Even in 1993 J Mascis has been around The block many times in the music industry. He’s only 28 in the interview. Now I get that people that play guitar don’t think they sound better than anyone else who plays guitar but J Mascis is leagues better at guitar then Neil young. It’s crazy how good he is at guitar
"I feel your pain." "Really?" God this interview is such a microcosm of the 90s. I miss this shit. Long live J. Mascis. "One of the songs was really sad." "Aww"
I've watched enough J interviews to have arrived at some theories about this, because he does this in other interviews too. I really think it's that he'll start an interview and he's just being himself, but this almost never works for the interviewer, and some are more off put by his personality than others, so then he tries to correct for it and sometimes overcompensates. It actually shows that he's not really as much of an asshole as some people claim, nor is he aloof. It's actually just him making an effort for the benefit of the interviewer. J has conceded in interviews over the years that people very often don't know how to take him and that as a younger person he was a bit of an asshole that often upset people. It was either that or people thought he was weird, or an acid burnout/stoner, even when he was straight edge. lol. So it's not like he's unaware.
especially back then. he's opened up a lot more over the years it seems. back then he gave one word answers and showed literally zero emotion at all times
My goodness these where the best days ever! I saw Alice N Chains open for Ozzy September 22nd 1992…I was 21 years old and boy did we work hard and partied even harder back then.
No VJ ever knew how to interview. Every single MTV interview I have ever seen has always been extremely akward, no matter how much I like the VJ. These interviews are so painful. Jeeze, research folks... come up with questions... hold some flash cards. I think Kurt Loder might have been the only guy on MTV that ever conducted actual interviews.
There are people who had the hots for Daisy or Kennedy. I was all about Kennedy. These alternative nation videos make my heart flutter…yeah, I’ve had a few Chardonnay’s what of it?
Lou Barlow is only a shard more extroverted than J. Can you imagine those 2 on tour together? Of course, they seem like such nice, relatable guys compared to, say, the DBs in Metallica for example.
10:00 "Dinosaur Jr. are back to their original trio format... " (does he mean 3 people in a band, or 3 original members in the band )? Because following his sentence he talks about the new bass player in that trio format... confused with choice of wording. Lou Barlow was the original Trio. Or did they have more members before meaning it wasn't a trio people wise. Man I just gave myself a headache.
What a god awful interviewer I understand he’s not super extroverted but it seems like she didn’t do any research at all wish they took better advantage of the opportunity
@@BrooklynBaby100 Well I just saw it again two days ago and it's still one of the worst interviews I've ever seen, and it's not J's fault. Time hasn't changed anything. Are YOU Kennedy?
interviews r a stupid set up. if u walked up to j out in the real world acting the way mtv personalities act, he would run, most people would & yet here he is volunteering to this dumbing down of everyone involved. he said at 13 he decided to drop out of society, by age 16 he has a radio show at a MAJOR UNIVERSITY, explain his entre? Here he’s being interviewed by the ultimate not dropped out of society channel. People posing as counter cultural with signature guitars by fender available at guitar center.
"Do you have empathy for people?"
"...No"
It's amazing what a monster sound comes out of this introverted quiet guy.
Their personalities couldnt be more different lmao
This interview predates the song Feel the Pain. J literally might have got the idea from the chick at the start of the interview
That's what i was thinking!
@@galapagcs unreal! Thanks for sharing the video. You and I may have discovered a nugget of music history!
Wow that’s pretty interesting lol. At first I thought she was trying to reference the song but then I saw your comment
I mean it CANT be coincidence
Did you steal this comment from me?
J when talking about his music: 1:26
J when talking about some random TV show from the 90s: 2:40

J just wants to play his jazzmaster goddammit
he got so excited about television and then immediately quieted down when the subject changed
“You’re living all over me” is my favorite too! I knew it.
“Was that fun, doing a video?”
“It was a barrel of laughs.”
00:29 she gives him the idea for feel the pain
Kennedy just seems like a cool girl to hang out with. So outgoing, humble, friendly and just like a nice person
“They’re fuckin, brother and sister!” @ 2:52 😂
He looks so young!!! But he used to look so old to me back in 93!!
So weird to me as well
Maybe cause of the gray hair
I adore how you never know when J is gonna get loud in conversation 🤣🤣 2:40
He was passionate about whatever daytime show that was they were discussing. I noticed the same thing before seeing your comment :) LOL!

Cheers to Kennedy, getting more out of J than most interviewers can.

Fuck Kennedy. Shes become a fox news wacko
In this interview this is the loudest I’ve ever heard J speak
Thanks for putting it back up! I always watch this when it gets posted :)
kennedy: "i have empathy for people"
also kennedy: becomes a right wing libertarian talking head on faux news
But there's nothing wrong with that. -Seinfeld
I'm hearing My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins and R.E.M. in the background. Awesome.
stone roses
Fools Gold around 4 50 mark
And ministry
What’s the song that starts around 6:30?

I love Kennedy, their chemistry is surprisingly great
I love this
I love J Mascis interviews. Autistic creative genius doing his best to communicate

6:08 she mentions vaginal mycosis. look at his face. and then laughs like wtf did i just say

Dino jr great
5:23 only shallow what the hell
rhineceros by sp next
0:34 ..... and then she feels nothing?
The 90’s
I heard Jesus and the Mary chain stone roses and my bloody valentine during this interview - us gen Xers had the best music
Holy shit is this the same lady that’s on Fox News all the time ?
Lou Barlow is only a shard more extroverted than J. Can you imagine those 2 on tour together? Of course, they seem like such nice, relatable guys compared to, say, the DBs in Metallica for example.
Do you have any idea where i can find out about his early childhood? I need it for a project
Uh, try Googling J Mascis. The man is a legend.
What a long painful time
I heard a bunch of words, but did they actually SAY anything?
lmao here we go
10:00 "Dinosaur Jr. are back to their original trio format... " (does he mean 3 people in a band, or 3 original members in the band )? 0:34 Lol. Referencing his own lyrics. Isn't Kennedy a right winger now?

song at around 6:18? it sounds so familiar
I believe it's Rhinoceros by The Smashing Pumpkins
@@galapagcs thanks, you were right
Man..😂
It's no wonder she ended up a Fox News lackey.
God this is painful. He’s a horrible interview, and to fix it Kennedy triples down on the Kennedy routine and it just gets worse and worse and worse
Wonder if J is a Fox Nation person?
lol
Wow... people forget that Alternative music and MTV where not compatible. We hated MTV.
Absolutely despised it...yet still hate-watched constantly.
I have one. Which girls crazy enough to care about me. None so far
The cringe is real.
The masons hate me because I know more of their secrets than they do. They have none.
I know Kennedy will drown anyone out but man, J is a mumbler.
She turned out to be incapable of empathy.
Way to adapt to your guest
By the way.. Dinosaur Jr. . . not a 90s band. An 80s band far back in the mid 80s. Sorry 90s, 80s wins again :)
monoboard lmao
