Great video, you can also use a spark plug ( has same threads) and it will thread right in, just knock the ceramic off, that is if they are facing the back of the head, and your not planning on using the hole.
Thank you so much! Out of All the videos I could find yours is the only one I could find that clarified the holes already being threaded! Time to get this puppy going again! Thanks again!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, I wasted alot of time reading up and researching this ....... If I had found your video I could have my project done 5 days ago.....
I have a 83 Ford 460 what is the crossover tube on the back of the motor from one head to the other then up to some other crap? Can I cap these off in the same manner? Where is that essential for whatever is above it?
Yeah that's the same pork but it goes from left-to-right with a t in the middle that goes through some canisters then back into the intake manifold between the distributor and the carburetor on my 83 Ford 460
That effin exhaust cross-over had me pulling the engine out 'cuz i did pay soo much on it without realizing that this exhaust pipe in the back of the head ate away some of the fuel rail hose. Got me purchasing new distributor, ignition module, ignition coil, crank sensor, PCM, torque converter, idl air valve, tps and fuel pump in my 1996 F150
Can anything be done to those heads to make them perform any better or is it better just to find a set of non emission heads ?trying to build my 302 on a tight social security budget .
A lot of it depends on what heads you have. But if on a tight budget you can usually dig up some late model GT 40 heads that are about as good as anything OEM ;) You can usually get a set from a Explorer j yard motor and then dump the short block as a way to get them for cheap if not almost free if you're lucky ;)
Stock ford heads are not generally very good performers the GT 40's are a pretty good upgrade as well as the early 351W heads other than that most of them were pretty average performers most guys that get real good HP numbers out of the 5.0 use aftermarket heads
The '85 E5AE head is the 1st head specifically designed for the roller cam so the roller lifters could be removed w/o removing the heads. They have a bigger combustion chamber (67-70cc) than the E7TE (62-65cc) but otherwise basically the same. If they need rebuilding, better to start w/ the much more common E7 which can be milled even smaller. I have E7's on my '85: ported, 1.9 & 1.6 valves & milled .025. With no other changes it dropped 6/10ths & gained 6mph in the quarter.

Your welcome
Air injection cross over. Smog pump is hooked up to this. The hole goes all the way through the head and had holes in each exhaust port
yea just block em off

Is it worth the effort to plug the passages that link the exhaust ports together to prevent scavenging issues?

What do you think about gt40p cylinder heads with a set of bassani equal length shorty headers and the bazzani exhaust¿¿¿
Gt40P is a pretty good head for SBF
what do you think of milling the factory heads? mine is an 85 5.0 carb.asp. is it worth it? what would you charge to rebuild it?
I wouldn't put any money into e7 heads myself. They flow like shit. Maybe a set of explorer gt40 or gt40p heads.
@@bryanroupe8646 An '85 Mustang didn't have E7 heads. "E7" means '87.

What is the little hole next to that for?
The bolt that holds the crossover tube in place.
Can't get the stupid tube off
I had that tube on a 351m, in my 74 Torino.
The 351M didn't come out until '75. '74 was the last year for the 351C.
what did these passages accomplish?
they were for the EGR system on the engine
What size are the plugs
They are called therm actor plugs not sure on the size summit has them
