This is by far the best tutorial! We moved to Hawaii, and struggled. After watching, my kiddo and I consistently catch waves in, minutes after watching
Thank you so much for this video! It’s hard watching the pro videos when you just buildin* up the courage to get into the water! You made it feel doable! Much appreciated.
Great video for beginners. I learned to bodyboard by accidentally riding my first wave from super far out! After feeling that super fun thrill, I just taught myself to do it over and over again. This video will help lots of people.
This is the same with me. I accidentally discovered what was taking me further. Trying not to get in anyone's way in a small area where life guards are watching is the difficult part.
I love this video so much. All the other vids are like here's how to be a pro in 5 seconds and I'm like dude how do I just stay on haha. This is the exact tutorial we all need. Legend
Nice video - you're totally right. I was learning my front down but it felt weird, but it worked. Now I know it was right, and a better place to position my MUCH bigger 45" board! Mahalo
I’m 245 catch waves on a 42.5 Science and I’m a Dadbod 44 year old 😂 love this video! My kids and I have great times on the water together and that’s what it’s really all about! Great video bud!
Just body boarded with my daughter for the first time today, and I was doing everything wrong….everything lol. Great tips and great video! Gonna try it out tomorrow. God bless
Very informative, fellow Dad-bro! Your video was not only more enjoyable to watch, but also easier for the extreme novice (my wife). You are much better at explaining how to boogie board than I am. Thanks brother! Gnarly 🤙🏽
Just got done with a Myrtle Beach getaway with my family of four (two sons) and made the mistake of not getting boards ahead of time, but found decent ones at a nearby Dicks Sporting Goods.. I wish I would have looked into it sooner, but was able to scope out a few guys who knew what they were doing (just like you showed) and finally got the hang of it! I thought it was self-explanatory (I’ve done plenty of skiing/wakeboarding/kneeboarding) but I was WRONG! lol.. I’m 41, but looking forward to next year when I can get out there with my boys and shred some waves! (AKA just ride waves is good enough)
I wanted a body board if I am ever able to go back to the beach. Funny you mentioned Dicks. I bought one from there. Then got studying at it. Even tho I am fairly light I found a 42" board at Academy Surplus somewhat pricey. So now I have two ready. Just want to make it happen one time.
Thank you very much, best video I’ve seen on boogie boarding, although our vacation is about over and as an older Dad first timer I did okay, this was good to know for next time...had a blast in Maui! Thanks!
#2 to help with YOUR TIMING if you are standing sideways, like a karate stance, you will feel the undertow on your legs, the strength will tell you if it’s a meh, good or great wave and also timing. It’s only a few seconds after you feel the pull and all the points you made on #2 is spot on.
This is great advice for if you just want to catch white water waves casual. I think that you will find the vids you were watching were actually about riding in a more advanced way and on clear water waves.
The waves aren't much as I'm in east England but I'm planning on going out for the first time tomorrow. This is the best video I've found. Thanks. I got a joke for you. Totally unrelated to yours but it made me laugh and groan. What do you call a cavemans fart? A blast from the past. I'm leaving now....👣
Loved the tutorial! You kept it simple and easy to understand. I loved the humor too! I got the second joke right🤣 thank you so much for sharing! I was wondering at about how deep into the water one should go to get good waves? Thanks again!
Yeah, pretty much covered all the key basics to get out there and ride a wave! Unfortunately, I had to learn the hardest way ( getting showed up by a bunch of 9-12 year old kids while I'm a middle aged dad lmao) but, I payed attention to what it was they were doing and figured it out. The best advice and you gave it here is: get in FRONT of the wave. I sat out there for 2 trips to the beach, getting waves smacking me and just kinda lumbering off going nowhere but behind the waves. Seeing the kids around me dart off like a bullet, I noticed they would get out to where the waves crested and time their launch just BEFORE the wave would impact. So I tried it and sure enough, was able to ride at least 100ft or better into shore lol These days I've gotten a whole lot better and can actually even do a FEW tricks but it was a long, embarrassing process
LMAO this is one of the more entertaining body boarding videos on YT (: good job man! I ride Myrtle beach waves on days off and after work as much as I can. Body boarding is extremely fun and it’s a great workout!
Please let me know how it goes! I had tried and tried and always failed until my daughter showed me the techniques I share here. I shot the footage in this video ten minutes later. It really worked for me.
@@MidAgedDad it DOES work. About 4 weeks ago, I caught a beautiful wave at Cowell's, I saw her coming, I rode that baby into shore then all of a sudden, I was like air-bound, hey, where's my wave and BAM I dropped and hit the shore. It was success as far as I was concerned. Just hit Doran's weekend before last...had calm to work on my paddling, balance, etc. Caught a few nice waves coming in. I suggest watching these videos before you go out until they become second nature.
2:26 you use that position if you have flippers. because your foot and flipper is under the water so hat you can gain more speed. (if your pushing off the sandbsank, they put he board around your thighs)
Don’t forget fins are essential! And don’t go straight like a kook, after you kick into the wave and it lifts you turn left or right depending which way is the better ride.
Dude!! Great video. Thanks for sharing all your mistakes and how you fixed them to get better waves. People want to get insane waves when your run of the mill wave timed right can give you incredible rides. Keep up the great work. 🤙
Great video dude ⬅️ (see I’ve got the lingo right 😀 I hope) 58 yrs young and started last year, love it. Going Monday to North Cornwall for the day with new wet suit and equally enthusiastic granddaughters for a fun beach day on our boards. Last year I would also hit the wave to late so great tips mate (sorry - dude) and I’ll put them into practice on Monday 😃🏄♂️🏖
Nice video, I think you're ready for a bit deeper water. Like chest high and when the wave comes the level will drop. Then u can really ride it for a while and have the time to see how different angles give u different results
This past weekend i was out there on the kiddie board wondering the same thing(why tf am i sinking?!) then i put two and two together when i saw kids with the same size board as mine.. and a surfer guy looking at me weird. Mate. It took some attempts. But you are right. You have to get the timing right jumping just before the wave and the angle you have the board. But when you get it. I was buzzing! When you get the right angle and you take off at the right time. You see the wave actually taking the board underneath it. It's crazy. Thanks man. I'm gonna try some more tomorrow. Waves weren't big. But I when done right. It's a BUZZ! Thanks man.
Also I noticed when I really leave forward. Have my hands positioned up high. I had little control of the board. So I just had my hands closer to the middle.
