Kajiado youth demand jobs from soda ash company

  • A major standoff looms between Magadi residents in Kajiado and Magadi Tata chemicals company management over what the residents claim is infringement on their rights by the company which they say has been denying the locals employment opportunities. Locals claim they have not benefitted directly from the company which has been in existence for over 100 years.
    They say the company offers job opportunities to people from elsewhere and the few locals employed as casual labourers are unceremoniously fired when they try to champion the rights of the community. Agitated youth have been camping near the factory with myriad of grievances attracting the attention of the county government of Kajiado. In an attempt to avert a scuffle, Kajiado governor David Nkedianye held an emergency meeting with the company management to iron out the issues. He insists locals should be given equal opportunities by the company
