I'd wouldn't want my electronics anywhere near cheap particleboard, but it looks fun. I'd swap the particleboard for oak, mahogany or teak. :) Such a small piece, you could probably get it out of offcuts.
you can make it less expensive buy using raspberry pi and a smaller screen. you would need to but a wifi shield.. I've an adruino on mine and run Linux. It is free as well as apps. You can download freeware for months.
