J'aime bien ces reportages et la vision des gens dans leurs comparaisons des endroits qu'ils ont connu un oeil extérieur est la meilleure critique qui puisse exister 😁👍
Bonjour! Another excellent video. We are interested in safety and stability in our golden years, yet our grandchildren in eastern Oregon tug at our hearts. We will discover where we want to settle when we travel back there in the fall. Merci! Dean & Cindy
Hey neighbor, thanks for the kind words about my city of heart. I was raised there and still live in its surroundings. Been travelling afar but can’t depart although I’ve found many other places with similar and even higher quality of life. I’d be happy having small talks with you sometime, if you wish so, sharing impressions and experiences around a coffee or a pint.
Really like your vidios, great simple style and honest perspectives. I definitely have Grenoble on my list of cities to live in France. I'm planning my move to be around this time next year. Im semi retired and i don't drive anymore but love all the natural surroundings, and i have two dogs. Nantes I've visited this past summer and I like it very much. Also considering Amiens, Angers, Lille, Remms and maybe Montpelier ...which gets bonus free pubic transportation and pets allowed on trams! Thanks for your great information.
Never lived in Grenoble but I spent some times over there and I have to say I didn't find the city very attractive, I'm sure they had good reason to rate Grenoble like that but I really prefer cities like Bordeaux or Toulouse for instance. The best thing I can see with Grenoble is the proximity of the mountains, it's a good spot for paragliding and hiking and there may be a bit less pollution.
I like your way of analyzing, your criteria and your respect. It must not be easy to adapt to a foreign country, you have to be open-minded. I hope you won't be disappointed and I wish you the best! J’aime votre façon d’analyser, vos critères et votre respect. Il ne doit pas être facile de s’adapter à un pays étranger, il faut être ouvert d’esprit. J’espère que vous ne serez pas déçus et je vous souhaite le meilleur !
The Winter Olympics are awarded to the French Alps subject to financial aid from the state and the regions.I hope you will still be in Grenoble! There were Winter Olympics in Grenoble in 1968, you must already know that !
Can't say I know a lot about taxes, but overall, I haven't noticed our tax burden particularly higher than in the U.S. Our property taxes are lower (but we now live in an apt rather than a house like we did in the U.S.). Sales tax is of course higher (20%) but the overall prices on day to day items like groceries still seem lower. Income taxes, I haven't done the math but it hasn't been viscerally more.
Nice summary! I agree with everything you said. I recently moved to the Chartreuse. The main downsides to Grenoble are the summer heat in concreted areas in the valley bottom, the traffic and associated pollution and the crime, including organised drug crime. Everything else is great! Taxes are high in France though and it seems you are paying for a bloated state, a very young retirement age and a large percentage of the population who are unproductive, but that is a matter of personal opinion.
Thanks for watching. From our perspective, we wanted to be in a country that prioritized social spending and economic equality, even if it came with higher taxes and some bloat.
Hi, thanks for watching. Neither spoke french four years ago. They were ages 12 and 15 respectively. The younger one went to a public international school. The older one went to a private school called "American School." The younger one adjusted quickly and well. The older one was not learning any french, so we switched him to a french public school with a program for recent immigrants. Now he is back at a private school that likes a lot but it was a tough adjustment for him overall.
On safety, and as an American, it blew my mind that places in Switzerland, including big cities like Zurich, had items outside of some stores not locked up over night. That gave us an answer of how safe CH is, lol. I haven’t been to Grenoble, but most cities we’ve been in Europe have seemed very safe after SF Bay Area life. People said by the train station in Frankfurt, DE would be rough. lol, it was nothing compared to most of SF, CA.
Yep, fewer guns means fewer violent crimes. What's considered a dangerous city in europe is mild compared to what's considered a safe city in the U.S. Grenoble is sometimes called "Chicago Francais" because of its reputation for drug trafficing murders but the number of homicides in a year is what Chicago gets in a weekend. (I can't recall if I mentioned the nickname in the video).
@@adamsfamilyinfrance Lol, great nickname. On guns, I agree 100%. It's also more than just guns. Mental health crisis, drug use, etc. I can't believe how many times I've seen open hard drug use, needles being actively used, spoons, foil being heated up, crack (?) pipes, etc. in broad daylight. Once our little one started pointing/asking about it we moved. Next move might be Europe (ES), 2025 potentially. Very nice.

Yes, thank you. I'm writing from Moliets et Maa right now.
Ne le dis pas trop haut...On va bientôt plus pouvoir se loger dans notre beau pays....
@ilovemovies725 c'est bien vrai
SPIKEY!! What a lovely animal. I'm sure his mere presence adds to Grenoble's overall quality of life. (Looking good William.)

France is one of the most productive countries in the world with Japan which is not the case of the United States.
Nice video! How did your teenage kids adjusted to the school. Did they speak french before moving there?

LOL, the city of "Nuts" France is ranking #10 , you gotta help me there ! I'm French and i don't know that one ! Nice vid btw.
Yep ! I got the link for the study (proof that i watched till the end!) Nantes it was ! Nice to have 2 cities in the top ten worldwide.
Thank you for watching until the end!

Are you all planning to come and live in France?? Because the country may not be quite big enough to acommodate so many people...
❤😎👍👋
The Laingsburg gazette did a study and found Laingsburg Michigan to be the best place in the world. Nice video however.
Best in the world for what ?
GrenoBLE, not grenOBEL!!!
