@@MechanicalFrog AGREED! There's no "middle ground" in a Locust or any other light mech. Those pilot's will find out if their skills pass muster for any given combat situation rather quickly.

Fast. Tons of point-blank damage. No ammo. Heat neutral. Inexpensive. Ideally configured for its intended purpose, with no unnecessary attempts at doing anything else "a bit". The engineers that designed this should have made the Shadow Hawk, because that's the _opposite_ of a Locust IIC.
My one rule of light (and to a lesser extent medium) 'mechs is that they must NOT carry ammo. You simply do not carry enough armor to make it worthwhile. Sure it is very hard to target a Locust when it is sprinting 9+ hexes per turn. But just one hit in the wrong spot by anything heavier than a medium laser or AC/5 pretty much spells the end (unless you ran out of ammo.) That's why I love Locust variants that concentrate totally on lasers. As long as you don't lose a leg, your 'mech can be shot to pieces and still be fighting. A good low-tech example is the Capellan's LCT-1E with two medium lasers and two small lasers. Heat build-up could become an issue, but this was usually handled by the mechwarriors making high-speed passing runs at their targets, firing all weapons, then looping around for another go while letting their heat bleed-off. Also, the clans need a clan Frog. I would totally support this becoming official lore.
Locust is my favorite light mech in MWO. I have it painted in a pirate theme. I've taken out tons of assault mechs from behind with it for being such a hard hitting speed demon flanking and scouting. I am also a welcome support mech to protect the flank of my assault friends from enemy mechs. Really a very fun mech that requires a lot of skill to pilot if you're into fast dog fights than standing across from each other and firing from cover.

Its sole weapon is an ER PPC, with 6 Jump Jets added. I nevertheless created a variant after watching this video. I used the standard Locust IIC as a base and upgraded the engine to an equivalent XL version, which freed up 4 tons, one of which was used to boost the Ferro-Fibrous armor to a max of 5 tons. In keeping with my usual method, the Locust IIC ISM adds in a partial-wing along with 6 jump jets, after dropping the 4 ER Small Lasers while retaining the Medium Pulse.
