I get a 90-minute massage every two weeks without fail. I also just changed from a $20-a-month big chain gym that was always crowded to a high-end fitness center with a zillion (free) classes, top-of-the-line equipment, Olympic sized indoor and outdoor pools, and sauna. When I sat down with the facility rep to talk about how much it cost, I mentally calculated how much the fee would be annually ($1,860). By looking at that big picture instead of the monthly fee, I realized my health was definitely worth it. I love going there! Rich life indeed...
Did you use the % approach? How much is that as a % of total income? Does it really contribute to your rich life? Hopefully, you're not getting things confused.
Unfortunately for me the only full service health club in my county open to the general public , complete with pools, etc. and the other amenities you described, shut down in 2024 . I had saved up for the yearly fee. Can't stand run of the mill "gyms", using boring machines day in and day out. Could go to the health club daily and do something enjoyable every time, including the classes; Yoga, water aerobics, exer-dancing, personal training on the machines, sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, massage, etc. Really miss it!
Have been in the multi club for a few years now, and of all the services and life hacks that come with the resources, the smallest changes can be the most satisfying. For example, the most universally hated experience among everyone is listening to ads and sales pitches from every angle of life. Paying money not to be interrupted, feel sales pressure, or suspect manipulation for sales pitches nonstop is the most rewarding thing ever lol.
Totally agree, however, now advertisers are paying content providers (including Ramit) to advertise their product in the middle of their UA-cam video. It’s totally annoying and I make it a point not to buy or even consider the product or service being advertised and I fast forward thru the ads. I pay UA-cam a premium to not have to see or listen to ads, yet again advertisers have found a way around that.
I stopped letting price influence which ice cream to buy myself. It's a small and silly thing, but as I've reduced the amount of treats I eat, I would much rather get my very favourites than stock up on things that aren't my favourites just because it's cheaper to do so. I may enjoy the kinds on sale, but they aren't my very favourite, so now I get my favourites.
Wow....I just tossed the last bit of my ice cream in the freezer this week. They were buy one, get one free and my favorite ice cream wasn't on sale. One jar of my favorite was more than the 2 on the deal. Well, they weren't anywhere near as good as my favorite and I ended up forcing myself to eat them. Thank you for the wisdom :).
I'm far from a multi-millionaire and can confirm that relating all purchases as a percentage of income is a better way to assess whether you can afford something. I like your list, it's solid.
That part about not telling people what to do - THAT IS GOLD. And I think that's what I've always hated about delegating in the first place, it's not usually the hands-off experience I had been looking for. Thank you, Ramit!!
As I've made more money, I have started budgeting and don't eat fast food unless I'm on a road trip. If I'm going to spend money eating out, I'm going to sit and enjoy it or cook it myself.
This is loosely correlated with money but one thing I started doing is only buying clothes if I'm replacing an existing item. Something needs to go out for me to justify buying something new.
I stopped saying “yes” to every gig. I’m a musician, and music school trains us to hustle hard for every opportunity. Now I say no to most things, so I can have control over how I spend my time.
Thanks Ramit! I have been putting off doing so many things for no reason at all! Today after watching this, I booked a massage, an oil change for my car and a haircut. I definitely need to stop putting things off!
@12:44 "my money is good money" - I consciously think like this myself and frequently wondering AITA but feel validated when hear this concept articulated. I love it.
As I made more money, I stopped hesitating to order drinks and appetizers with my meal. I was raised to only have an entree with water for my meal. This is by far the best "value" approach to dining out, but I don't have to be solely focused on value now.
Funnily enough, I didn't stop doing things, I did more things as business and investments gave me more time. I always wanted to fix my car instead of paying someone to do it (along with many other things around the house), so when I had an issue with my car (or anything else), before I would take it to a mechanic to fix, cause I had "more important things to do" and was always busy. Now I would go on youtube, find out what the issue could be and take the time to fix it myself, even if it took 1 week. When it was fixed, I would get great satisfaction that I learnt something new :) Since Ive had more time, I've learnt to weld, learnt to fix the car inside and out along with other things around the house 😂
Yeah, I use to do these types of things because I couldn't afford to pay people to do them. I have a weird collection of knowledge that most people don't get. I also really liked doing these things so I realized it was less about saving money and more about doing the things I enjoy....learning.
@@saucheung8160 yes, in my "day job" I "worked" with my hands too, but it was more around typing 🤣, now I can really work with my hands the traditional way. It is very fulfilling.
As I have more money, I have purchased less basic things, because I have discovered over time I can scavenge or buy on sale almost everything I need, if I collect it before I need it. Its a little more scarcity than abundance mindset, but as you get older the things you need to buy declines exponentially, potentially allowing you to increase your savings rate quite a bit, over just starting out.
Me too! I have the freedom to not need other people. I can fix it, update it, clean it myself and send the yahoos packing for the most part. Saves me money and I can do it the way I want it done to perfection if I want it. Independence is such a wonderful thing especially if you have all the money to do it :)
kind of expanding on "not needing a Netflix show to always look good". I remember David Goggins once said something along the lines of "think of the version of you that you present for yourself at an interview, you should wear that version of you every day" and that really resonated with me. Just sharing incase someone else might enjoy that too. Great video
I get a haircut every two weeks and have monthly massages. Over the course of a year haircuts and massages each cost me less than 1% of my earnings and it stopped making sense to stress over it when expanded out. Also getting FULL OUTFITS when I buy clothes, no more of I have nice shirts but no pants or shoes to match. I still hunt for deals but I no longer tolerate partial fits when it comes to looking good.
My wife and I stopped doing lawn work. I don't like doing it. It takes me 3-4 hours to do something professionals can do in under 30 minutes. It also looks much better.
I do exactly what you mentioned. I get 2 massages a week. Haircut minimum once every 2 weeks sometimes once a week. If it’s something healthy like vitamins and minerals I purchase without hesitation. Also massages are for your health. In addition I do saunas and steam room every week with pool time. Anything that adds value and healthy to my life I get without thinking. As Ive aged Ive come to understand that my health and happiness is critical and I will not sacrifice myself over a couple bucks. Great video. I did a video on this myself. Thanks
when i learned some of the concepts that Ramit offers, like his excel worksheet, wow, did i learn that you dont have to stress out about spending money. for the first time in my life, i was able to swipe my card even on the purchase of gas and feel confident! now that income is coming again, I am excited to feel that way about paying my bills and also spending money on the things that i love, like buying my sisters lunch, or paying for someone's sandwich! (doing the things that alleviated me when i wasn't financially literate for other people). I know i sound like an ad, but it really did work haha. ramit youre awesome! thank you for helping educate the public!!!
We've stopped looking at the prices of necessities (food, gas, etc) and instead choose the best option for ourselves. It cost what it cost, too many people get so worked up over the price of x when it's not controllable.
Great insight! I have seen this pattern in my own family. My parents started buying rentals properties when I was a child. They became quite successful in time. Yet they are still watching their money as if they didn’t have any, they have not learned to enjoy their wealth. I have been working on breaking these mindsets in my own life. We only live once and we are not taking it with us to the grave.
Wife and I just got back from a two week vacation where we flew business class for all the 7 flights we took in that time. This was our first time flying Business class and we had booked it mainly with points. But we found so much value in it that we decided that all our future long haul flights will be in Business class - even if we have to pay for it. We don't yet make as much that we can buy business class tickets without worry. So we have now setup a proactive system to put aside a few hundred dollars each month that will fund these tickets. This money comes from actively cutting down on expenses that don't add any value (mainly eating out) and also separately budgeting for it.
As my money has grown I spend more on small conveniences. For example I go out and buy $4 cardboard moving boxes from Home Depot, as many as I want, when I need boxes instead of agonizing in looking around the house find old used damaged boxes to use. It’s such a small thing but alleviates such a large headache.
Go to a mall a little after the stores close. They set out their empty boxes outside their doors. They have plenty of free clean boxes. You’ll save a ton of money by reusing the cardboard boxes
Not looking at how much things cost is an absolute game changer. I now worry a lot less when I see a huge price tag on something as long as my CSP says I can afford it. I just buy the best of everything I want as long as I have saved, invested, and covered my fixed costs. Thank you Ramit!!!!
Ramit, I watch your show because I disagree with you on as much as I agree with you, however I know, if I only listen to those I agree with I will never learn anything new in an echo chamber. I appreciate that this episode is teaching what to do with the success we earn. Thanks as always!
I've been budgeting for the past three years and adapted the percentage philosophy when it comes to income. I no longer have a scarcity mindset but I did for the first time exceed my leisure budget in May. It was a little alarm clock. Among other things, what I take away from this video is to also think of expenses in percentages of the total budget. Thank you. Subscribed.
The shift in mindset about spending and prioritizing as described in the video is crucial for anyone looking to not just accumulate wealth but also enjoy it meaningfully. Delegating tasks and investing in experiences that align with personal values isn't just smart; it's essential for sustained success and fulfillment. 💰
We prioritize food at this point, mostly scratch cooking and baking at home. We don't hesitate to buy the highest quality of whatever item. We rarely eat out but when we do, we order whatever we want. I rarely fly, but when I do and when it's available, I book lie flat class. My husband insists on doing the lawn and yard work because he enjoys it and the workout he gets from it. We do have a cleaning service. Other than that, what we get the most enjoyment from doesn't cost anything. There's just not much we want.
We decided to tip very generosity -( percentage plus add $20-$50 more) as our desire to 'be generous' in unexpected ways. I pick up pre-ordered food-household items or have it delivered to house- (I think that kept me from getting sick last few years!) and yes, we're both tall +6ft and discovered Business Class flights - that's now a MUST!
Pre-Covid I was a member of massage envy and paid a monthly membership fee. However, during the covid lockdown I couldn’t go therefore I canceled my membership and I bought a massage chair. I can now have an absolutely wonderful massage every day, multiple times a day if necessary without the monthly fee + tip. Massage chairs are wonderful and well worth the investment. I’ve saved over $4K on massages thanks to my massage chair! I’m Living my best life and my rich life!
As a net worth millionaire on paper (with debt), I always look at prices. How much does a meal would cost in total even if I have the money, how much would a manicure that I get once a month or once every two months would cost, etc. Some things don’t make sense to us, at least not right now in life. Business class tickets for $3K each vs. almost half of that per ticket at economy. Healthy groceries is something we don’t compromise though.
We're not even halfway through our FI journey and we travel like this already. We research a place for months and go off the beaten path often, when a guide who knows the place. The only difference is that we tend to do this in areas where the US dollar goes farther. In fact, there's ways to do most of this on an average income, especially the health aspect.
I stopped buying the cheapest of something. I don't seek the most expensive but weigh a price to headache ratio. For example I only own new cars. I don't buy luxury brands because I don't care about what kind of car or the status. However, I want to minimize future problems or mental space so I only keep vehicles to 60000 mile.
Same. Walmart started offering tip-free delivery in my area and it's been life changing. I have an extra hour or two every week to do with as I see fit.
That's really cool! I've always thought about money in terms of percentages. I made a goal long ago that I want to reach a level of wealth where a round trip international business class flight for 2 will cost 0.1% of my net worth.
7:56 whoever is writing your content needs to double check it unfortunately. I've noticed multiple typos, formatting errors and sloppy work posted across your newsletters, website/ digital content and UA-cam community posts. Email replies are fine, it's the static content that has issues. Hope this isn't too harsh to point out, if it was my business I'd rather know than give a bad impression that could put people off. Please hire someone to proof read.
I’ve come to the realization after watching a few videos of your financial content that your target audience is not everyday people. It’s for people who have finally reached wealth or new money. And you are guiding them to the process of not going out of control with it.
you should keep watching. You don’t get to that point without knowing the principles. The examples he gives are little un relatable, but it’s all relative. I can’t relate to hiring a personal photographer to teach me how to shoot, but I can relate to taking my car to a mechanic instead of spending an entire weekend trying to fix my car and still needing to take it to the mechanic anyway.
Watch more... it's more about how people interact with and FEEL about money. There are lots of different types of couples Ramit talks to. Some are months to weeks away from going broke. His system works.
@@AIRBORNE916no…you have to watch the episode of ‘we spend 98% of our income” & the recent couple who refused to f/u because they didn’t like what he said about changing….it not only for well to do couples. I just wish he would do single people…..
Started late to save and building house. Most assets tied up in house. Do I sell to grow investments. Always knew house is not an investment. Going thru a divorce soon. What is best to financially get ahead? No debt.
I stopped bowing down to my advisors (lawyers, CPA, doctors, contractors, etc.). Most people are afraid to talk back to the people they pay to work for them, but after I became relatively wealthy, I no longer follow their plan aimlessly and accept anything they say or do.
We began from nothing, and we remain as frugal as ever, which is probably a telltale mark of people who grew up experiencing scarcity. We buy very little of what we don’t essentially need. However we now take 3-4 holidays a year. We didn’t have money to travel during the time we were building our lives, and so now we’re making up for lost time. All our expenses are now on experiences. And books. I spend rather too much on books.
Sucks all the spam comments. SPAM! I started buying less spam when I started making more money. And eating out, I meal prep which saves a ton of time and money 💵
I have my own consulting biz and now 1) hire a copy editor for final deliverables instead of obsessing over the that myself and 2) get a facial + peel every month to keep my skin looking as good as possible instead of waiting until I've got a client presentation or workshop.
I signed up for the Conscious Spending spreadsheet. Disappointed. I found it a standard budget template. Does not link to the idea of conscious spending. The actual spreadsheet is tucked away in one of the links in the email. Not easy to find.
can you make a step by step video of where to invest. have seen many videos and i already was doing what youre saying but cant do the investement, because dont know where, which app, which funds, which risk percentage
Dear all, as your wealth increases, also remember to give to those in need. If you love animals, please give to shelters, if you love something else, find a cause that resonators with you. Remember that we cannot take our riches with us when we leave this earth but we have a choice as to how we manage our wealth and how we can help others, even with a small donation. Much love.
I’ve actually stopped mindlessly spending the more money I accumulate and think more about quality/value so when I do drop $$$ I know it was a great, lasting purchase. When I made less I spent more but now it’s the opposite ever since I started making 6 figures!
A rug .. hmm I havent had a hair cut in a few months.. been 3 years since i had one professionally.. bought a $25 set to do my beard and will use a 6 yo hair cutter this weekend. Cheap i know.. but it is what it is buddy! Maybe someday I'll get a professional hair cut.
The more ive had, the less i want to spend it on useless things. It's like, why waste money on this when i can use it for something i truly enjoy later on. Until then, save it or invest it.
I’m not wealthy, but I can afford my lifestyle. TBH, I like spending money on experiences. My daughter and I had the opportunity to spend a week in Mexico last year. We went to the zoo in Guadalajara. Feed a manatee? Yes. Feed spider monkeys? Also, yes. Now, we’re trying to find out what other animal experiences we can have in the US. She really wants an up close and personal experience with a red panda. I don’t know why, but I want to have an experience with a wolf. We’re strange like that.😆 My stepmom invited us to stay with her in Detroit. I’m already looking at what kinds of experiences we can have around the city. I asked my daughter if she would be willing to take a helicopter ride over Niagara Falls. She said yes. Now, we wait until my stepmom can host us.

The purpose of money is freedom and options. Once you start making real money, you start looking at the VALUE of things instead of the COST of things. Ok, good night.

Very informational video. Took notes and will start applying them myself
I hired a maid. My apartment has never been cleaner.
Maids are the lick-re!!❤❤
Yeah I get that 👏🏾
We're not even halfway through our FI journey and we travel like this already.
Now I’m the opposite. I never buy new cars & I only buy luxury vehicles 🤷🏾♀️. We all have our own rich vision 😏
Price to headace ratio - the things we learn!
Getting my weekly shop delivered! It’s amazing what you can do with a free Sunday each week!
weekly shop?
so how do you spend that extra day?
Same. Walmart started offering tip-free delivery in my area and it's been life changing. I have an extra hour or two every week to do with as I see fit.
@@BeleducMartello I have a son, so we go out for activity’s, see family, do day trips. It’s been really rewarding so far :)
@@Rashaadthegr8 groceries for a week? I’m in the uk so the terminology might be different :)
I’d love to see you on Hot Ones and see your heat tolerance. 🔥
That's really cool! I've always thought about money in terms of percentages. I made a goal long ago that I want to reach a level of wealth where a round trip international business class flight for 2 will cost 0.1% of my net worth.
I really like this contextualising! Food for thought!!!
Ramit is basically saying that our Rich Life should consist of things we enjoy. And to go and create it.
No. His content is aimed at teaching people how to live a better life with what they have. Read his book.
@@AIRBORNE916no…you have to watch the episode of ‘we spend 98% of our income” & the recent couple who refused to f/u because they didn’t like what he said about changing….it not only for well to do couples. I just wish he would do single people…..
Damnnn this is useful info.... Im not a millionaire but some of these basic things would really improve my life!
I like your style Sir. Keep it up!
My rich life had a fitness trainer a few times a week and since January I’ve had one. I’m stronger and enjoying paying for that service
Started late to save and building house. Most assets tied up in house. Do I sell to grow investments. Always knew house is not an investment. Going thru a divorce soon. What is best to financially get ahead? No debt.
In awe of your finance skills🔥
The biggest takeaway for me has been to prioritize building a team and delegating. You can go further together than you can by yourself.
Daaaaaammn, you make that tank look good 🔥 🔥
Sucks all the spam comments. SPAM! I started buying less spam when I started making more money. And eating out, I meal prep which saves a ton of time and money 💵
I stopped mowing the grass. Have it cut ona regular basis and takes the stress away. Use that time to do other things like ride my bike😊
Great insight
I have my own consulting biz and now 1) hire a copy editor for final deliverables instead of obsessing over the that myself and 2) get a facial + peel every month to keep my skin looking as good as possible instead of waiting until I've got a client presentation or workshop.
The business class flight tickets.... Ouch. They cost a small fortune , even for those with 7 figure net worth
I signed up for the Conscious Spending spreadsheet. Disappointed. I found it a standard budget template. Does not link to the idea of conscious spending.
The actual spreadsheet is tucked away in one of the links in the email. Not easy to find.
Would love to know we can go to for flat fee! Have found that to be a struggle.
Great vid Ramit.🙌
How early do you think a business owner should hire an assistant?
can you make a step by step video of where to invest. have seen many videos and i already was doing what youre saying but cant do the investement, because dont know where, which app, which funds, which risk percentage
Have you read chapters 3 and 7 of my book, I Will Teach You To Be Rich?
Wow 🤯 mind blowing advices
Dear all, as your wealth increases, also remember to give to those in need. If you love animals, please give to shelters, if you love something else, find a cause that resonators with you. Remember that we cannot take our riches with us when we leave this earth but we have a choice as to how we manage our wealth and how we can help others, even with a small donation. Much love.
I quit mowing. The service comes every week, and they are done in 15 minutes where I’d be out there an hour.
How do you ensure “it is still Ramit” when you don’t write your emails, posts and books anymore?
I stopped mowing my lawn. I still agonize over small purchases; it's an affliction :/
Stopped looking at prices for normal consumable goods (groceries, drinks, food etc)
Stopped buying just enough to get but. Getting food in bulk I worth in so many ways. Don't need the multiple trips to get groceries either.
I stopped being so cheap, I pay for dinner for friends and stuff now when I was always trying to pay as little as possible when the bill came before!
The more ive had, the less i want to spend it on useless things. It's like, why waste money on this when i can use it for something i truly enjoy later on. Until then, save it or invest it.
Oh thanks, I was worried I couldnt afford a 300$ sushi dinner😂
What if you look at prices and think about the supply chain and all the pain and suffering it has caused to make it so affordable? 🤔
Accepting mediocrity is so damn true boss
How can I contact you?I live in China
Buying the biggest sized food item. Value for money isn't value for money if it way exceeds your caloric needs.
We’re strange like that.😆
My stepmom invited us to stay with her in Detroit. I’m already looking at what kinds of experiences we can have around the city.
I asked my daughter if she would be willing to take a helicopter ride over Niagara Falls. She said yes. Now, we wait until my stepmom can host us.
little far from Detroit, but The Wilds in Ohio is really cool.
@@zackcinq-mars2129 What is that?
@@tspencer661 Its like a safari they have giraffes, rhinos, cheetahs. You can drive out and see them running around in their unnatural habitat. Probably the closest thing you will get to a safari on this continent.
@@zackcinq-mars2129 Wow. Sounds interesting. Thanks for letting me know about it.
Update. Ok. I just looked it up. It sounds more than interesting. It sounds amazing. I’m going to add it to my Pinterest board.😆
I need that sweater
He spends alot on his clothing…a lot. Line $7000 for a sweater 😏
Since I've made more money (6 figures), I've stopped painting my own toe nails.I get a pedicure and now I also get a massage every month
Olá , então Hoje comecei a acompanhar a série, na Netflix como fica rico e já vim te procurar nessa plataforma. E foi de 1 já ganhou um Escrito. Parabéns pelo conteúdo.
Please attach links to this sweater. I hope this is not a 10,000$ sweater.
It probably is….he spends a lot on his clothes 😏
Maybe $3000-$4000 😂
This advice is for people who is wealthy and have high income. What if you are wealthy but has lower income. Does these still apply ? I don't think so but would like your thoughts 🤔
I've stopped looking at the check when ordering food with my wife. I let her take care of it with out money while enjoying the experience.
I stopped flying early in the morning to save money. I only fly lunch time/afternoon
Grocery delivery service has saved me so much time and stress!
Pov: You're thirteen years old and, you're watching stuff that won't be of any value until 23.
(Why start working at 23 and not 21? Because I want to get a Master's degree because you have to get if you want a great job not be a lottery but with a 60 percent chance of winning.)
When your flight is over 4 hours and you go to business class, is that up from economy or down from first class?
Up from economy. Long flight -> more comfort
The purpose of money is freedom and options. Once you start making real money, you start looking at the VALUE of things instead of the COST of things.
Ok, good night.
Without health, wealth doesn't matter.
I stopped wasting time on stuff that doesnt matter.
skinny indian guy! haha
you are the best!
People we can not equate ourselves with Remit. He is a famous person. Most of us don't earn enough to afford what he can afford as a % of his total income. This video is not a license to go out and spend like crazy.
“My money is good money”
This is too much to digest for average Joe. Lets see which one Is do able.
