Thanks for this comparison. I like this format and particularly the back and forth between reviewers that are coming from different places, priorities, experience, etc. Would love to hear your thoughts, if you have any, on the Wotan. Is it more of an all-arounder that doesn't make mistakes, or does it have any standout strengths or weaknesses when compared to other Schiit offerings you've heard. It's interesting that on the DAC side, Schiit is currently in a place where the product that sits one step below their top-of-the-line is so good. I'm wondering if they've done the same thing on the amp side with Wotan or if there is more of a steady good-better-best progression between Aegir/Vidar → Wotan → Tyr?
Sorry folks- not selling or trading my Yggy+OG for a Gungnir 2 based on a single YT video. Running Yggy OG -> Freya+ with upgraded NOS tubes -> Tyrs, I find the bass impactful, not at all ‘phat’, rather well-textured. The soundstage is wide, deep, well-layered and the imaging clear and precise. YMMV. Maybe when Jason brings out the Yggy Mulit-form/multi-bit next year, I might then consider an upgrade in the Yggy ecosystem. If, however, viewers want to step into the Schiit DAC space for substantially less cash, it sounds like G2 is a solid performer.
Definitely do not sell your Schiit. You have an incredible setup with a familiar sound you know and love which you have been curating over the years to form to your taste. However, I am definitely upgrading from the Bifrost 2/64. I bought the mjolnir 3 with a plan to match a similarly priced dac and the only one was the Bifrost at the time.
I understand that G2 is better than MIB in nearly every way. Soundstage, layering, clarity, definition, etc. If you do a follow-up, I'd like to hear a bit more about the character of the sound relative to other Schiit DACs. It is smoother than MIB but is it Dark like LIM or Bifrost 2 OG. How would I match system components with a Gungnir 2? et cetera. Thanks!
Where was the Gungnir 2 comparison with the BiFrost 2? Schitt really needed to up their game because of the competition from so many others at the $1500 price point. Yggy will now have to do something really fancy but honestly, you're getting into law of diminishing returns after Gungnir 2. I'm guessing Yggy sales will drop off now as it's no longer a value.
I was surprised at how badly the Gumby 1 A2 did on Marv’s radar chart on SBAF. I have that unit and always enjoyed it. I also have the Yggy LIM and can’t seem to warm up to it completely. Something seems missing. Can you speak to how the Gungnir 2 comparos to the LIM? Thanks for all your work on our behalf!!
I don't think the BF series is anywhere near the G2. I mean the G2 > Yggy flavors as it stands right now. BF OG was nice thick and bassy, but didn't play in Yggy's league. BF2/64 was able to extra more detail, I found too harsh in the highs for my taste.
Dumb question - How long was the Yggy A2 warmed up for? If the Yggy was unplugged then replugged, a warmup of weeks (not days) would be needed. Others may disagree, but my Yggy OG/A2 needs a lot of time to get prepared.
This would be a great comparison as they are close in price point. @Digital Sound Babe: To eliminate the potential for expectation bias or halo effect, I would really like to hear your impressions from a blind A/B listening test. Thanks!
Nice format and excellent discussion! Subscribed.
Bifrost comparison????
Great discussion! You have a new subscriber!

Did the original Gungnir 1 have the multibit module installed?
Guys just a small tip, try to stop talking over each other, give it a little more time.

Brother you have the holy schiit grail.
Unless you have the wild desire to start upsampling everything or doing all to DSD, you're set 🫡

How does it compare to OG Bifrost 2?

Thanks for the review!
Why tho is this the only review regarding gungnir 2 or any schiit forkbeard product on UA-cam?
Because it's only been available for about 3 weeks.

Did you have any thoughts on how G2 compares to BF2/64? (or even BF2 OG)?
I have not heard the BF2/64.

Have the BF2/64 and the G1. Prefer the G1, cant wait to hear the G2 though

The Yggy was warmed up for over one week.
Have you heard the RME ADI-2 PRO FS R BE to compare to the Schiit dacs?
Gungnir 2 vs Yggy+ GS2 anyone?
This would be a great comparison as they are close in price point. @Digital Sound Babe: To eliminate the potential for expectation bias or halo effect, I would really like to hear your impressions from a blind A/B listening test. Thanks!
Ohhh, now I want to sell my Yggy A2 and get a G2. Nah not really, but G2 sounds pretty awesome can’t wait to hear some day.
Thinking the same thing!
Soundclips or it didn't happen.
