I recommend going downtown Amberg. Such a nice city with a lot of history. More than 1000 years old and maybe 25 minutes from Vilseck

I was stationed at Grafenwöhr for 6 years. My step-dad is active duty. 2009-2013 I went to Vilseck High. My Senior Prom was at that Castle. ❤️😭 I miss Germany every day. I am half German, and my most of my mother's side of the family resides near or in Karlsruhe. It is home for me.

Thank you, just found this looking for the church. I came to Vilseck in 1992 as a guest of a friend and stayed in Rose Army Barracks. I made a great friend in Vilseck and came back many times and brought my friends and stayed at the Angerer and Thumhotel. Annalese and her family ran the Angerer and the last time I visited she was not well. Karl Guttman became a good friend of all of us visiting. He lived in the first house built outside the walled city and was very upset when they changed his address from #1 Markplaz to 8. His home was the 3 rd down including the Angerer Hotel. He passed a few years ago and I was trying to see his name on the family monument in the church graveyard. Good memories, thanks very much.

I haven't been back to Vilseck since 1981 and your video brought back many fond memories. So much has changed, yet so much has remained the same. The timing couldn't have been better since my daughter recently asked where I grew up in Germany and I can now give her a little peek. Only wish you'd have taken the road up past our old home and into Fitzhume village. Thank you so much for that trip down memory lane!

Great video. I was stationed there from 1988 to 1992. I fell in love with a young lady there but she moved away to be with her sick father. I was there when they were building the new housing on Rose barracks. It was the best time of my life. I used to frequent the night club downtown called "The Miami". 🙂 I even still have the 5 mark chips they gave you to buy a drink. I still have friends there and nearby. I used to visit Regensburg with my friends from Illesheim and we still chat from to time. ❤

Hello, my name is Darion and I just ran across your channel, Great job on your video BTW, I really enjoyed it. I was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany when I had served in the US Army and I used to go to Graf/Vilsek all the time to go to the field lol. I visit Germany at least twice a year. I am supposed to go back for a visit in Sept 2020 if the travel ban goes away so here's hoping. I had visited Vilsek back in Sept 2019 and it had brought back a lot of memories. I really like the new Commissary/PX mall. (new to me) Anyways, I am looking forward to viewing more of your videos as I have subscribed. I actually have a UA-cam channel titled "Magnificent Germany with Darion" and I love sharing my videos. I actually made a video of my last trip to vilsek, and it was great to see this great town again.

Our daughter was born in the hospital in nearby Auerbach. We just visited again for the first time since we moved last fall. This brought back so many good memories, and I've subscribed so hope to see more!

Great video as always: just a hint - do not use the left pedestrian lane of a road to ride your bicycles. A lot of severe accidents have happened because car drivers did not recognize the cyclists when they have left their property since they have just watched the left side of the pedestrian walkway. Most courts have decided that it was the cyclist' fault since they have used the wrong side of the road.

I was stationed there from {1959--1961} sixty one years ago. WOW!! I was 19 when I arrived & 21 when I rotated back to the states. Rose Barecks was my home & I was with 663rd Ammo Ord Supply Co. Don't remember my MOS. I was an ammo humper, AKA a guy who unloads, stores & supplies oredenance for the Field Rats as we used to call troops who were training with Tank Training Center (TTC). We busted our buns but we had a hot meal & a warm bed every night.I was permanent party & was out in the field just once per year, always in the middle of winter & made $75.00 a mo. I was there when the Berlin Wall went up & my company was almost scrambled to head out but the orders were pulled. Close call. The town looks familiar but really cleaned up. I don't imagine Rose 🌹 Barecks looks anything like I remember. I'm 80 now & living the good life. I wish I could see 🙈 my domacile as I remember it. In that time they were old German Barecks for Hitler's troops from WW 2.We were in 6 man squad rooms & heated with coal stoves in the winter.I suppose all of that has been modernized by now. I was there when Elvis Presley came through in 1960.He was a SARGENT at the time. I can honestly say I had dinner with him although it was in our mess hall with about 70 other of my comrads. As he was leaving he shook hands with most of us. He was a nice guy just another GI doing his tour for Uncle Sam.RSVP & let me know please about the condition of the old Hitler era Barecks. RSVP. Robert

Would this be anywhere near Illesheim? Where the old barracks are/were? My husband was stationed there back in 1987. We lived off base in the next Village over called Ufersheim I'm pretty sure I have the spelling right or close to it 😆. Anyway did they closed the base down. I would give anything in the world to go back there and visit and appreciate it more We were only teenagers and I didn't appreciate it. All I wanted to do is be back in the city silly 😜 Me.

Just one more "fun Fact" about the river Vils there are at least two more streams or creeks in bavaria names "Vils" both located in lower Bavaria (Niederbayern) as Vilseck and that Vils shown in this video is in the Oberpafalz (a different region).
"Our" Vilses are seperated by names as Große Vils und kleine Vils (big and small).

    • @thealwayshome9239

    • @archiegates650
      @archiegates650 4 роки тому +1

@@thealwayshome9239 as far as I know the one running through Vilseck is just called "Vils".
The bigger one in Niderbayern running through Taufkirchen an der Vils and Vilsbiburg.
The smaller one runs through Vilsheim.
So you see bavarians sometimes lack fantasy and enthusiams naming towns and Villages (As you might know that Taufkirchen only means "baptizing Church" the place where your newborns were entered into the christian community.
and there are quite a few towns called Taufkirchen spread over bavaria.

8:12 - Flashback from my years ('67-'69) in Berlin......the bird warbling in the background would be the "Eurasian Black Bird" or "Common Black Bird"......which looks (and sounds) remarkably similar to the American Robin, but jet black with yellow beak and a thin yellow line around each eye.
Ah, yes, songs from high in our backyard cherry trees.....
