Superstition Guitar Lesson (Stevie Ray Vaughan)
Over the years of being at countless jam sessions and sitting in at shows. I’ve noticed that “Superstition” is a song a lot of groups play.
In fact, it’s a universal jamming song here in Los Angeles.
One of the great things about this funky tune is the main part of the song is just a groove over ONE chord.
Today I’ve got a brand new lesson for you on how to play the version as recorded by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Now on Stevie Ray Vaughan’s version, he tunes his guitar down one-half step.
Which I do in the lesson to match him.
    But…
I also want to let you in on a secret hack I’ve developed after being on stage many times and having to play this song.
I created a sneaky and UNIQUE tuning for it.
This totally original tuning allows you to play the riff and get a really full sound. Without having to retune your whole guitar down one-half step.
    Why?
Well, tuning down all the strings on stage in between songs is a pain…
So this hack is a lifesaver…
I developed it after years of playing “Superstition” onstage and at jam sessions. And it WORKS!
I reveal it, plus EXACTLY how you can jam this funky bluesy groove too.

I can't play anything. I might be the least musically coordinated person ever. If you can teach me I'll recommend you to everyone. I took lessons when I was a teen. My music instructor literally cried I was so bad.

Great lesson Jon thank you for teaching us how to play this song the way SRV recorded it in Eb the way it should be taught. You are a great teacher I appreciate you taking the time to teach us so many great songs and lessons!

That sure is a groovy looking Strat with the overly dark fretboard & mint green pick guard. & for those of you who want to go into Guitar Center kinda sounding like John Mayer, I mean SRV, have at it man!

Can somebody that doesn't have any artistic music ability learn to play a little bit? I've tried and failed, it's very frustrating and depressing.

Of course you can learn to play a little bit. But you may care not to start, with something like this!

Good lesson but it would be better if you just used standard tuning and told everyone that Stevie normally plays it in Eb.

And where can we see your wizardry on the guitar?

    • @thomaskinne2357

Yeah, because it's so difficult to take a tuner & tune a half step down! It may be a good idea when teaching a particular song, to teach it in the key, it's played.

Two things one Stevie Ray Vaughan was not the original composer of the song that was Stevie Wonder and two you sound nothing like Stevie Ray he did it far better than you do.
