As a tuner myself, I really appreciate the honesty Re drivers below 4500rpm and over 4500rpm. So many people get it wrong when it comes to cam selection let alone cylinder heads.
Just watched your video from a couple of months ago. I like your honesty with explaining how a different ground camshaft will effect the low end grunt. Good Clip. 👍
You guys have done a cam only pack in my LS1 and the next step for me is the CNC Heads.. super informative video.. we will talk soon regarding further upgrades. Keep up the great work!
Blackwells is one of the best kept secrets around. He recently did all machine work including CNC 241 heads for my stroker LS1 and he did such a thorough job he now has my 418 all aluminium Clevor. For anyone who has seen his multiple championship winning modified speedway sedan, you know he knows what makes lots of power... Give him a call after he finishes my job... Thanks
Good hear, independent motorsport I rang Blackwell priced me 1150 get heads pp 30tho off fully assembled with my springs etc only 4 months old, anyway running vcm13 4 K stall only made 270rwkw ,honest dyno big stall and auto Rob's ya compared to hub dyno n a manual, since than I've upgraded from twin 2.5 system to twin 3s n gone 3 cat deletes done new 411 diff and UDP kit .really notice difference since diff exhaust n pulley kit.when I get heads done getting ls7 lifters and was thinking of running 36lb injectors over stock since such big cam especially when the heads done,so I'm probably around 280 now how much power U think the heads n injectors will add ,also I'd love fast intake but not for 2 K maybe down track, n what about 1 7/8 headers over 1 3\4 what's your opinion to big even on cammed LS1?
has it got the try y long tube or shorties? as i have herd that the try y shorties are better for low down torque and power compared to the long tube try y's? Not much were talking only about 10 or 15hp overall power right through the rev range?
What do you guys suggest on the location/placement of IAT sensor. Mine is currently plumber into the otr on the right side near the end of OTR, slightly away from inlet. Having slight understanding of thermodynamics and physics relating to airflow and movement of air, placing in in section between otr and tb would make sense as truer reading, but the narrowing down of the otr inlet will have an effect on the temp of incoming air. Any hell you could offer would be good, thanks.
Honestly you don't need to overthink this one. The air is moving that fast through the intake that is virtually impossible to get a accurate measurement. Anywhere in the intake pipe is fine. The factory ECU has a bunch of mathematical equations that do the hard work.
So for those cars which do have the holden VZ onwards, what is the best bang for buck upgrade, as far as otr, try y 's and also tune to get most of the power down low from your normal power ranges, say from 2,500 to 4,500 to 5,000 rpm, ie: you on the freeway and you want to over take and you want the power to come in as much as possible, but not to rev the tits off the engine?
297kw good numbers!!! For TRI y, 2.5" catback (with cats) and otr plus cam. I've got same minus cam but I got cat bypass and get 265kw on roller. Would that cam really put in another 32kw??? 42hp is a great gain!!!
my head and cam only maid 280rwkw got boring really quick, built to a 383ci maid this 330rwkw with the same heads cam etc how is a ls1 head and cam making the same numbers of a 383 strange if you ask me
Adding more cubs doesn't necessarily mean you'll make more power it will just allow you to make more torque in the lower RPM range. Making horsepower comes down to cylinder head and camshaft and not cubic capacity.
Maybe get a second and third opinion about your Cam choice. Not everyone gets it right. Peak numbers aren't always the be all and end all thow. For some people the cam that makes the lower numbers is much more sldesirable than one which makes higher hp. It all depends on how the car is used and where you would like both your peak torque and top end power to be
I’m running a VCM 710 with 110°LSA, it’s fine on the street. That much LSA is hard to tune because they have reversion issues which leads to low manifold vacuum at idle, that’s why tuners will steer you away from lopey cams. You’ll have to find a tuner that will spend the time fine tuning for your cam.
@@davidbailey1721 I used the 710 in my cammed vy and in my turbo vz until I built the engine and replaced it. It worked quite well in both auto and manual applications but i spent a while fine tuning it in the street. It just needs a little more fuel in the areas where your cruising and a few other little adjustments here and there
@@independentassesor2630 mine is a manual with 3.91 gears and perfectly fine on the street. Plenty of power, no issues other than at idle as per my previous comment.
Who would cam their LS then only rev it to 4000? My cam only VZ with 289rwkw redline is set at 7000 and i bang it more times then most fellas eat hot dinners.

Great advice Stathi - bigger isn't always the best...
Thanks for the info and great back to back test.

Hi Aaron we are looking forward to getting the car back and adding a set of heads 🤙
Good vid bro love the honesty

Couldn't agree more mate he's been doing all of our machining work for years.

Did you need to change the pushrod lengths with the cnc heads? Did u take anything off the heads?

Exactly that, otr, a set of extractors, a little bit bigger stall, 3.9 diff gears and a shift kit you'll have a bit more get up and go
And ensure spark plugs and coils are in good nick, and especially get new o2 sensors after installing extractors. New extractors will wreck o2 sensors
Is that 328 kw at the wheels ?
How about some more compression as well, even more gains to be had?
I would like to test out a fast 92mm manifold next on this car, will keep you posted
Would you recommend this cam for ls1, higgins heads, t56 manual, ls7 lifters, 3.9 diff gears?
Hi David
Yes this is a perfect cam for that combo
To me the gains in torque were more impressive than the hp gains there.
Will upgrading fuel pump or diff gears give it more
Diff gears will only make it more snappy from take off, And the fuel pump is still fine at this power
Dose that can need a stall

Absolutely. If it put anything less than that it would be a total waste of time & money.
@@IndependentMotorsports this cam work similar for auto with std converter?

@IndependentMotorsports what's the minimum converter to be used with this cam

Also one is hub dyno vs at the tyres on rollers. A Hub dyno will read higher as there is no loss of traction if I'm correct?

If so what results did you get?
Yes to aggressive for the str statuseet

If you don't rev your engine out go buy a prius or maybe some barbie dolls.
