Watching this whole then the meaning of LILAC becomes even clearer. IU started her career trying to do what the others were doing as trendy at that time (and even now). Although she did really well, as we can see here, she also said that she struggled to find herself and be acknowledged for the first 2-3 years. That period is the first two sections in the LILAC video. And we could see how much brighter IU's been shining with her unique music taste afterwards when she actually set her own path and trends. IU cannot follow trends because she's busy creating her own trends. It doesn't matter if most Kpop fans like dancing catchy music, they are just drawn in to listen to singer IU singing.
