    You have no idea how much your video helped me:I got the e36 back from a friend who was working on it and the car started to backfire through the intake for no reason. We had no idea what it was for the longest time, but you mentioned the two o2 connections on top of the fuel rail a nd how they can be crisscrossed causing mishaps. I assumed my friend already taken a look at it, but apparently not. I switched them up and the car started running mint right away. I was literally about to tear apart everything to diagnose this.. dm me your PayPal so I can buy you a beer my dude.

    This video helped a lot, I managed to save everything but the fuel rail pressure regulator vacuum line and the upper rubber fuel lines.
    The bulkhead panel on the firewall was a nightmare, someone glued mine in and I kinda screwed it up getting it off.
    Unplugging the injectors is kinda annoying, not sure why BMW couldn't just have normal individual plugs like everyone else. The plastic cracking noises are pretty terrifying prying that harness off the injectors.
    And that rear intake support bracket, which also holds the fuel lines, is impossible to get a wrench on.

    I didn't remove the injectors from the rail, its a lot easier to just remove them from the manifold. When you do do this, use some small bungee cords to hang the whole rail from the hood, same goes for the engine harness. With this method you don't have bleed the fuel rail. Note you can also relieve some fuel pressure with the small valve on the front of the rail.

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  7 років тому

      True, the bleed valve on the rail does help. I have found keeping the injectors in the manifold helps prevent vaccum leaks, as i have seen alot of cars run rough from a vaccum leak at one of the fuel injectors, especially if they are old and have worn injector seals. the first few times I removed the intake manifold i kept the injectors on the rail, and from my personal experience it is better to leave them in the manifold, as its easier to make the injectors seal on the rail side than on the manifold side.

      M3NACE thanks, I will definitely check it out. I'm removing the head today, I'm doing all that to change my blown head gasket. I still didn't get the the radiator out because of the fan, I'm still waiting the tool to arrive but so far the radiator not on my way or holding me keep working!! Do I really have to take it off to access the head gasket? Thanks again :)

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  7 років тому

      well, you will need to remove it to be able to disassemble the vanos unit, so yes. that being said, you can take the lower hose off of the radiator and pull the radiator up and out with the fan in place, then you should be able to get the fan shroud and the rest of the cooling system out with the fan still in place. from there all you will have to take off is the fan itself when the tool comes in.

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  6 років тому +1

      leo hernandez no, not at all. Its either way. You can keep them in the manifold or you can keep them on the rail, its up to you. I usually prefer to keep them in the manifold so i dont have to re-seal them in the manifold. If your injector o-rings are old, there is a chance they might cause a vaccum leak when you re-install them, but popping in new injector o-rings will solve that problem.

      The plug between cyl 1 & 2 goes to a solenoid with 2 vacuum lines that run from the hardline uder the vanos, and the one on the very end plugs into a harness that runs underneath the intake manifold. If you watch my M50 manifold conversion i cover this.

    I cannot get the wiring harness off the fuel rail...

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  6 років тому +1

      it will come off. it has little retaining clips at the end of the harness that holds the injectors onto the rail. mine came off easy because I had mine off recently, if yours hasnt come off in 10+ years it might be a little stuck. take a flathead screwdriver, place it under the harness at the back of one of the injectors and gently and slowly pry it up. twisting the driver would be easiest. it will come off, but be gentle and easy with it. if it absolutely refuses to come off, you can unbolt the fuel rail from the manifold by the 2 10mm bolts, and pull all the injectors and the fuel rail/harness out as one.

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  6 років тому +1

      so right underneath the manifold, by the throttle body is the support bracket. put your hand underneath the manifold right under the throttle body hole, and move your hand toward the front of the car. the bracket is the same that holds the little round thing with vaccum lines on it. if you look at 7:09 you will see what i am talking about, right around the red hose. find that bracket, and if you feel for it and follow the bracket down to the engine block, the 14mm is holding the bracket onto the block. it takes a good extension to reach it, or you can unbolt the bracket from underneath the intake manifold, I believe its a 10mm

      fuel hose fell off? ouch. keep in mind that the manifold is bolted on one other place on OBD2 manifolds and 2 places on OBD1 manifolds. there are rails underneath the intake manifold that bolt up to the underside of the manifold just underneath the throttle body hole. these support brackets run down and bolt to the engine block. take your hand and run it underneath the manifold by the throttle body and see if you can feel the support bracket, then

      hmm, you might have not plugged one in- make sure the wiring harness at the end of the fuel rail by the vanos unit it plugged in.

      Any helpful tips on putting it back on?
      I may attempt to switch out starter.
      It seems like all the steps in reverse making sure all cables and hoses are labeled. Then fuel line back on, then fuse back in. Connect battery and should work? Any info helps. Thanks!

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  7 років тому

      yeah, basically the steps in reverse. if you labeled them when you pulled them off, you should have no problem making sure they are all plugged back in. new manifold seals and throttle body seals are a must if you haven't done this before, as the old ones do not seal as well and you might run into vacuum leak issues. use some multipurpose grease on the seals too, but be light with it. use you a torque wrench for the 11mm manifold bolts,10mm fuel rail bolts, the throttle body bolts. 89 inch pounds. with new seals, proper torque, and some help from the grease, everything should be buttoned up and leak-less. main problems with people who re-install these is they either dont torque or use new seals, then have rough idle and vacuum leak issues.

    I can't disconnect lower o2 sensor on flow meter. It's sucked to each other in some way. How to take it apart? I alrady used a little bit more force.

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  7 років тому

      the o2 sensors on the fuel rail harness ?

    • @dondolarson5134
      @dondolarson5134 7 років тому

      Nope, straight after flow meter and there is some angled black tube with a thick cable connected to it.

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  7 років тому

      ah, that sensor. look at the wiring harness, and on the plug in there might be a small metal retaining clip that holds it in place. with your finger, push in on the clip and pull down on the harness at the same time. you might need to use some force, but it should come out, and dont use too much force. if it does not come out and you cant get it, unplug the boot (black angled tube) from the throttle body and move it out of the way, put it somewhere in the engine bay that ill be out of the way, so the sensor can be plugged in but you can work around it.

    with the intake manifold off will that make it easier to replace my icv hose ??

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  7 років тому +1

      as for just replacing the hose, I would not remove the manifold. you can swap the hose without pulling the manifold off, although it is kind of a tight space.

    • @shaun8796
      @shaun8796 7 років тому

      M3NACE ya i was just thinking that would make alot more space

    • @M3NACE
      @M3NACE  7 років тому

      Shaun kristensen it would yes, but now you have to worry about re-installing the manifold correctly, getting all of the injectors to seal, routing all of the vaccum lines properly, and its alot of work to pull the manifold off just to swap out the ICV hose.

      @@xavier8548 there might be brackets underneath the manifold that bolt to the block, id check under it with a flashlight. The brackets bolt under the plenum next to the throttle body, i always throw them in the trash after i take them off
