First year student. Class 1C. You'll probably be interviewed by Mike Chen. Have your best stuff in your portfolio. Be sure it's from the last 3 years and you can explain to him what your piece is about and how you made it. Be serious about your art and what you do. Be prepared to give up your social life and your free time. I haven't played a video game for more than one hour in the last 6 months. But in those 6 months i've improved at my art ten fold. You will be drawing nonstop. Good Luck!
I came from Kentucky. There are students from all over the world, and usually the ones from outside of the USA are more formally trained and are usually a step ahead of everyone else, it can be intimidating thinking that they will be your competition when you finish school. Having 10 classes a week which all have homework due usually the following week, you'll have no short supply of art to focus on. Make friends with your teachers too, they might have work for you after you finish school.
Only discovered The Kubert School recently, but it's cemented my plans for the future. Time to get back into my art and build up my skills and portfolio and try to do something that I really love. Awesome interview.
@BSMART18 Actually, they just released the first Life with Archie trade! I highly recommend you pick it up. Otherwise, just jump right in! Kevin Keller and the upcoming Occupy Riverdale storyline should be good places to start. - Grace
I wish I could have went to that school. I could only imagine how much you would learn in such a short time. But you also got to love the networking on UA-cam. I improve my comic tons by studying on here and applying the techniques on my own. And its better for my budget. lol.
loved this Between the Pages! I had never heard of this school and I may look into it, and being in my last year of High school it sounds like a good trade. I would love to go into the comic book industry, and this just boosts my determination.
After I graduate from middle and high school I want to go to the Kubert School. The companies I'd love to work for would be DC, Bongo Comics, and maybe even Marvel.
i think trying to tell a story with your art is the hardest thing for me and its a must to have because iv had ppl say stuff like "i dont get it..." and its pretty frustrating because it means im not doing a very good job on telling a story with the art but good video grace keep them coming! =)
Great show as always, I would love to hear an artist take on developing your own art style. Love the show and the thing I like most is you can say whatever you want about any topic without corporate restriction.
i appreciate the reply. i'm excited just for this interview alone. i'm heading out all the way from arizona so i definitely have to make it count. and if all goes well my goal is to grind hard and get really good. i've done retail for 10 years of my life all the while putting art on the sidelines only when i had time but now i want to reverse that role where art is the main focus.
@MariaVosa Hey thanks, Maria, I really appreciate that sentiment! :) But don't worry, TATI and BTT viewers (and I know you're both) will always be my top priority! - Grace
I'm no expert but I think you should script them out and then draw them then maybe give it to some friends to read and see if they like and then just build up from there my thoughts really but I hope that helps. -anon
ok. you sold me. i'm going to the Kubert school. as soon as i figure out how to pay for it, lol. life after the art institute is a b--ah... female dog, lol.

Go Fernando go! Took his class when when I was a Kubie in '96-'98. Great guy, one of my fave teachers. ;)

You are such a great interviewer Grace! Truly. I'm terrified some smart TV producer is going to discover it and steal you away from us.
How do you create your own comic? And what college class do I need to take.
Thanks for the Art Update Grace, do you think you'll ever cover webcomics and how digital is becoming the new 'frontier'?
Another great video.
