Not many Serbian people have heard of Belmuz. The dish comes from small place called Svrljig, some 25km away from Nis. It is prepared in the following manner: certain type of hardened white cheese (usual for Svrljig area) is put in a large empty pot and dry boiled while constantly mixing. After some time the cheese becomes soft and gooey and starts releasing some liquid (mixture of residual water and some milk proteins). When the liquid is released, the fine ground corn flour is being added slowly to absorb the said liquid and thicken the mixture. All this should be done without stopping the mixing even for a single second, and the process can last for couple of hours. Preparation is done when no residual liquid is left and the mixture becomes homogeneous.
Ja sam iz zapadne Srbije i jeo sam belmuz jos kao klinac, tacnije 1982 godine. Nije striktno Svrljig mesto odakle dolazi belmuz vec cela Stara Planina.
You are right. Don't think I ever has the pleasure to try it. Like I don't eve know it exists, so I could never order it. Thanks for writing that. Now I know, and it sounds delicious :)
You two are adorable. So much genuine enthusiasm for our food...I am speechless. Thank you for recognizing the essential characteristics of Serbia: good food and simple, hospitable people. And, yes, I really liked the reaction of your mom, who has never been to Serbia, she tasted industrialized food from this area, and even she was delighted. :)
It's not just about GMOs. When we talk about the quality of meat, in the first place we have to think about the way animals are raised, about the way they are fed. In Serbia, although there is modern livestock breeding, the so-called intensive farming, it is still based on the tradition of extensive farming and the healthiest possible nutrition of animals. And then the meat is as it should be. Quality and delicious.
Animal nutrition must be based on natural food: on grass, hay, corn... By no means on artificial diets or concentrates. Then the meat has a real taste, the taste of meat.
Great video guys, Nis in Serbia is the capital of great restaurants, and the south - south/east of Serbia especially when it comes to Serbian grill. "Mrak" is a well known local tavern and there you can't go wrong. Before they had the best lamb burgers.
South Serbia, Niš and Leskovac especially, are known capitals of barbiqued meat and extraordinary traditional dishes :) As you noticed, you were giving 5-stars, and not so rare even 6-stars to food in Belgrade, but that is, literary, 7-star food :) the level of bliss you can find only there :))))
I hope you didn't regret listening to our recommendations. And I hope that you're leaving Niš with impressions that Niš is FOOD CAPITAL OF SERBIA. Come back soon.
Thank you for saying all nice things for our food. We appreciate it. As locals we tend to be proud of our BBQ :). Thank you for publicly settling our vanities 😊. I hope you had great time in Serbia. You are most welcome to visit Serbia again. For some also great Roštilj, I recommend my hometown Leskovac, 40 km South from Niš. Best regards guys 👋👋.
In my opinion, "KOD BIBCA" in Leskovac is an excellent pljeskavica, and very affordable, the best in the country when you consider the price and quality.
Thank you for your beautiful video where you present my hometown and the food in a wonderful way. I hope you enjoy your Serbia trip and I wish you a lot of fun. You show how the real hospitality in Serbia is without any prejudice.Thank you for that and I wish you all a wonderful time in Serbia.

Those rolls are pork loin stuffed with cheese and Canadian bacon it’s not chicken. 😂 and they are delicious. And I’m happy that you visited Serbia and kafana mrak especially. Thank you guys
In my experience in Serbia, you have to dodge the fancy-looking places which cater to tourists and ask several of the locals where the good food is until you start hearing the same recommendation repeated multiple times. It'll usually be a little worn-down dump of a place well away from the town center, and it'll be absurdly cheap, but it'll have the kind of food that'll have you unbuttoning your pants to make more room. I went to Zlatibor for ten days and the best meal I had there was from a kiosk at the Uzice bus station. I kid you not. Zlatibor has some beautiful nature but the town is all about tourism, to its detriment. The bus station kiosk in Uzice caters to ordinary locals, and I got the feeling that it wasn't even especially good, just up to the locals' standards. And it beat every shiny restaurant in Zlatibor hands down. I for one have learnt my lesson. Eat where the locals eat, and go with traditional Serbian food over other cuisines.
True, true :) tourists have a lot wishes, cooks, owners are trying to honour, and at the end it totally changes the food, its taste, essence of it. Soul, that made it good, gets lost along the way. Like with everything else. Once you start moulding something towards others wishes, especially people that just have an idea of what something should be(taste like), it will be left as an empty shell, just resembling the original, and those reasons you liked it in a first place. Same goes for everything else, and people's need to change, fix things that need no fixing. Why small kafana's are better. Owners, cooks, their friends, locals eat there, and don't care much about the PR, how it looks inside, is it all shiny, new, and how tourists are going to review them. They're doing it for small circle of people, used to original foods taste, atmosphere, no one will complain about the noise, laud speaking, laughter, smoking, smell of alcohol, no gloves making cevapi, pljeskavica(It's really hard to make it with) ect ect, so the food, soul of a place will remain the same, the main thing people like about those small places. All they need is a place where food can be prepared, cooked, and satisfied costumers. Just like homemade, grannies food is always the best. She loves to cook, and gets satisfaction from people eating her food, liking it :) it's the same with small kafana's, food places
Great video, one of the best! :D Now you would believe me if I told you that here in Vojvodina we have the best dried sausage and "Kulen" in the world, the taste is just unbelievable, it's literary like a drug, restaurants rarely have it, you can rather find it home made :)
Serbia has food, at least in terms of taste, among the top 5 best in the world. This quality of food, vegetables, meat, grains can hardly be found anywhere else in the world. The only question is how healthy such food is, because Serbian cuisine contains a lot of meat and is quite fatty, but it has always been the case that unhealthy is what pleases a person. Or that it is illegal🙂
It's clean, unprocessed, fresh food, right from the local producers and farms, so it's absolutely healthy, you can enjoy it as locals do, with usual 3 courses, starter, soup, salads, main course, desert or fruits, everything in moderation. P.S. Meal like in Mrak, we do not eat each day, perhaps few times in a week, and also we are fasting two days in a week traditionally, Wednesday and Friday, plus seasonal fasts, if someone doesn't fast, which is often, we have home cooking culture instead, where diverse and balanced meals are traditional thing.
Altough, kafana Mrak is remarkable, you've actually missed the real Niš food experience. There are at least 3-5 places which are above Mrak. Let's say that internet reviews will bring you to the fancy side, but hidden spots are hidden spots and those are off the internet charts. So, if you ever come again - Brka(at Jelasnica near Nis), Nislijska mehana and Dagi. List can go on. And you had to try something like beef tail. It's like outbody, another dimension, food experience.
Hi guys 🥰👋 I’m in aww....you have not forgotten our wonderful multicultural Malaysian delicacies 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 these Serbian food sure look scrumptious and best part is that the food are really clean and healthy , wow the prices were reasonable too 👍🏻 thanks guys for introducing to Serbian food which I have zero knowledge about , hope you both enjoyed the meal and have a great day 😘🥰

You are right. In Serbia, GMO is forbidden by law. This is one of the benefits of not being a member of EU. Of course, you always get some people who are after quick profit. Hopefully, I will visit City of Nish and its best kafana Mrak.
I was expecting this type of the content since I saw previous video from Niš. Well done. And you can enjoy many more restaurants in Niš with very reasonable price range. Some of them are: Dagi +, Brka in Jelasnica, Dva Jarana etc. however, have a great time in Niš and spread the word around the glob about Niš and Serbs. :)

@@JetLagWarriors And it's important to go to the original Anton bakery, not Anton plus in the city center. Keep that in mind because the older one has some kind of energy to it. Have a great time, živeli! 😄❤️
@@JetLagWarriors And you must try Burek also, Niš has the best Burek with cheese and meat in the world, Pekara Brankovic and Pekara Anton are the best, and with burek you must drink yoghurt and all that with fingers folks...

I don't think you can beat family run establishments, it's not just the name of the restaurant that is at stake but the name of the family. The food looked amazing. Grilled meat, and preserved meat, like hams and salami's, along with cheeses are also excellent in Slovenia, but those combinations with cheese and ham are the next level. A few hours walking will be required after this delicious feast. "The best restaurant ever" coming from Ivana, now that's a recommendation. We will have to have a visit ourselves.
@@JetLagWarriors Yes Sorry, I really do love Slovenia and it's people. I hope you get to visit one day too. Sure you will enjoy it. I have missed it these last two years through one thing and another. It's a very small country with a big heart and fantastic people. Your vidoes in Serbia have reminded me of it such a lot. Snowing there at the moment, I always watch the webcams. Hopefuly you get to visit my Wife's home state of Sarawak in Malaysia too. We were both hoping to spend more time there too now that we have retired from work, but again our plans have had to be changed.

You look to mi like a nice couple that enjoys good food and brandy like I do . Let me give you a tip. You can buy Serbian mixed cognac - 10 - 20 y matured, for as much as 70$ - its called Vinjak XO. The thing about it is that it has matured in special barrels of oak tree that only exist in Serbia, and it used to be the most favorite drink in whole Yugoslavia. It's officially the best brandy of Serbia. p.s. don't try the common bottle. Its not matured enough. Go for the XO.

Next time try the kafana Orač in Nis!
M'sia miss you so much ! You should hav your own FOOD VLOG. Bravo !
Ahhh man that looks so tasty!!!
So true! :)
Aaaaaah, finally you realized where exactly You are. Enjoy!!!
Thanks!
Yes, yes , my brotha! Our food is so delicious. 😁
Great video, one of the best! :D Now you would believe me if I told you that here in Vojvodina we have the best dried sausage and "Kulen" in the world, the taste is just unbelievable, it's literary like a drug, restaurants rarely have it, you can rather find it home made :)
Kulen is excellent. Pirot sausage is great too 👑
Oh gosh, now we want to try it!! Home made food that is the best in the world? Sign me up!
Hope you come again and get to know our tradition, history, religion and people .For you seven stars from Serbia
Wow, what a spread!!!😋😋😋 Bon appetit Steve & Ivana!!!
Thanks Fahmida!❤️
Altough, kafana Mrak is remarkable, you've actually missed the real Niš food experience. There are at least 3-5 places which are above Mrak. Let's say that internet reviews will bring you to the fancy side, but hidden spots are hidden spots and those are off the internet charts. So, if you ever come again - Brka(at Jelasnica near Nis), Nislijska mehana and Dagi. List can go on. And you had to try something like beef tail. It's like outbody, another dimension, food experience.
you have come to the country where there is sun, land and water in the best combination. Such food is the best in the world
You all make me hungry once more again! 🤣🤣

Good video 👌👌👌
You are right. In Serbia, GMO is forbidden by law. This is one of the benefits of not being a member of EU.
Of course, you always get some people who are after quick profit.
Hopefully, I will visit City of Nish and its best kafana Mrak.
I was expecting this type of the content since I saw previous video from Niš. Well done. And you can enjoy many more restaurants in Niš with very reasonable price range. Some of them are: Dagi +, Brka in Jelasnica, Dva Jarana etc. however, have a great time in Niš and spread the word around the glob about Niš and Serbs. :)
Meze, Nislijska mehana, Tri fenjera.
some people claim that steak is better in Orac. didn't try it, I'm lamb fan :)
and M^J - pork chops. not to miss
Thank you. We certainly love the food here
Guys while you are in Niš go try ANTON burek but early in the morning when it's hot. It's by far the best burek in the world. We call it the melting burek!!! ❤️❤️🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸❤️❤️
Definitely the best burek in the world 👑 🇷🇸
Stay tuned for our next video😉
@@JetLagWarriors And it's important to go to the original Anton bakery, not Anton plus in the city center. Keep that in mind because the older one has some kind of energy to it. Have a great time, živeli! 😄❤️
@@aleksastankovic7380 yes, agree. This one ua-cam.com/video/UmAz1_zspBw/v-deo.html

Welcome
We wish you a very happy and healthy life and enjoy in our country our food and come again.
Hope we will make it to Slovenia one day. Heard a lot about it from you actually😊👍 Thank you
@@JetLagWarriors Yes Sorry, I really do love Slovenia and it's people.
You must try the cakes at l'amoure Family in Nis are located in
Obrenovićeva Street
Definitely a great pastry shop with a beautiful ambience and great cakes in the center of Nis 👌👍🍩🍭🍮🍯🍫🍬🍨🍦🍡🍥🍤🍣🍢🎂🍰
ah we are now in Novi Pazar! Maybe if we come back. Thanks😊
You must try burek with chease at Anton bakery... Its pure art.
We just had this a few days ago!! The video comes out in a few days. Stay tuned!! Spoiler: we absolutely loved the burek and went back the next day for more :)
Best cheese burek in history, end of story.
