One more reason is that Mccree has reached the self actualising redemption that Hanzo hasn't. Hanzo still needs to make the painful transition between criminal leader to hero, something Mccree might actually understand and help him with with his criminal background.
I'd love for this ship to be canon but even if it never does become canon, Blizzard 100% needs to make these two drinking buddies and partner agents. They would totally either get along or be at each other's throats.
I like the ship because of their similarities. Both have quite dark pasts but they reflect on it differently which makes people think they are opposites. I believe they could help each other get through their sorrowful moments. ((Such as comic Never got to heal right on deviant art)) Mostly McCree helping Hanzo get out of his angsty shell because when was the last time we saw Hanzo smile like holy hell. Their love for alcohol links them a little more just like those two totally not gay drinking buddies. They both had to put up with loosing people close to them and have them come back out of nowhere. Their lives before the recall were also quite similar. Always on the run, isolated from most people, just on their own. I just have this weird feeling of understanding for both of them which makes me think they're just cute as very close friends or even a couple. :'> 💕

At this point I don't see why Blizzard don't just make it official.
because making it official would be considered pandering and that would seriously piss alot of people off the change the story just because fans (the majority) asked for it. nothing is worse then seeing a joke taken seriously. overwatch has already pandered enough with all the dad jokes involving soldier. and it kinda scared me at first that it was gonna be taken further, but overwatch is relatively tasteful with it's jokes and memes and knows what the limits are to prevent the game into being turned to garbage.
Icy Dice It's not pandering. Pandering implies that the thing being given is distasteful or immoral. A large portion of fans recognizing that these two could work well together (regardless of whether it's platonic or romantic), and the Overwatch Team agreeing with that and then happily giving them more in-game interactions, isn't pandering.
And what exactly would putting them together change in the game/story? How would that make it "garbage"? The game would still be the same game play. And there's not even that much story lore out there yet; it's mostly pre-fall, post-fall, and pre-recall. People who get angry over McHanzo's popularity and fans wanting it to be canon need to get over it.
Because just to get them to meet in cannon they would have to move the plot forward.

Reality Rogue No offense, but this video and their interactions so far kind of disprove that. None of the voice lines they've had are hostile or angry; more like a snarky friendship and rivalry. They may be kind of different personality wise, but they're also really similar in a lot of ways.

You missed something! 🎵 McCree was assumed to be the one who saved Rikamaru Ramen Shop from a robbery so he might have come into contact with Hanzo due to the fact that he was in Hanamura and supposedly so is Hanzo. Just wanted to add that. 😸
Just as said - aesthetics. I actually love the fanart of those two together because they LOOK good together, though I'm usually not really into any yaoi kind of stuff.
I think their opposites and similarities work extremely well together both in story and design, which is why I like to see them together. (Though I still think reaper and soldier just don't look good together drawn that way.)

Aesthetically, and character backstory wise, the ship seems pretty interesting...But the canonical interactions make the ship far fetched. Ah well, that can't stop anyone from dreaming, and honestly, the fanworks are pretty cute.
McHanzo is a fun ship! There is potential there for sure, now wither or not Blizzard does anything with it is yet to be decided. It'd probably have alot less flame to it if the staff for Overwatch hadn't added fuel to it. Jeff Kaplan saying he liked it and Matt Mercer (Mcree's VA) alluding he loved the idea and teased fans with it. So that only drives shippers even more wild. I'm not saying there isn't a possibly for other male characters to be romantic - but this ship in particular seems the most likely?

This ship is so silly to be built solely on aesthetics. But those interactions were added later in the game so it seemed like the OW team wanted to give it a little nod. Really nice of them.

I think what also upped the shipping by a lot, was when Cassidy’s voice actor said that he’d get a drink for Hanzo’s voice actor during one of those meet ups or something. Said something along the lines of “And I’ll take two, one for my buddy Hanzo over there”
all those reasons + two hot guys being dorks while not on missions. like, them being able to find solace in someone so different from themselves yet so similar and just being able to relax even if they don't feel able to really show what's on their mind.
i think i like it for that, the thought of them growing close despite everything that's happened in their lives and finally being able to find someone they can truly connect to. also being able to call each other out on stuff when needed because they could see where the other was coming from and also call bullshit when one was mad for no reason.

I think it's also an unspoken rule that red and blue coloured characters /have/ to be shipped.
And while as of now, we haven't seen them interact with eachother outside of in-game banter, the relationship the fandom has built for them is really refreshing actually. Imagining little competitions like "who holds their liquor better" or "let's see who's a better shot with the other's weapon" is really is a treat. Hanzo comes from a dignified clan that has made him a master swordsman, bowman, and likely a gunman as well. While McCree has probably never used a bow in his life.

Coming from a McHanzo Shipper myself, I'll try to explain my side of view.
As many of my fellow McHanzo shippers will tell you, we like the dynamic between the two. East meets West, a calm river meets a hot fire, Opposites attract. I have my own addition to this thought that the two can help each other. What I mean is that both of them have had a long, difficult and lonely life. They both deserve happiness because of their strides to seek redemption, so if they have each other to lean on, they can help each other cope with their past sins. Also, I think another big factor is Genji.
Think about it. You have this cyborg ninja that has a deep history with both of these characters that he cares about, has proven to have the legendary Shimada sass and he wants them both to find peace. Plus, it's easy to envision him being the one that gets these two to meet each other since he is the bridge between the two. It all culminates in Genji being the perfect wingman, a comedic side to the ship where the ninja can poke some fun from the ship.
Also, need I mention that Matt Mercer, the voice of McCree, personally ships these two as well?
TL;DR, McHanzo has a lot of potential for the characters and brings out a new perspective for our favorite cowboy and ronin.

I think it also has to do with potential. Genji gives Hanzo the opportunity to make up for what he's done by joining the Overwatch recall. And of course I feel like Mccree will definitely come back to recall (at least to see all his comrades and friends).
Mccree is seen to try and connect with Genji during the blackwatch event, and I feel like this is a suggestion of their future friendship. I'm sure Mccree will eventually figure out what happened to Genji, if not that he already knew. Knowing Hanzo attempted to kill Genji might leave Mccree in a hard place-- especially since Genji seems to forgive his brother for what he's done.
Just imagine the tense interactions between Mccree and Hanzo, where they try to understand each other's perspectives. In reality they both lead incredibly tough lives, and both did some really bad things. I think they could totally bond over that, and come to support each other.
Of course, this can lead to an intimacy that can bloom into either friendship or romance. I prefer romance, tbh xD

Some of the most compelling things about the ship are their banters and slight teasing conversations, and their abilities to help each other heal from their dark pasts. They have amazing compatibility.
Fandom Representative ikr? People say 'oh its shipped cause Its hot" but I don't find it pleasing to look at, I'm more attracted to females (I'm hella gay) I think that they would be able to help eachother, they can relate to eachother of there pasts and the path there both going down.

It's perfectly ok if you want to imagine it as your headcanon, but there's no reason it should be forced into actual canon, same goes for all fan ships.

McHanzo is partly based on "Opposides attract". The irony with that is *some* people who ship McHanzo and are like "I ship it because they are opposides. Opposides attract, that's a rule" , dont like junkrat x symmetra and prefer sombra x symmetra or junkrat x mercy... Mei x Junkrat is also based on this concept with junkrat representing south and mei north, plus mei representing ice and junkrat fire.
