These guys are great. If they were a new band they would still be great. Its completely irrelevant how old they are, or their collective past. They were so poorly treated by the British music establishment, and like many interesting bands in the 1990's (i'm thinking of the House of Love for one) they were brushed aside by the macho nonsense of Brit pop and US grunge. The music sounds fresh and interesting. I hope Slowdive continue recording & playing together. What they are doing with guitars is utterly compelling.
Neil is a damn God. He sways/shakes that guitar to give us that euphoric sound. Not to mention his speed picking. Not easy stuff. Legend. The whole damn band is just Godlike. I seriously can't think of a better 5 piece.
They were 20 years ahead of their time... like Floyd... and now they've mastered their sound. This concert solidifies their claim as the royalty of shoegaze.

I discovered Slowdive at the beginning of the pandemic. Whenever I wasn't able to cope with the terror of our government this band pulled me more or less through. The song Sugar for the Pill was the right song to guide my emotions in a wonderful way and I still can cry when I hear it. I'm 65 and I never had thought I would fall for such a band. But it's definitely underrated by the musical establishment. Wonderful band and I wish them all the luck in the world. ❤🤩

For some reason or not this haunting song started haunting me again after all these years while I'm hunckering down cos of the virus. Anyway memories of past loves and places I'm no longer connected to physically are now with me, thank you this
I actually don’t know much about this band. I was simply browsing through UA-cam, looking for bands with a similar sound, when I ran across this one. But I must say, they are quite excellent! I really enjoy their musical style! I would have to list them as one of my favorite bands now .
So many didn't get paid at the time and most musicians lack other skills to make a living with I do not begrudge bands reforming. Especially when they still have the chemistry
Most bands reunite because they were so famous...and satisfy old fans ticket sales. Slowdive reunite because they were derided by soulless music press until they quit, and now have their popularity.
Most bands have a comeback because of recapitulation,, they owe contracts for past advert expenditure,, or if your Elvis etc & can't pay, you get to meet Whitney Houston
endless dedication and humbleness from the best possible group ever to exist. Endless admiration they deserve, but okay only the ''happy few' know them. Let's just be glad to be among those happy few.
Damn, this is very well recorded, just like dvd quality or so. But hearing this band live is like nothing else I'd ever experienced. Nobody can play like them, with beautifull, gentle crafted melodies, and with an enormous level of loudness at the time. Wish them to play forever! And wanted to say they all are such a humble and down to earth people, especially Rachel, she is like a person You would love to hang out and just wander 😊
Is it easier to hear them when you’re actually in the crowd in person? I feel like I can’t really hear them in this at some points. I’m seeing them in October so I’m just curious
@@alicia-zv6mh You asking about their vocals I guess? It depends of certain songs. Some of them have more distant vocals in mi, Some of them more forward. But I can assure that You will not be dissapointed. They really care to deliver great quality of their sound 🙂
i just got tickets for slowdive la and i went on youtube to see and i already have goosebumps seeing this online. slowdive has been my favorite band for a few years now and their music truly is so nostalgic because i first discovered them during covid and they were the highlight of my hardest times (not a bad thing tho) imagining the concert in a few months is so unbelievable and i have never been more excited for anything in my life.

Having delved into the band for 3 years now, I can say without a doubt this is the finest example of their live work. Props to the poster for this heavenly, eponymous upload. Cream of the crop here. The mix and production of this is is world class.

Superb night this...travelled down from Liverpool for this, after seeing them perform at the Arts Club up there the night before, this was only announced while I was on the train north...so, I had to get a ticket for this show as well...

My one massive regret is not remembering the concert I went to in Oxford with my brother back in 93. If I'd had a chance to go back, I'd tell myself to have a night off the beer! All I remember was it was upstairs, tall windows, big old radiators, and a dark stage. I know I enjoyed it at the time though! After that, I learnt to drive and hence, I can remember most of the concerts I've been to since!
Slowdive does get very heavy I love it...a gentle heavy....and you can hear the guitar tribute to the cure it's fucking brilliant music...this live version of blue sky and clear is absolutely killer.

Didn’t know they reunited as Slowdive. Have all their original EPs (I have one EP with the band signatures on the cover) and CDs. They morphed into Mojave 3 and I also got those CDs as well as Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell’s albums. Then I lost track of them. To see this performance is fantastic. I was a big fan of them and most of the 4AD artists as well. Mid/late 80s up to mid 90s was a great period of terrific and innovative music from the UK. Glad I collected every album I could as some were limited EPs and import only. This was way before UA-cam so if I didn’t get them from my favorite alternative shop (Vintage Vinyl in Evanston, IL) I would never see them again. Now through the gift of UA-cam there are additional works and video performances, so once again I can experience the great artists play again…
This is such a great live sound! I saw Slowdive live in I think 1993 in Toronto, with Ride (also saw My Bloody Valentine around the same time). Slowdive was amazing, better live than Ride. So glad to see these bands coming back! I played in a shoegaze band from 1992-1995 called Stillmotion. We only ever released a marble vinyl 45 rpm. Still love playing this music in 2021!

Agreed generally but not fair to equate grunge with Britpop or 'macho nonsense'. Grunge had a lot more in common with shoegaze than Britpop.

Took til enough indie bands influenced by shoegaze gradually brought them back onto the originals haha.

This is such a great live sound! I saw Slowdive live in I think 1993 in Toronto, with Ride (also saw My Bloody Valentine around the same time). Slowdive was amazing, better live than Ride. So glad to see these bands coming back! I played in a shoegaze band from 1992-1995 called Stillmotion. We only ever released a marble vinyl 45 rpm. Still love playing this music in 2021!
