The St Ola here is the last of four ships which had that name serving the link from Scrabster (Scotland) to Stromness (Orkney) run by P&O Ferries. The first three St Ola were purpose built for the route across the Pentland Firth. P&O knew they were not likely to get the contract for the route when it was due in 2003 so they bought the vessel above and changed her name to St Ola which has gone with her to the present day but the St Ola name originates from the original Scottish service to Orkney.
St. Ola (IV), previously Svea Scarlett then Eckero, was on the Scrabster - Stromness route between March 1992 and September 2002, after which she was replaced by the purpose-built ferry Hamnavoe, which still serves on the route today, under new operators Northlink Ferries.
I recall being violently seasick as a 6 year old travelling on the P&O St Ola in 1987 when my family moved to Orkney. Was that a previous St Ola to this one?
