Great channel Rachel and I love all the nano fish in the fish room!
I love the brigittae but I started losing some in my nano fluval spec a few weeks ago. I couldn't figure out why they suddenly went missing; they weren't on the floor, in the filter (they got back there numerous times before I learned to block it up with filter floss), and they weren't a'floatin. Doing a re-scape of some plants and a TERRIFYING bug came out of the substrate. A (quickly squished) dragonfly larvae is what it was and I am fairly sure that it he was the culprit. It was certainly big enough and I'm almost certain I've heard David Attenborough mention at some point that they eat small fish and fry in the wild. I assume it came in on some plants as an egg or a small larva. Lesson learned for me for all the super small fishes and shrimps going forward :(((
lol on the screen of my phone they end up looking to scale with real life
wow great job there on your video keep up the great work there on your video
Just found a baby one in my tank. My first egg layer success.
awesome!
@@RachelOLeary hey Rachel, are they as red as they appear on camera ? I have had them for 6 months now, they don't seem red at all. They look pale orange. Do you use RGB to make it look redder?
@@animegod1714 They get miss sold alot. You could have phoenix's rather than chili
Love thee little guys! I like the Galaxy too, but these are vibrant!
Hey Rachel. Just ordered 30 of these for my 47 gallon Nano Tank. But maybe I was rushing to get them too fast. Please tell me that they are fast. Because I already have 20 Dwarf Indian Pufffers in there. Alot of plants though... So ton of hiding places.
I have a lot of filtration. Eheim 4+ Professionel 600. But they send 2 pounds of ceramic and a lot of plastic that I hate. So I pack them with 5 pounds of ceramic, use the really fine intake sponge and the spray bar. So the stream is not going to be to strong. I just felt like it would look amazing against my green plants and black gravel, black background. But maybe chili rasbora is in danger of the Dwarf Puffers? But I also have 6 Panda Corydoras in there, and as long as you keep your Dwarf Puffers well fed. I don't see the angry issue that alot of people say about them. Tell me the truth. I am a big boy, I can take it. They are coming in 7 days.
One of my all time favourite fish which I have always kept. This video is what got me into finding you and I have since seen you in other people I subscribe to. Great video ad will follow keenly on your nano fish. Hope to hear you have more luck on breeding as I want to try it myself!
So, are these among the smallest fish you can get? Do you know of anything smaller? I'm looking to stock a 10 gallon, but I want tiny tiny fish for it.
micro glass fish might be smaller
Got my first Rasboras today! So in love! Absolutely adorable. Another great video!
I purchased the last 11 of these fish a few days ago at a fish store about an hour away from me. They are adorable and definitely not shy. I'm planning on getting a few more. Loved this video❤️
Would these be ok with ember tetras?
Yes
How much in a tank of 30l? And which species to add?
Strawberry rasbora, should have added that, it's their common name.
grabbed 20 of these today!! absolutely love their little faces! my school of sundadanio axelrodi are wondering who in the hell these red guys are... lol i've now got a gang set up in my tank.. red vs blue... bloods vs crypts... haha. too funny.
ha!!
Rachel O'leary, can Chilli Boraras be kept with Guppies and Cardinal Tetras?
+King K yes
Rachel O'leary, I have 7 Guppies and 13 Cardinal Tetras in a 110l tank. How many Chili Boraras would you suggest I keep in with them?
How are they doing in your tank?
Hi Rachel - no idea if you'll see this, but do you have any recommendations for fish that would get on well with chilli rasboras? I tried them with green neon rasboras (microdevario kubotai) and the green neons harassed them relentlessly, even though they left the cherry shrimp alone. Are chillis happiest by themselves or are there some other tankmates I could try them with?
i really like them with Petruichthys rosy (rosy loach)
What do their eggs look like I think I have some!?
Are you into Pea puffer? I would enjoy a species Spotlight!
Do you keep any KilliFish? I find them very interesting but don't find anyone raising them, There are very beautiful species but the local Fish store won't have em...
Awesome fish, Chili Rasbora. I have about 20 Phoenix Rasbora. The Chili Rasbora look just like the Phoenix in my opinion. I think the Chili has more red on the body. Can you tell me the difference? Thanks.....great tank!
What species of shrimp is that sharing the tank? Bumblebee shrimp?
These guys do great with red cherry shrimps. Had them in a 20g long and my shrimps multipled just fine.
You should post a video, I want to do the same thing
I love these fish. They're extremely fun to watch, very spunky and curious and mine don't school until they're about to be fed; then they all school right in front, which is funny to watch. My tank is fully planted so each fish just goes about its day exploring. They are fed thawed baby brine shrimpp, which they love. And they have a veracious appetite so take care not to over feed, since they're also excellent scavengers. They do well with shrimp and other fish that are comparable in size as well.
I have some of them, and once left lid off when feeding a little guy jumped right out! I carefully loaded him onto a knife and put him back, and it's as if nothing happened. They are really a tough little fish.
More great information on an awesome little fish. I would love to see you do a species spotlight on the scarlet badis (dario dario).
I will for sure at some point
Can I put a dwarf honey gourami with a group of chili rasboras? Since the honey gourami is peaceful.
Yes
Rachel O'leary thank you!:) what tank size if I put 5-6 chili rasboras and 1 honey gourami? I have very limited tank space
Q: Why are some of my Chili Rasboras bright red and some of them are like very pale. Btw it's a new tank running for 3 days.
One of my favs as well!! Great one. :D
Hey Rachel, I’m looking for rasboras boraras and wonder if you think you can send some fishes for me to Brazil ou know some fish supplier that could do that. Thanks a lot.
Do you think a set of 8 would do well in a heavily planted 9 gallon Fluval Flex with one dwarf gourami?
Great vid. Please make a video on tips on getting these guys to spawn.
And also some videos on dario species such as dario dario and black tiger dario. Theres very little info out there on btd.
Im glad that detritus worm started to thrive in my tank, so I dont really bother to feed them. But most of the time I would feed them, just to look at them swimming outside of their hiding spots
Thank you for the video. For my nano tank I thought of a school of mosquito rasboras, 2 dario dario's and a school of corydoras hasbrosus. What do you think? Would they go well together?
can i keep it in my 5g tank with alots of shrimp fries and filteration is sponge filter?
I been thinking about getting those types of fish
Would hydra be dangerous to chili rasboras?
Stunning little fish! I wanted some of these, but went with Ember Tetras instead since my lfs had those in stock.
Im starting my first planter tank. Its a 5.5 gallon can I put chili rasboras in there? Will I be able to keep them happy and healthy? If so how many is a safe number?
9 would be a good number
Did you ever decide how many you got?
will 15 dgh be too much for these little ones?
Can I add 12 to my tank with my Enders
I just got some of these last week, and expected them to be much shyer than they are. They do tend to stick to one part of the tank, but have no issue with coming forward during feeding time. They get on very well with my endler (and blend in, so the hubby didn't notice when I got my first set...we'll see if he notices the next batch :P). When you start your store back up, will you be stocking them?
I just got some also. Cant wait til they get here!!
Can these fish live with Discus?
Hi, have you encountered egg bound female rasboras before? I have one that is pale, looks egg bound, and hangs around the filter. All other rasboras are ok and healthy. Thanks for any help!
Can they be housed with celestial pearl danios...btw what do celestial pearl danios eat? Will they nibble on hair algae? I do have a Siamese algae eater in there with 6 of them to take care of the hair algae...but I want my little shy cpd's to come out more...i have a planted tank. With 2 Amazon swords, stauryne repens, and have fern.
+Kathleen Monsegue they are fine with cpd. Cod don't eat any algae
your audio sounds so much better Rachel! way to go. I used to have a HiTech co2 fully planted 55g with 100 chili's and 6 cpds
+RICKZTAH hell yeah! i have 25 and I though I had it good ;)
FO4 character creation.
I miss your videos! 😭
Are these a schooling fish? I'm looking for a smaller fish that will school to put into a new tank I'm cycling.
+Brian's Fish Tanks Yup and once settled their colours will come up great. I love em and have about 20 now. But be careful with bigger more boisterous tank mates as they will shy otherwise and I find won't get in the thick of it when the feeding frenzy begins
Do you need a heater?
My next fish!
How would these do with pearl gourami?
Yea ... they would make a great food for them. The narrow body makes it a perfect snack for the Pearl Gourami.
clean water first
how many of these chili rasboras could I put in a 15gallon (60litre) - 60cm width x 30cm depth x 34cm height? suggestions on what else I could put in the tank aswell? Thanks in Advance. great video aswell Rachel :)
You could get like 6 or 7 in a 15 gallon i have 4 in a ten gallon and they thrive
60l if filtered via good external canister filter, with say about 500l per hr turnover will easily manage 10 along with about 6 other tiny fish. If not just stick to 6 - 7 as suggested by Christian. Be warned these guys are tiny, so any filter strainer intake, or rear filter divide strainer intake needs to be sponge prefiltered.
Ma sha Allah...
Very nice!
I'd like a video on danio erythromicron if you ever get the chance.
+Bradford Aquatics (Riley Bradford) I'd like to know more, too. I have a bunch of them sharing a tank with neon tetras. They were kind of shy at first, but once the plants grew thick enough that they could reach a hiding place quickly, they grew bolder. You really have to get close to make out their color patterns, but once you do, they are beautiful fish.
Love my chili's. 10" cube with 5 chilis, 2 clownkillies and a pair of female cherrys.
I just dropped my 1st 10 chilis in with 2 snp corys and 4 lambchop rasboras that ive had for a year. My plan was to drop a couple chilis into each of my shrimp tanks as dworm-control, but now, im going to try to breed them. Thank you for this video and all your videos.
They aren't too shy, but I noticed they hate changes. In my tank they did well with Neon Tetras & some Otocinclus. The moment I put in this tank a school of Mcrodevario Kubotai and temporarily one Ramirezi male - the Boraras totally hid in the Limnophila leaves, and they swim out only to eat. I wonder if they are afraid of that Ramirezi, or if Kubotai make them shy...
they remind me of endlers
Hi Rachel, I need your help.
I bought 10 or 12 Phoenix Rasbora (Boraras merah) about 2 months ago and bought 10 Chilli Rasbors about a month ago.
But they are dieing on by one.Now I only have 5 or 6 of them.
I kept them with some celestial pearl danios, Ember tetras and some shrimps. There were also some planarias too .Tank was a well planted setup and with tan water (Indian Almond Leaves) .
I fed them Hikari first bites and Hikari micro pallets.
About a week ago I put them in to a another tank and medicating with prazi gold(praziquantel),eritromicin and metronidazole. The dose is half the amount of recommended dose. But I did not add any Indian almond leaves.
I started feeding them baby brine shrimps about a week ago as I thought food might be the cause of their death. Most of them behave just fine now except for a fish.
They all had same behavior before their death. Every dead fish swam near to the surface of the water about 24 hours ago before dieing.
What might me the cause for death of them.Do you have any experience like this.I found out this isn't happening just for me.Some people have mentioned this exact problem in several forums. But no one seems to know the exact cause their dieing.
How do you keep these guys.Do you give them any specific water parameters.
I have a doubt about Indian almond leaves and planaria.
What would be their behavior in a 49 gal? Want to have around 100 of them. Do they stick close together? Do they move around or stay in one place
Are blackworms too big for them? I planned on having a culture of them going as well, for a live food source.
Oh man... I was looking for a Boraras uropthalmoides and I happened to land on some of these fish... I tell ya... Beautiful fishies! Bought these instead! Love em! Bought 6 and man... They school real close together! Some of my red cherries are bigger than than of the fish... Not shy at all.... Thank you for the advise!!!
TY a lot Rachel for all the info, especially for mentioning if they can go with Betta fish, cos I'm in Betta fish, but like them to have nice company...it wood be grate if you wood show Betta dedicated chapter,to inform us about all possible neighbors they can have....especially all the good ones for planted tanks, what wood help it keep it clean, from algae and food rests....what corydoras are ok,or what pleco? Cos I don't know a lot about fish and tanks, just enough to keep my Bettas alive and well...need to get something for algae eater but don't know, what to get, what corydoras or shrimp can live with them...TY a lot for all videos, all info...Keep up the good work ;)
I think I’ll get these guys for my 4 gallon planted, about 7-6 of them with some micro crabs or some cherry shrimps
They're all so cute, but I have to admit, it's Boraras naevus that has captured my fancy. Not quite so red but pretty easy to sex which is handy.
Hi Rachel..I was wondering they ill eat the baby shrmips? I have them in my aquarium and I belevue I saw hat one of the Chili Rasbora took the baby shrim.. but it happened so fast that I am not sure if the baby shrim got away.. Regards from Norway :)
From "Mark's Aquatics" and some other sources I heard that they are continuous spawners and that they only drop a few eggs per day. They also need really low Ph, especially for the eggs to hatch and the fry to survive. All of that predisposes them for meager "output", I guess. But there are frequent reports of fry hatching in community/non-breeding tanks, so it shouldn't be all that difficult to optimize.
I purchased 20 of these not even 2 months ago to keep in my 10g.planted tank. I love them. They are still maturing and coloring up. I also have new blue dreams too in the tank with my first berried shrimp. Crossing my fingers I'll have more babies surviving then being a snack. (Tank has a lot of microorganisms, bio film, some botanicals, and a little Christmas Moss in a couple of rocks. I've been watching several species spotlight video's tonight for I'm considering getting more nano fish in my 10g now. Might get cpd's again. Had them in the past.
Love your channel and i just subscribed! I have a question for anyone to answer. Will theae be compatable around mexican dwarf crayfish?
What is the ideal temperature for a chili rasbora and red crystal tank?
Hi Rachel, How do you think the chilies would do with my Moonlight Gourami?
My fav are the boraras urophthalmoides 😍 But your boraras brigittae are cute too. Awesome vids! I am a new subbie 😁👍
Would they fit into an aquarium with some guppies? Or are those to big for them?
Hi, great video! i have 15 rasbora in aquarium some of them are pregnant. There are egg sacks between small river rocks and on the side of the glass. I'm not sure if they are snail eggs or fish eggs. They are white dots and a clear invisible cover around them. I saw them 1-2 days ago and non of them hatched. Please help!
Those sound like snail eggs (if there are more than one dot in the clear casing)
in a egg sack, there are white dots but only a big casing for all of them are they snail eggs?
+Steven Wang yes
thank you ... I have at least 7 egg sacks of snail eggs!!! noo... i thought they are fish eggs...
Can I keep these in a 5.5 gal? If so how many? Also can I keep shrimp with them?
Love these tiny Rasboras. I bought 24 from my local pet store and to my amazement, there was a baby swimming amongst the group. I have two left from my original school. can you please tell me your website because I am interested in buying more.
Awesome Rachel! I just found the species for my Asian Blackwater setup. My young Betta Channoides are the focal point of this tank. These Brigittae should put the action in this tank...
Absolutely!
What do you think of zebra fish there are some good types like the long fin albino here in the U.K. I keep them with whitecloud albino
Hi Rachel, do you still have these and do you breed to sell them?
How many of these i can stock in my 24"x12"x12" tank
would these be a good tank mate for a betta fish in a planted 5 gallon? or they are too small? would the CPD work better?
Can we buy these chili Rasboras from you?
Are they a very shy fish. Mine stay back.all the time. 3wks in tank
Is it true that they are shrimp safe ?
not speaking for pure shrimp breeding but a mix planted tank of fish and shrimp.
+Niick Nicholas they will eat some newly hatched shrimplets, but are on eof the best for a community shrimp and fish tank
Do you have any information or videos on Long fin blue Rams?
Hello Rachel thanks for this. I have about 15 that seem very happy. I'd love to breed them and looking out for tips. Would you please share with us some breeding tips ? Thanks so much
Picked up 4 of em today for a ten gallon i had sitting around
hello Rachel do these fish attack shrimps are they shrimp safe
I love your style :) Can i purchase Chili rasbora from you?
Will they be ok with a Beta?
The answer is sometimes.
The Chili Rasbora's are absolutely beautiful
OMG I was just looking at chili Rasbora to buy. Thanks for the info.
Do you happened to have this in stock?
Would I be able to successfully keep these with Panda Cories?
Edit: would these also be able to be successfully kept with Ember Tetras?
yes to both
Great vid, thinking about a shoal of these. Thank you.
Will a Rainbow shark eat them?
It’s cold in there. Lol
Can you Pls do one on peacock gudgeons
I would like to hear something about fishes for the buttom...corys, aspidoras etc. - maybe Corydoras habrosus?
Can do!
Great video. Subscribed.
Another great video Rachael. I love the look of this little fish. Would a big school of these do ok with a smaller school of lamb chops? I think they would look great together.
Absolutely. They do fine together
