No way I would restructure Carr. Sign a vet to a one year deal and have him and Rattler compete. Period.
Maybe, or get 50mil cap fix. Thats the mark on his head. Also it's looking like they will have to keep Rizzi. I'm all for that now. Rizzi, Carr, Rattler scenario is still an workable option. What do you think?

@@DonXenon75There won't be a fair QB competition because Rizzi already said that Carr gives him the best chance to win. He vividly expressed their win loss record, comparing the two QBs.. I'd rather have Kafka or Moore, two guys who actually played QB and understand DC4 can't be fixed. Either they'll work around his flaws or develop Rattler.
@@OSSM_trauma no disrespect to rizzi, but I'm not taking a QB evaluation from a ST coach. He won't even be the coach next year. And Carr was a veteran starter with a big contract. What was he supposed to say? Carr sucks and I can't wait until he's gone?
I think Moore or Kafka (hopefully Moore) who both are former QBs can work with Rattler and he's a solid starter

To add: If Chris has a headache-- even a dull one-- he shouldn't play. I've taken a blow in a fall down the stairs. Hospitalized for nearly a week. That was a decade ago. It affected me long-term more than I might have imagined. The brain controls both cognitive health AND physiological health. It affected my vision, hearing, and balance. It weakened my stamina. So I know about head injuries personally. It's a delicate situation with Chris.

Mark Ingram was a 1st round runningback. The Saints drafted him and misused him for his first 4 years in the league. Had he gon to Pittsburgh or Philly where they run the ball, he's looked at as one of the greats. But splitting time with Thomas, Hightower, etc was not his fault. Once they gave him the lead back role he was a 1k rusher. Even rushed for 1k in Baltimore.
Baun, Hendrickson, Hicks all come to mind as players we drafted and misused that ended up being all pros and pro bowlers. That's a organization issue

@fredwright9755 not like the Saints. Yes, there are cases where you have guys go elsewhere and thrive. But the Saints have a streak of misses going back to Rob Nikovich. Alex Anzalone. Al Qudin Mohammed. Boston Scott. The few I named in the original post. Etc etc. All discarded or thought by the Saints to be players that couldn't play. All went on to be very good starters and key contributors to the next team. We're talking several in the past 10 years. I'll throw in a bonus name... Malcom Jenkins. Poor player evaluations by the organization.
I would not count on Manning, even if the Saints are able to draft. It will end up the same situation with Eli. I don't think Grandpa will allow him to play for a team that can't protect his namesake. The caveat being if the Saints get their head out of the sand and actually have a good start on the rebuild with the O-Line.
Cut Carr. Star there and then move forward with the rebuild.

I think Trev deserves pay that reflects his status as a 17-game starter, but not $17M. I wish he could take Peat's guard position and play to that level. I hate to give up on him because once he makes contact moving forward (not back-peddling) he can dominate with his strength. I'd be sad to see him get away. Chris concerns me. I saw a tackle that knocked him down hard; splayed on the field after a head-first face plant. It scared me. I thought he seriously injured his neck. But it was also his head that took blunt trauma on that play. Concussions can begin to happen more frequently. It adds up in the brain. It's hard to fix TBI while exposing the head/brain to more trauma. That's sad because as much as I love his game... I'm kinda leaning like "It aint worth it Chris... stop while you are ahead of this thing".
Must cut Carr and many others on both offense and defense - then start the process of rebuilding this year and next
Washington wasn't expected to do what they did so I'm interested in the unknown. This is exciting. It reminds me of the season after Katrina. No coach. No quarterback. No problem

You had me talking about the positions but as far as the fault. That namely goes to Dennis Allen he was the standing head coach for a period of time. Those were his calls to keep those players and not change up the defense. Yeah he drafted a few guys but didn’t get rid of the extra luggage. I think it’s mostly because of the “Win Now” mindset thinking they were up for a Super Bowl for some reason. It’s past time for a rebuild. During a rebuild any team is going to suck. And you know what that means. Higher draft picks going into the 2026 draft class.

I think penning had the best year he could’ve had. Him tali were the only 2 lineman that played all games. He’s made leaps and bounds to go from ass to gas baby. We got our tackles imo. We need to fill out our depth. Cesar when healthy had a good year. We need back up center and a left guard.
Only way to get better is be terrible another year or 2 . I don’t understand why they were winning games at the end of the season should’ve tanked & added a top 5 pick to the roster

to be fair they did finish 5-12 which should have been enough to get em a top 5 pick any other year. its just frustrating seeing teams like the panthers, jets, jags, etc. get top picks each year only to not do shit with it.

I think the rebuild ain't all that complicated this year we need to focus on running and stopping the run imo draft dline or oline hire Kellen Moore Kellen hires eagles oline coach as OC Kellen could still call plays but we'd have the best oline coach in the league that's my 1 year plan after that shift focus to other areas

Why when Spencer Rattler is discussed, Jake Haener name pops up, if the Saints were to cut or trade Spencer Rattler a team would pick him up with the quickness, you can't say the same for Jake Haener, there's no comparison. You can clearly see Spencer Rattler is a far better QB than Jake Haener, even though Dennis Allen and crew, at one point made Jake Haener second string QB. I never understood that move. I just hope the Saints don't ruin Spencer Rattler's NFL career, I hope as soon as he gets the opportunity he packs his bags and get out of there, because they are already overlooking him. The Saints still has a lot of talent, I hope we are not overlooking that, we came out the gate beating the Panthers 47--10 and beating the Cowboys 44--19, then something happened, we fell apart. Unless all the players laid down and quit, it totally sounds like coaching to me. Sean Payton took some of our coaches and players with him and left us with Dennis Allen.
Beating the Cowboys like that was impressive, but the Carolina game should have been the only outcome. Since we were not repeat the beating the second time shows just how much of fluke the first part of the season was.
Hendrickson Williams Anzalone Lattimore CD2 Baun and a host of others went to other teams and had a SB appearance or made a deep playoff run in the 1st year removed. Coaching is critical not social media and what fans think. Payton passed on a young Badger Patrick Queen and the kid from the Chargers but of yeah it’s the organization. I said this before Payton thought about leaving he turned into his mentor the TUNA
I would try retaining Penning. He will take the lowball offer lmao. He’s not good but he’s serviceable. For Olave I would pass. I love him but he can’t take a hit at all. One hit and he’s always hurt
We can’t judge olave too hard look at the QBs he has had the offensive coordinator and all the bs ik the franchise. I would say he has played well for all the bs. Plus Carr has caused some of his injuries not olave being reckless

Don't do it. Derek Carr can now be of value for the Saints. He could be a part of the tank. They can retain Rizzi -- say Carr -- go out and do the very best you can do. This is your big year. Take us to the Superbowl in 26. And they will have a top five pick -- purge all those contracts they have now with a new coach and a QB heavy draft. They are going to stink anyway. They are going to be colossal perineal losers from now on until some change is made at the top. They won't fix it AND they won't draft a QB. They instead will draft a punter in a draft where they could draft Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Terry Bradshaw -- Any great pick in history and they will draft Russel Erxslaben. Guido Merkins.

@ Probably has more to do with Loomis than the actual coaches, as their hands are tied and they will typically not call out the GM and ownership for their bad decisions.
Probably why McCarthy pulled out as he didn't want to have another season with a GM/Owner like Jerry Jones, but with a GM/Owner that's even worse when it comes to the decisions made.

What’s up Matt ? I have noticed some of our solid proven Vets don’t or can’t develop the young players, Think of all the positions and the young players behind the veterans outside of Granderson and Breese, there has not been any young development.. I don’t know for sure or have inside sources, it’s not all their fault but it seems like a bunch of guys out there that probably go their separate ways after practice and games.
Sorry to dump on players but watching these elite teams playing in the playoffs reveals how far behind this ball club is.
It's th3 coaches job to develop. Not the vets. They get paid to play. Not develop. I'm sure they give them advice. But they're not tasked with player development

how is olave a hard decision ? hes the most talented or second most talented player on offense when healthy and in a few years youre not going to be paying any of these vets ? also the salary cap here is irrelevant because youre not going to be going in free agency to build ur team anyways thats done through the draft so a 1 year deal at 15 mill isnt shit. 15 mill a season isnt even a convo anymore btw the convo with olave will be whether u give him the long term deal at $20-$25 mill by the time hes ready to get a contract.

Saint organization is disorganization. Loomis is a disaster. Bad drafts, league’s worst cap manager, gets beat in virtually every trade. Injured players cannot be replaced because the team has no koney to add free agents or trade for proven talent. I believe Payton left because he knew winning with Loomis was a steep climb. Fire Loomis and go for a complete rebuild
It’s not point for us to draft a first round pick in 2025. Is it feasible for us to trade a first rounder this year for more first rounders in 2026 ? Also Mickey can possibly focus on getting the cap down in the meantime.
No because you need young talent on a cheap deal now. Regardless of 2026 you need to get young talented players now. At 9 you can get a starter. You need everything. So get somebody

Tanking doesn't guarantee a franchise QB, and even then it could be years before he actually gets on the field. Most likely, they will have to give give Moore 4/5 year contract to bring him to NO. Keep Carr who is more than a decent QB, and let Moore work in the new guy in.
