"Let The Bad Times Roll" Lyrics:
    We’re gonna hang ‘em high
We’re gonna shoot straight up in the air
This eye is for an eye
Don’t need to ask and don’t need to care
But don’t be thinking we’re crazy
When you see all the hell that we’re raising
    Don’t be thinking we’re crazy
Cause the truth is what we’re erasing
    And so I
I’m doing it all for you
I’m doing it all for you
Oh baby let the bad times roll
    Machiavelli flow
Hey Lincoln, how does your grave roll?
Take what’s right and make it wrong
Make it up as I go along
Let me know when you decide
    Apathy or suicide
Oh baby let the bad times roll
Now it was all a lie
But that bitch won’t get in my way
Keep shoutin’ what I like - lock her up lock her up
Now that’s a good one I gotta say
But don’t be thinking we’re crazy
When you see all the hell that we’re raising
    Don’t be thinking we’re crazy
Cause the truth is what we’re erasing
    And so I
I’m turning my back on you
I’m turning my back on you
Oh baby let the bad times roll
    On a stripper pole
Ya fuck it let the bad times roll
    Mexicans and blacks and Jews
Got it all figured out for you
Gonna build a wall let you decide
    Apathy or suicide
Oh baby let the bad times roll

I give The Offspring a lot of credit for not trying to change their sound in the 3 + decades they've been making music. Each time they come out with a new song it's like visiting with an old friend you haven't seen in years and picking up right where you left off with them.

I wouldn't say 3+ decades. They were a really good punk band still on '98 even though on Americana showing first time the sound they have had since. But Conspiracy Of One was the first album really with this sound, and clearly with no doubt the last good album they have made. Might that mean it was not the correct direction, yes indeed that is what it means, did they understand that, not at all. Strange & dumb IMHO.

People who listen to the whole albums know there will be a variety. Like always. They're starting with sarcasm & current events- that's okay. They are one of like 3 bands from the California punk scene that helped make punk rock popular in the late 80s early 90s. And they did have a distinct sound that fit well with 90s alt/radio rock. So they are definitely a part of pop culture of the 90s. But like green day, I call it punk rock. Because it is punk. @thetruerift Do you really think his voice was better on Jennifer Lost The War?? It hurts to admit this but that whole debut album was unlistenable to me for the longest time because of how raw and unpolished is voice and the rest of the music was.
But that's fine because old school punk doesn't need perfect singing.
From Ignition to Ixnay his voice is much better at melody but it's still raw and unpolished.
Americana is the first album where you start to hear him become very polished and precise with his singing, and I personally like that style much better than the raw, unpolished yelling and scatting from the albums before.
Then he improved even MORE on Rise and Fall Rage And Grace, and every album and song since then. He's a polished, precise, controlled MACHINE with his singing now. Listen to songs like a Lot Like Me, or All I Have Left Is You. There's no way he sang better than that on any of the first 4 albums.
I disagree with both of you. He doesn't sound the same the whole career, but he also hasn't gotten worse, he's gotten way better.

There's three kinds of punks. The first kind dies young. The second kind "grows out of it", turns their back on the ideal as they grow up and life gets in the way.
Then there's the third kind, which looks like the second one on the outside... but under the wrapper, they remember there were good reasons they were young, angry punks. And they never forget.
