- I wanted to share my experience with some issues I have been having loading and launching my HyloX Flash Drive on the Unico Neo Geo MVSX Arcade Cabinet. I took a peek around some forums and found a recommended fix for my issues and I gave it a shot and...it worked! I wanted to share this with all of you if some of you have been experiencing the same issues as me with launching your HyloX Builds on this nifty Multicade Device!

I changed out the stock usb cable to a higher 3.0 cable from the hub to the pcb and never had an issue, if you ever wanted to utilize that usb slot again this will also take care of that issue

Canadian MVSX with pedestal, riser and stool owner here with HyloX/Capcom, Omega, Usagi and Kriss USB Keys hacks.
I learned about this issue and fix about a year ago. Also when booting into MVSX menu option, you can see that the USB key is not even being detected which is likely the root cause of not being able to load other Menu options (HyloX, Capcom, Omega, etc). This procedure explained in your video is a great initial troubleshooting and work around solution when using 1 USB key, only costing some time, but, a PIA if you have more than one USB Key hack (HyloX/Capcom, Omega, Usagi, Kriss, etc).
The ultimate mod/fix is purchasing a high quality short .5m USB3.x USBA to USBA patch cable to replace the crappy stock one. Then you can continue to swap USB keys with the back cover assembled. I've had no issues for about a year with cable upgrade therefore I think I can conclude there's nothing wrong with rear power switch/USB hub port assembly. ❤ 👍
I also noticed a reduction in boot, launch and game launch times when using a good quality USB3.x USB key (Samsung FIT).
Awesome info here thank you so much! Personally, I just wanted the neo geo and Capcom games on here so I have the one hack with a couple hundred games. All the other games on the other USB hack keys I have on my atgames devices so wanted to keep this cab more unique. One USB for me.

Great video PDubs! There are very few videos on UA-cam offering this solution, so I'm sure you'll help a bunch of people. I did the same thing over a month ago. Originally I thought it was the Hylo X software, and once I installed the drive directly to the PCB, I've had no more issues. No crashing, and even some better performance with some titles!!! Super fun cab, especially with this mod. Thanks for the video and all you do for the home arcade community!

What games had better performance?? Very intriguing and I’m sure the hyloX guys would love to hear this and possibly mess with this (especially with that “all in 1 usb” file floating around).
that really annoys me when some of these companies cheap out on stuff that dosent cost much. especially when its lie over 500 swiss francs here. great video thx

I’m going to do exactly what you showed & plug it directly into the PCB cover it up & forget it. I saw videos about replacing the USB cables but this is so much better, thanks again!!

PDubs! Dude! This is great info! I plan to do this on mine now :) However, here's my story :)
So I was running out of outlets in my main home arcade and I had to start getting creative. I bought an extension cord splitter which I used to plug both my Arcade1up Atari Star Wars and the MVSX into to share one outlet on my UPS, since they both drew so little power. Doing this caused exactly what you showed in your video. I finally determined, for me, that the power draw was too great to allow the MVSX to power the USB drive. When I'd have both machines on, I couldn't get HyloX to launch, but if I just turned on the MVSX and left Star Wars off, it would load every time!
I've never had a problem with HyloX since, but I think I will try your solution as well to cover all bases.

Not being able to adjust dip switch settings kills it for me. Glad I passed on this and instead decided on the nova blast for my pcbs.

I literally just had the same problem with a brand new mvsx. But it actually turned into something of a larger problem, resulting in my having to return and replace the machine completely. Not sure what caused it but after loading the hylox and playing it a few days, the machine would glitch and return to the native mvsx game menu, and the thumb drive would not load. In fact it stopped seeing the drive completely, no icon or anything. If I adjusted the drive a little in the port, it would sometimes boot, but after a couple days it just stopped working. Did the research, replaced the internal cable, made a fresh new copy of hylox on a 64g thumb drive, reset the mvsx, and still no dice. So I plug the stick into the port you mentioned, guessing the hardware for the exterior port must just be faulty. Switch on the machine, and nothing..no power..at all. Well, at first the little red digital displays did the boot up cycles and the screen seemed on but no image, no marquee light, so I powered it off and that was the last time it would ever work again.
I freaked a little bit thinking that unico found a way to shut the hack down, and I would be out of luck trying to return it, but after calling and fessing up about loading games on it, they still took it back and sent a new one out. Bad power supply.
The new unit runs perfectly, and boots up every time.
Heres a tip unico gave me, you should back all the way out of the additional play systems to the mvsx’s original game selection screen before powering off. I didnt ask any questions, not sure why..but I figured he knew what he was talking about, so just thought I would share the info..thanks for the cool content!!

@@jskjellman mine wasn't loading without this. Sometimes the hack would load, but only one game every loaded once.... Now it's Badda-Bing-Bada-Boom working!

I take it that the USB port is significantly under-powered. Probably a weak cheese cable.... My USB buss on my Dell SE laptop is weak like that... Plug in a few things especially a capture card etc... and there's a ton of issues... Had to switch to my ORIGIN laptop from 2017 that has desktop parts in it while I'm in-between houses with all my Desktop computers currently stored in a POD down in Florida until I move into a house here in New York...
Yes the port is definitely weak and underpowered and the cable is a cheap ass cable lol
Mine stopped reading the usb and took me directly to the mvsx library instead of giving me the two options to launch mvsx or hylox. Gonna give this a try. I really want to play bomber man sooo bad right now 😂😅

That usb cable inside the unit is pretty cheap. My USB port wasn’t working from day 1 so I opened the unit and did this as soon as I got HyloX. Honestly it’s a lot cleaner having the usb inside the unit. You don’t have to worry about bending it against the wall of something.
Very true! Push the cabinet too far back and you can damage that entire hub

Pdubs, I am *this close* to pulling the trigger on this cab and it’s thanks to your excellent content like this vid. I’m still a little confused though about the hack: can you use a Mac to set it up? And, can you still have access to settings for each game like you do on the games that ship with the cab? Don’t stop pumping out these amazing videos!!!
I am not a Mac user so I have no experience, I set it up via PC no issues. Yes when you start the system you can choose to launch MVSX which is the default 50 games and all features or launch your hack instead.
@@PDubsArcadeLoft thx man. What I meant was, when running on the HyloX side of the two launch options, do you still have access to the dip switch type settings on the HyloX side as you do on the MVSX side (difficulty, blood, lives, etc)? Thx again. This is a pricey purchase this time of year but this HyloX option may be the kicker.

Appreciate the video. Unfortunately mine launches when it feels like it regardless of the stick plugged in at the hib or at the board. Tried 4 different brand sticks. Formatted xfat and fat 32, redownloaded and setup imsge over and over. Im stumped. Most of the time startup one fails, but startup usually launches without a problem its really strange
Sounds like a bad image if you tried 4 different brand USB sticks.
I would try another but it's the only one I can find. It's from the app everyone says to pull from and from what I can see it's the "official" one. Found other people with the same issue on reddit but no one seems to found a solution. If I can find another image I'll try it

You know if i can play "hack rooms" like "king of fighters 2002 magic plus" & "King of fighters 2004 special edition" on "MvSx arcade"??, I just see the 148 games, but I don't see anybody having the "hack rooms" from "king of fighters", "metal slug", "samurai showdown", etc

lol you can hotswap whatever games you want - all the files are on the usb stick
i just plug it in directly and dont use the exterior hub- there is a compatibility list floating around somewhere of which sticks work best

Question- can you just copy the contents of the drive to a new one and have it read without issue? I have 2 cabs I got cheap and want to just copy the thumbdrive instead of making it from scratch. Thanks!

So I’ve managed to get hylo x and fbe capcom one installed and they show up on the main menu . But whenever I click on any of them the thing crashes . And I plugged it directly into the usb in the back like you said and it recognizes the usb enough to do the updates but not launch the games
Very weird. Don't know where you got your build. I would re-download and copy over your files and try again.

@@rufiohaspan it just sounds like the game files are either misnamed or corrupted, etc. Try and start with a fresh build - it's a very easy hack that you just drag and drop onto a USB it's not a time consuming thing like a Pi so starting over shouldn't be too much of a bother.

@@PDubsArcadeLoft that’s okay, I’ve come to realize that’s a hard one for them to emulate, I’m happy x men vs street fighter and the original mvc was on there.
This is why i don't like these Arcade1up or MVSX systems.
They are definitely built with the cheapest of materials they can find, and then they want to charge an arm and a leg for them.
