeling, and If you don't like what you see move on create something else, but never put yourself under pressure to be or not to be underground. Don't sell out of course! Until you have mastered that you have no right to judge, moan or condemn anyone. the true underground doesn't need a label or people defending it. the true underground needs people with a vision or the energy to create something new and exciting, to inspire others to do the same. underground has NO rules about who does what and why. specific sponsors are vital! its not Nike or Esso is it!? calm the f* down people. idk who is and isn't underground or mainstream. its not about ideology! its about art. respect what you see, hear or feel and if you don't like it change it, or walk away from it, but don't judge it please! underground or mainstream, in the end its all art. true art has NO RULES. because I pay to into the Tate modern doesn't mean there is no UNDERGROUND art in there, or therefore its not pure or whatever. give yourself a brake and support the art rather than to criticise it! my 50 cents
Wow... just wow.... SOOOOO Well done... never been to Moscow or into that scene by the Story telling and creative direction of the shots and narration is well done. I am glad i dont have the benefit of knowing intimately the details of the scene. I am sure Bwalya Newton had just a short window to understated the scene enough to tell A story not THE story. I get the responses of folks below whom understand the scene intimately and the nuances and details missing or perceived differently. But for someone whom cant fact check it and interesting purely in the story telling... bravo..

Wrong. Good music hasn't to be necessarily a product. And it can be created in any political concept of a mode of government. Even more - political systems that flout and limit civil rights exacerbate the reaction of creators.
@@jah_steez in Russia, a very strange died singer who wrote a joking song about Putin, his name was «Рабфак».What kind of reaction are you talking about if the majority of the population supported the Crimea annexation? ....in Russia, all people are crazy !they do not need freedom
speaking of the abstract majority, you claim that all russians are crazy. inconsistent output. generalization is inappropriate. lots of russian people don't accept and don't approve actions of the country's leadership (the same way as it take place in USA for example) and yes we need freedom to live. music can be created even in a prison.
