We have seen it 4 years in a row. He struggles under pressure. When you play good teams, there is usually more pressure. Its why his record against playoff caliber teams is pitiful.
Per your question about the difference between Tua's contract and the franchise tag, YES! The $34M over 3 years is undeniably worth hit. The cap flexibility alone answers the question. Very convoluted - but looks to be good for both. Now, ensure the O-line can hold up for 3 seconds and the defensive line can do relatively well, while not rushing Phillips or Chubb back. Win December.
We are going to be active in free agency this year..We have a ton of draft picks for compensatory picks ..We have a lot of options with this signing...
With the high cap numbers coming soon I am concerned that there's effectively "forced" renegotiation coming as soon as this winter. Basically kicking the can down the road, if we want to resign some of our key young players. Therefore I think the real value of the added flexibility remains in the event that Tua gets so concussed this season that he decides to hang it up - like he almost did before last season.
I’m still shocked at the amount of Dolphins fans that were ready to drop Tua cuz he didn’t do enough?! The BIGGEST concern was health and he played all 17 last year and lead in yards. And though I understand the issues with winning against playoff teams, I think people have forgottten how long it’s been since we had a QB that could lead a team and franchise. I’d think it’s Marino. It’s been a rough two decades of dealing with Brady and not having and answer and constantly mediocre teams. This offense is electric and a joy to watch, and all true dolphins fans understand the importance of this signing. Cuz I think it’s all up from here, he finally has that security. His entire NFL career has been people questioning his capabilities. I have no doubt he’s a top 10 QB

It is shocking.... if you add in the full context - O-Line injuries, Tyreek/Waddle/Mostert injuries (and lack of depth elsewhere), Tua told NOT to attempt to extend plays, not to mention injuries on defense.... It takes a FULL TEAM to beat the really good teams. I expect Tua to be back to being mobile, running, and extending plays more - which will be needed with the poor-pass-blocking O-Line.
Doesn't the NFL project to have the cap go up $30-$50 Million per year per team? In essence, shouldn't the percentage that Tua takes from the cap stay the same? If so, that's crazy to think. They would essentially be paying Tua the same for the next few years as they've been paying him for the last 3 years, as his value would increase; meanwhile, his cap hit would stay the same. That's wild if the percentages match up. Would be interesting to compare. That might even allow the team to bring in MORE --not less-- talent around him if that figures to be true. That's even more astonishing considering that normally, players improve over time (ala Tom Brady) just due to the increased number & variety of reps. This does not include the fact that quarterbacks will be playing mostly younger and less experienced defenses during their 7-8 years in the league.
As each QB matures, they should be seeing things they’ve seen before and reacting better, relatively, compared to their first few years. I think Tua is going to be able to execute at that higher level going forward. Should be interesting to watch.
The best thing about this contract is that Miami can move on from this contract after this year. As long as they cut Tua prior to March 2025 or the Dolphins will 19:05 tale a 59M cap hit. So, Tua basically has to prove he is worth it….if not, he’ll end up like Russell Wilson….CUT!!!!
