Thanks David Sally, I've always enjoyed the unboxing process of the Precision 55xx series, Dell likes to make the box a little different to their usual business range. I also am awaiting on the 7550 and the 7750, the delays are everywhere =(, I going to like to compare the difference in performance between the 7550 and the 5550, I order very similar specs for the 7550 to match with the 5550.

@Vibhakara how much is it priced in India? I have been wanting to get my hands on one. The Dell guys seems pretty uninterested in dealing with customers who wants to buy Dell Laptops in India. The customer support seems rather disappointing in retaining potential customers.
Thanks Sumit Roy, so far it seems to be quite an amazing machine I have found some quirks while test using it which I will report in the review video =).
Good video. But you really need to read up on the features of the device, before making the unboxing. You provide some incorrect information and do not mention key features of the laptop. For example: 1. The keyboard has been redesign with 10 % LARGER keys and longer travel. 2. The aspect ratio is now 16:10 and not 16:9 as previous generation. But great to see the laptop in the darker grey colour - looking forward to get my 5550 :)
Hi Janik Frithioff, thanks for the feedback and the correct information regarding the laptop. I get a number of laptops and my unboxing and first impression videos I usually just do a quick scan of the spec sheet on key configurations like CPU, RAM, hard drive, GPU. I don't look at the ports or the photos of it and then do the unboxing just to let the rest surprise me. I generally won't look into the marketing material till after the unboxing. I guess it's like first reaction videos out there, in this case as if I was at one of the shows seeing the laptop for the first time. I usually do a follow up video with proper information regarding the computer and tests performed on it. Stay tune for the review video of it =). I am quite jealous you have one coming your way! I will love to hear your thought on it as well when you receive it.
@@BsianTech OK - If your intention is to do the unboxing "on a clean base", then I fully understand that some information might not be correct. I can follow, the unboxing process is much more exciting that way. Looking forward for your full review - your review of the 5540 was excellent :) If you are not aware - there has been an issue on the XPS 15 9500 (the consumer version of precision 5550) regarding the trackpad being loose. Dell has acknowledged the issue and said it was corrected for all XPS 15 9500 units shipped in June. Can you check if the trackpad of your device is affected by this error or not - maybe mention it in your full review. It might be a good information for people considering this laptop. :)
Janik Frithioff thanks for understanding Janik, thanks for the feedback on the 5540 review, I hopefully plan for a better review for the 5550. As for the trackpad I have already notice a flaw in the design. I never thought I would say this but the trackpad is actually too big, while using it on my tests I notice I keep accidentally pressing the trackpad from the bottom of my palms therefore accidental moving the cursor. I notice the new bios update has try to give better palm rejection but being mechanical can’t stop the depressing of the actual trackpad. I have already email my concerns regarding about this issue of the trackpad to Dell internal hoping they could do more with firmware update or pass the issue to the design team so that the next refresh model won’t have that issue. I will mention this in my review video :).
@@BsianTech Interesting point, which has not been covered in the XPS 15 reviews. That might be possible to solve with a driver update of the trackpad. The issue I was referring to, is that the trackpad is psychically loose and "clicks" by just touching it (needing two clicks, to actually perform one click). Looking forward to your review :)
I haven't experience the loose clicks you have mention in fact the unit I testing on I find it pretty good, I would assume the precision series have better build quality compare to the XPS since it's intention to take more corporate punishment of everyday moving around as a professional working computer.
wondering why the battery in the precision 5550 is only 3 cell compared to the 6 cell in the XPS15. Edit: funny, on the US website it is the same... maybe an error on the austrian website?
Hi Jakob Bauer, I have just open my 5550 up and it is a 86WHr (6Cell) version, which is what I would normally order this at, you will see it in my review video soon. I too wondering if they done a typo or not for what is included, they do have a 56WHr (3 Cell) version of the battery I can see in the spec sheet.

Do you know if we can change the memory strips ourselves or are they soldered? Xeon is designed to support 128gb but is limited to 64gb on site. Do you know why ? Thanks in advance for your help
hi, i am thinking of buying the 4k touch model because I like the resolution for doing cad detailing. I would normally buy a matte screen non touch but the 4k for the 5550 is only available in the glossy anti-reflective (which appears to be what you have). I am curious if you notice the reflectivity of this screen over a matte screen? Does it bother you? do you have to move the computer at times to avoid reflections? thanks !
Hi , I wanna know if this laptop would be well recommended over the hp spectre x360 , that’s the one I am using now but I damaged the screen so I’m just looking for a similar or upgrade from the spectre
Hi, thank you the for review. I am considering dell 5550 or Lenovo thinkpad p1 gen2. Which one you think best among these two? My main requirement is to run multiple virtual machines, 4k video editing, recording auduo (DAW) and heavy programming. Thank you.
Just a FYI the dell 5550 was designed with 3d modeling in mind. That means that the graphics card is super well suited for programs like solidworks and running simulation software, but may fail to keep up with cheaper options for something like video editing simply because that's not what it was designed for. Try researching the Quadro T2000 or T1000 (the options for the 5550) vs the graphics card in the lenovo. It can make a huge difference for your laptop's performance so make sure you get what's best for you.
Thanks picl17 picl17, this video is more unboxing of it, I will do a review video after having spent some time on it. I'm actually using it now to reply to you. As for choosing between the Dell 5550 and Lenovo P1 gen2 is hard one because I'm actually awaiting for Lenovo refresh of the Lenovo P1 (guessing it will be gen 3) for this year. If I had to chose between the two right now, easily go with the Dell 5550, you getting a much after newer CPU in 5550(10th gen Intel) vs P1 gen2 (8th gen Intel).
Thanks Addison Hagan for the extra explanation, I get this question a lot as well and really it's a matter of finding a laptop that's balanced to your intended application and also lifestyle as well. Want to also add in another extra, the Dell 5550 has option for the Quadro T1000 and T2000 where as the Lenovo P1 is Quadro P1000 or P2000. Just FYI the T series Quadros are newer and quicker than the P series Quadros.
Thank you Addison and Brian. I have a question on the right side USB-C port. Is it thunderbolt? How can I connect my Logitech wireless mouse dongle to this? What is your impression on speakers and how does this compare to MacBook Pro 16? Thank you.
All the USB-C ports are thunderbolt in the 5550. Yes having no USB-A ports means you will need to dongle the wireless mouse dongle lol, dongle attached to dongle oO. As for the speakers the MBP 16 still better way better hands down from the testing.
Hi Brian Basalo Sumayan Junior, for the time being Dell Precision 5550 is better in performance due to processor gone to 10th Gen Intel (in benchmarks and thermals it's pretty good so far in my testing). Port wise still the Lenovo P1 gen 2. Keyboard and Trackpad I'm still very torn but after period I think 5550 for that really nice glass feel finish to the trackpad but there is one issue, and I will demonstrate it in my review video. When P1 Gen 3 comes out then thoughts might be changed.
