    I've been paddling canoes and kayaks for more than 40 years and many, many thousands of miles and I learned some new tricks from watching this. Can't imagine anyone interested in paddling who wouldn't benefit as well.

      before paddling with her I thought I knew how to paddle.... lol Which technique did you learn and that you are looking forward to practice?

    That was fun to watch! I could imagine the natural “intimidation factor” of paddling with her 🙂 You did well! I’m going to try adjusting my seating position to “face my stroke” and see how that changes things for me. Another great video & kudos for the idea and execution! 👏🏻😀

    That sculling draw stroke is the primary stroke used in a coracle.
    Since the coracle is round, or nearly so, the standard canoe stroke will just cause the coracle to spin and go nowhere!
    I use it to bring a dinghy into a crowded dinghy dock where rowing is impossible. I do the draw sculling stroke with one oar over the bow of the dinghy--the coracle stroke!

    Great video! I took solo lessons with Becky more than 30 years ago when I got my first Prospector and it upped my enjoyment of paddling tenfold. All these years later, with a new Keewaydin 16 canoe that’s quite different, I’m taking more lessons from her this summer. I want to learn the possibilities and limitations of this new canoe and to learn some techniques for my older knees and body. Becky is an awesome instructor and I really encourage anyone who wants to up their solo paddling game to take lessons with her.

    Been canoeing solo in the BWCA for years and I always just power stroke until I cant lift my shoulders at the end of the week. She makes it look so easy.

    Cool ton cours d’aviron.
Bravo!

    Amazing video, what a shame being living in London UK, otherwise I would be taking lessons from her to improve my solo canoeing techniques. I can’t wait to the next weekend to go to the river and practice 🛶.

    Wow shes awesome . I learned a lot , I can't wait to put it into practice. I just wish she had a better mic . Kinda far away and hard to hear at times ....... Its all about the paddle . Good video . Thank you .

    This was great. I learned a few things I have been struggling with. I noticed Becky was kneeling almost right at the centre point of her canoe against her yoke. I see you were kneeling fairly far back from it and wonder if you think that makes much of a difference in handling when solo. Is the closest to that point crucial? Thanks for making this video.

    • @martymorissette
      @martymorissette  11 місяців тому

      the closer to the pivot point the better indeed :) I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

    • @fredericpilon8435
      @fredericpilon8435 10 місяців тому +1

      The closest to the pivot point, the easiest it is to turn the canoe. I have a 16,6 prospector and the kneeling twart lower my body and helps a lot at controlling the canoe, especially in windy conditions. I also add extra weight to the front of the boat on windy days to trim the canoe flush to the waterline.

    I have so many questions!
    What was that thing you were kneeling on? Looked like a beanbag. Is it better than a foam pad?
    It looked like you had a kevlar Prospector, but what was Becky paddling?

    • @martymorissette
      @martymorissette  2 роки тому +4

      Hey, we were kneeling on a stuff sack (Looked like a 20 to 25 liters) filled with foam in it. And four our knees we had foam squares at the bottom of the canoe. Both of us were ridding kevlar prospector canoes.
