This movie is so cute 😂 I like his “robotic” little mannerisms here and there he’s such a great versatile actor and I like how he always does such different roles he keeps it interesting and is open to doing different kinds of work. That’s what makes a true actor. His German is great too 👏🏻👍🏻🕴🏻
Dan Stevens has really turned into an interesting character actor. Never would have guessed that from Downton Abbey.
His scenes only got better and better on Downton Abbey. Such an underrated actor. Happy he is getting more and more recognition for the versatile actor he is.
@Ann I couldn't agree with you more. After first noticing him in Downton Abbey, I was hooked. And I don't just mean his handsome physicality. There are many very good-looking men from that show, but like you, I felt he stood out because 1) of the kind of character that Julian Fellowes wrote for Matthew, and 2) his singular way of delivering his lines. To me, he stood out in every scene he was in. I then sought out his earlier work, such as The Line of Beauty (2006), his first starring role from a beautiful book from the same name that won the prestigious Man Booker Award by Alan Hollinghurst. Then I saw his roles in the BBC's Dracula, Frankenstein and Hilde, the German film where his fluent German came in very handy. All these were done pre-Downton Abbey. Then I was flabbergasted by his 180-degree turnaround from DA to his offbeat starring role in The Guest, which has become a cult classic (and has been on Netflix). He has constantly been underrated, especially in Beauty & the Beast. And his show-stopping comic/tragic role in Eurovision once and for all cemented his talent for comedy (although he showed that in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, in 2014). Even the film's star, Will Ferrell and director, David Dobkin, were blown away by his tour-de-force performance and both said he stole the movie. Now that he's with powerhouse CAA, I expect he will be given better quality scripts. He certainly deserves them.
@Ann You're totally right about how riddled Downton Abbey is with bad writing and plot holes. And of the acting talent on the show that could hide those shortcomings, Dan Stevens was one of them- and good for him for making his exit when he did.
@@laurenstich1049 His work on The Guest was really impressive, especially as his first movie out of the gate after leaving Downton. And he was hilarious on Eurovision! (I have not yet seen Night at the Museum, and now I will look for that!)
@@lexistential247 Yes, very impressive indeed. His role as Sir Lancelot is a riot, first time we see Dan in a comic role, and according to many, including the late great Robin Williams, he hit it out of the park. Ben Stiller (director) was so thrilled he went with Dan for the part. Opened many people's eyes how versatile an actor Dan Stevens really is. And Eurovision was brilliant!!
I can't believe that Dan doesn't get bigger gigs - he's amazing.
Now that he's signed with CAA last May, he IS getting bigger gigs. And he's responding by outstanding performances.
He's currently shooting "Gaslit" with Sean Penn and Julia Roberts...so I think he's doing okay.
@@mapleislet5489 Oh, he certainly is. Solos was just released a few weeks ago, The Prince (animated series where he does the voices of both Prince Charles and his father, Prince Philip) is on hold because of the death of Prince Philip, and as you said, he's shooting Gaslit now, playing John Dean. But first, I can't wait to see him in I Am Your Man, which got rave reviews at Berlinale (German Film Festival) in March. Dan got the best reviews of his life (after his rollicking comedic turn as Alexander Lemtov in Eurovision).
I think as a truly talented and creative artist, he picks projects that intrigue him and not necessarily "big" projects that are run of the mill same old stuff. His quirkiness is one of the most appealing thing about him :)
@@aliceliang2184 Agree 100%. He is his own man and I love that about him. Love that he seeks diverse roles that expand his repertoire. But you know me, I'm totally sold on this guy.
This should be a lesson to all actors whose first language was English that the more languages they speak, the more possibilities exist where they can act in non-American/British/Australian movies.
Yes, agree. And Dan's exquisite German is as poetic as his native British language. Would love seeing him in a French film as well -- fluent in English, French and German.
I love this brief clip -- the more I see it, the more I like it. This looks so good!! Amazed, once again, at Dan's ease with the German language (as he proved years ago -- 2009 -- in "Hilde"). He is just so damn appealing, and I can't wait to finally see this film. So thrilled it had English subtitles. Dan's facial expressions are so magnificent. Still so underrated as an actor, I hope this film brings him much overdue acknowledgement. Yes, he's a gorgeous man, but I sometimes feel his physical beauty takes away from the fact he's such a fine actor.
Absolutely agree with you 100%!
Well said! He has such great charisma and is so good at transferring it on to the characters he plays, so they all become very convincing. And he's one of the best book narrators you can find, because of his unique character making skills. Can't wait to see this and more of his works!
Couldn't agree more.....He is most unique in that he is not after the celebrity status but as a true creative artist, he is forever exploring interesting roles and stories, and the people he gets to work with. I saw him a year ago on Broadway in Hangmen - the most difficult, demanding of actors' talent and Dan was absolutely amazing. If it wasn't for COVID and the shut-down, he would have been on his way to a Tony!!
@@aliceliang2184 Yes -- from all the reviews before it all came to an end because of Covid, Dan was getting nothing but raves for his performance. Wow -- lucky you that you were one of the very few who saw him in previews as it closed I think after only 2 weeks due to Covid!! I have no doubt that there will be a Tony, an Emmy, a Golden Globe and of course, an Oscar in his future. Plus, like every really good actor, he has such a great affinity for Broadway. He did so much stage work in London in his early 20s (including Noel Coward's Hayfever with Judi Dench), he was thrilled to play the lead in "The Heiress" back in 2012 on Broadway and always wanted to return eventually. He'll certain ly get his chance, I'm sure.
@@multiple_oranges Yes! I first saw him speak fluent German in the 2009 movie, "Hilde", and listening to his co-stars, director and others involved with the film, they were amazed by his command of the language. Not just his pronunciation in his dialogue for the movie, but in off-the-cuff press conferences done entirely in German -- he was so natural, comfortable in his own skin. He's highly intelligent, and his passion for English literature -- as well as ALL books (he has been quoted often as saying the one thing he could not live without in this world are....books!). I'd love for him to do a movie in French as well. Honestly, he is *that* talented that I believe there isn't a role he couldn't do.
Omg!!! he is amazing.
how come i have never came across this guy before. I just watched "The Guest" & i am here searching for more of his work.
His acting skills are so crazy.
Even from this short clip, it is evident that Dan's stellar performance for such a challenging role made the story more compelling, poignant . His robot will be forever memorable (not to mention his amazing command of German - mesmerizing when he speaks it). He should have been the rightful recipient of the Silver Bear award! Dying to see the entire film...
Can't agree more!
Once again, Dan just *becomes* the role he's playing. It's so unfortunate how underrated he is as an actor. He's sublime in these brief clips, can't wait to see the entire film.
Lauren Stich : Judged by the clips Dan once again (like in the fire saga) delivered a stellar performance and made the whole film much more interesting and enjoyable. Almost all English reports gave him big praise he deserves. But in all German reports (I have read so far) about the winner of the film they didn't even mention his name. So unfair.
@@xlleona4532 Yes, eventually Dan WILL receive the acknowledgements he so richly deserves. And he's such a *nice* guy, too.
I love how the lead switches back and forth. Encounter at eye level. I can sense good chemistry between human and robot. Oh, and by the way, this rumba facial expression is just brilliant. x)
Agree, J Wang. His expression when he talks about rumba is delicious!! It's little nuances like this that make Dan such a fine actor. He's so underrated, hope this film gets him even more recognition that he truly deserves. I'm excited to see this film. Dan Stevens in a romantic (even if sci-fi film) is a can't miss.
Good choice from Maria Schrader to choose Dan Stevens for this role.
He was very good in Downton Abbey, but brilliant in Legion.
He is an enrichment for this German movie.
I REALLY HOPE THEY WILL * STREAM * THAT MOVIE SOON !!
need to see this/Dan on the big screen in cinemas!!
This looks intriguing and still humorous, Dan Stevens really is marvellous
I watched this movie tonight, it was mesmerizing!
As I watch the movie clip, Dan Stevens performance in this movie is excellent. His acting is perfect. (I have seen so many Hollywood actors as well as old and new British actors' performance in the movies, but Dan Stevens as an actor is indeed versatile. He can as a soldier, husband, beast, dreamer, robot, singer etc. A brilliant actor with X factor. ) I do believe he deserves such acting award. The movie is funny because of the content it conveys, plus the performance of the actors.
Dan Stevens WOW! I wish there was a release date in the US 😫😫😫😭 Waiting.......
I’m going to love this film. I know I will, because I’ve loved every clip I’ve seen, so far. I don’t even mind that I have to rely on the English captions - the only other film that I can say that about is Babette’s Feast, and that’s really saying something!
Love the interaction. Look forward to UK release.
Both players are amazing!
Both amazing and creepy
Can't wait
I just saw the movie and am mesmerized! Not only by the actors' performances but also by the very interesting thought experiments. How far can science go in programming humanoid robots? And to what extend is it ethically justifiable to grant them with human rights? Currently the movie can be streamed without any cost in the ARD Mediathek.
I really love the German language, there's a sophistication to it. Idk but it's soothing to my ears. I do wonder if there's slang German like I'm America. We talk incredibly casual here in the states. I don't think I've ever come across a formal engagement in my life. Other than professionally which has its own vernacular.
Agree - and I love Dan's elegant pronunciation. It's like I've never really heard German before until now.
Oh yeah...there is slang German. Steven is talking like a poet but they used to in those days. His likes of Rilke explains it. And words where important they had nothing else to express how they felt.🤔 Actually it's sad that those days are gone. 😕 I like to hear well choosen words.
@@jjuniper721 And Dan's spoken words are pure eloquence -- whether in proper English or German. I can only imagine what his fluent French sounds like.....
Yes, German has a variety of dialects, between those also slang. It's a very rich language you can choose to speak in very different ways.
İ agree. İ love The German language too. Something about it, just is beautiful. İ know a little bit of German, but I want to fluently learn it.
Wowwwww Dan, you are awesome and amazing always. In this movie, Oh My God, you are a robot 🤖 wow, I proudly say, you are my best actor. God bless you💚
Great actor. 💐
I hope this comes to the U.S. very soon!
I just can't wait -- have watched this clip over and over and over. Can't get over Dan's inhabiting a "robot", and his facial expressions, etc. Fascinating. Can see how this turns out to be quite a love story -- a fantasy, perhaps, but nevertheless a tragi-comic romantic storyline.
oh I want to see more!
Dan Stevens transformandose de papel en papel, es impresionante!!!. Todas sus expresiones faciales cambian. Todo lo que ha hecho es sorprendente y todo lo que vendrá...😌
Really liked this movie and Dan did an amazing job!
I love this clip, I saw two more and I can say that this show has great potential for continuation. The acting is at a high level. What's gonna happened next? I only hope they will be derailed because their chemistry is off the charts.
Anxious to see the entire movie where he eventually calculates what he is doing wrong according to her algorithms and then she inevitably warms up to his undeniable charms......wow!
I wonder how many German actors he needed to "beat off" (Susanna, thank you) to get this role? You get a sense that he's a wonderful creation, too real in some respects, yet he added some quirky uncanny valley moves in it to make you suspect he's not real. Bravo!
Have you seen it yet? He‘s really amazing (my top 2 characters of his:this and Lemtov).,and the director specifically was looking for a non-German actor for this role which I‘m glad about (there‘s only like 3 or 4 great German actors in my opinion who could have pulled this off acting-wise but aren‘t as handsome)
They actually looked specifically for a foreign actor who could speak German but with an accent so that he could bring this special element with him that makes Tom feel quite different from the others/the humans. (Though within the movie they do explain his English accent as a preference of Alma.) Dan speaks German very very well, but still different from a native speaker, it doesn't sound quite right, so it adds to the impression that talking doesn't come entirely natural to Tom, or rather: isn't natural since Tom isn't natural. You know, the intonation isnt always perfect as you would expect from a computer/robot. I think Dan was THE best choice! He plays this role fantastically.
@@LisaZoe86 have you seen “Hilde”?(biopic on Hildegard Knef)., as a German,I was like “if I did not know better I would think he is German who feigns a slight British accent”, he was that good). On the movie: I daresay Dan is the only thing worth watching it for (the themes have already been explored better in other works (“her”Star Trek: tng and “the silver metal lover” by Tanith Lee (great British ya sf android romance novel., wish that that one would have been the main inspiration).
Good lord, have mercy on my ovaries!
I am aching to watch this movie
Agree 100%. For the first time in a very long time, it's Dan in a romantic story with Maria Schrader directing. She won an Emmy last year for her brilliant work in "Unorthodox". I can't wait to see this, but have no idea when it will come to the U.S.
I want to see this movie in Mexico!!!
Wow, is he available on Amazon ? ICH WILL.
super film!
Name of song?
I'm gonna watch it!
Dan Stevens' accent seems really fitting for his role. His pronunciation is mostly good (in a few words, like "Alma" and "bordeaux", you can definitely hear that he's a native English speaker), but his cadence is slightly off, which feels uncanny. Definitely an interesting decision to cast him as an android.
Many native Germans don't even speak "Hochdeutsch". Most German dialects sound quite hard. But Dan speaks Standard German and his pronunciation is excellent. He definitely makes German sound soothing, elegant and somehow even sexy.
@@xlleona4532 Exquisitely divine accent. Definitely makes German sound very sexy. Not surprising -- everything he does is with a high intellect and high class. Like his female co-star, Maren Eggert, who won the Silver Bear Award as best performer (it was not divided into actor or actress), there is no question Dan Stevens SHOULD have won as well.
@@laurenstich1049 He absolutely should have won the Silver Bear - he carried the essence of the movie and made it what it is!!
The script intended to have Tom speaking German with a "foreign" (British in this case) accent - the way Alma prefers her "men" to be......Dan's delivered it perfectly!
@@aliceliang2184 Dan usually hits it out of the park, and this is no exception. I am so anxious to finally see this. Will be distributed all over the world either late summer or early fall.
Where can I see this movie ?
Hello kristbjorg999, thank you for your interest in "I'm Your Man". It depends on where you are located. Right now, for instance, you can stream the film free of charge in the German ARD media library. However, there, the film is in German without any subtitles. Unfortunately, we can't tell you if there are any other streaming options by other streaming providers, but the distributor may be able to help you: beta@betacinema.com. All the best!
@@berlinale awesome ! Vielen Danke 🙌🏻🤗
When is this gonna be released on streaming platforms?
That’s some craptastically bad ADR ... Dan Stevens’ German wasn’t quite so good on the day ... yes, Europeans make utter dreck too
@@noelephantitis Seriously?? All my German friends -- born in Germany, exclaimed how incredibly spot-on Dan is with his accent. Exquisite was the word mostly used, and the director, German-born Maria Schrader, happens to think that way too.
@@noelephantitis You're so wrong lol
@@laurenstich1049 Ich stimme ein! Sein Akzent ist sehr gut!
@@madelineherrle8708 Sorry -- can you translate to English??
I THOUGHT HE LOOKED FAMILIAR! DOWNTON ABBEY?HE IS VERY ATTRACTIVE IN THIS PERFORMANCE........VERY HYSTERICAL FILM FOR SURE. WHEN IS IT OUT?
I just watched this clip thinking, that actor looks a bit like Dan Stevens... and he speaks German like an English speaker....
Where to watch it?
It hasn't been released yet -- either theaters or VOD. But it should be out later this summer/fall for all of us to watch.
In Star Trek lingo she's probing to determine if she's in an hololodeck, and it looks like she is
Yep, I was thinking that she was trying to determine if the man was a robot of sorts
Dan Stevens speaks fluent German?
Fluent German and fluent French. He's just that kinda guy....loves languages, dialects, and all things books.
Ich bin dein Datenabzocker.
Dan's career trajectory is a bit disappointing. He's more of an explorer than an actor or artist, planting seeds everywhere but never coming back to take care of them. He has the mindset of, if it grows, it grows (If it happens, it happens). I'm sure he's having fun though.

You look like Alice Cooper
I feel like in every movie they need to cram as many minorities as possible, and if the lead actress is young, white, beautiful, her love interest would be a black or brown man, and if the lead actress is old and haggard like this one, her love interest would be an young handsome white just man gushing over her
