In this episode of the Scott's Bass Lessons Podcast I sit down with the godfather of gospel bass, Andrew Gouché.
Andrew is a grammy winning producer, world-renowned bassist, musical director, producer and composer. He's best known for his creatively original bass lines and a unique sound that bass players around the world have sought to emulate. With over 30 years of experience as the bassist for many R&B and Gospel legends such as Prince and the New Power Generation, Gladys Knight, Andraé Crouch, The Winans, and musical director for Chaka Khan, Andrew is one of the most experienced bass players there is - and in this exclusive interview, he certainly delivers!

Damn ...what a great bassy voice Andrew's got too :-) !!!
+Stckmand It sure is man - born to be a bass player!
No Shit! My thoughts as well!!
Even his voice is tuned down :) The gangster of Bass!!
Yep, I 1st saw him live with the Winans in the early 80's and he changed my musical life forever. I never had seen anyone play with his groove and enthusiasm before. I brought every album he played on and have enjoyed each one. I couldn't believe that he wasn't a "techically trained" musician. Love always Big "G"!
I originally found this channel when i was re stringing my Mike Dirnt signature P Bass. And i put strings on better than the stock strings i replaced, because of this channel.
But the thing i love the most about Scotts channel here is the different kinds of people, all the amazing secrets and just the absolute free spirit.
But the best part is. Is that it promotes you to do it yourself. Sure you could sound like me play like me look like me. But there is a certain beauty in finding your own sound.
Thanks Scott and everyone involved.
Freakin love you guys.
:Tyberius
+Tyberius Ahhhh thanks Tyberius! Happy new year in advance. Groove on brother :)
RIP Joel Smith you are missed.
On Chaka Khan's Naughty, back in 1980, Anthony Jackson tuned down his pbass to CFBbEb (Willie Weeks and Marcus Miller are also featured on this highly recomended album btw ;)
+Greg F i love that tuning
+DarrParrot yeah but you gotta put 50-110s in order to get a decent tension ;)
I love Andrew Gouché's music especially his latest album!!!!
+Nickolas Jones Fantastic Nickolas! :)
This dudes voice is a bass
For sure
RIP The OG Joel Smith. ❤
that voice tho
+Justus Bacon It's Looooooow!
+Scott Devine First thing I noticed, his voice has a bass guitar growl...He must have been raised by a family of feral basses.
3:04 Black willem dafoe
Needed to hear this🎸🎸🎸
yeah...really inspiring
awesome
no more video of this interview?
The Godfather of gospel bass..!😂
Gospel Bass playas can really Jam
I wonder how did he get the gig to play for Prince....
Robert Wilson RPZ
scott interrupts his guest a lot)
+inglewoodcompton that's how conversations work.
+Edward Hippisley-Cox rather monologue :P
+Jakub Baranowski exactly. when you ask a question, you wait for your guest to finish his thought, especially when his speech tempo is different from yours
if you have perfect pitch you can play any tuning
Jay Serrano you missed the whole point. It's not about being able to play (which he can certainly do) but it is just phisically impossible to play some notes in standard tuning. That is why 5 string basses were made, so people dont have to downtune their E string to be able to play those fat Eb or Db in gospel music and RnB etc
Yeaaah no thanks
3:05 if Willem Dafoe was a black man he’d sound like this
