She had an 80s sound on most of her few last records, this is nothing new. 1988 is just 1 year out of the most diverse decade of quality music there ever was, especially her good self, and this album has nothign to do with "Close" ssonically, it's all marketing pretence sadly, and her invoking her feelings for how good she felt around rcording that '88 album, but it really means little.
