the hanfu is STUNNING, and the whole video went over so many topics that we need to talk about more within the context of all lenses through which we study history. awesome job, as always
thank you so much for making and sharing this! It's so good to see historical costuming for something other than the standard european/american ones. And as a person of chinese descent myself, your video reminds me that I should learn more about my history and that of my people.
love the non-western historical clothing and discussion of Chinese history :) I frequently feel really disconnected from my Chinese roots. and since I found your channel five minutes ago it helped me realize I can reconnect through my new hobby, sewing! I'm looking forward to your future videos and (as a suggestion) would find it really helpful if you mentioned or put your resources in the description box so that others (including me haha) can learn more about the topics covered in your video or try sewing their own historical clothing?
I love the colors you've chosen! I also loved your not historically accurate fabric statement! I can't wait to see more of your journey into Chinese historical outfits. Really gorgeous! (PLUS a little history lesson.)
this is so beautiful! both the things you made and the things you talked about human history, society and culture. it was all so inspiring, contratulations for the good job!!!! 💙
What makes this hanfu style of clothing so much more beautiful in the reveal pictures is the historical discussion through the lens of both sides of the coin, that being the culture being overtaken and the person(s) doing the overtaking. In school, I’ve always questioned the view because it was being told/taught from only one biased view, and always wondered why I questioned. Having gained experience from life i often look back at my life and discovered that my questioning was that you can’t take a 2 or 3 or multiple sided thing and discuss it from only one side or lens and believe that whole thing is being described. I often will not accept one’s view on a thing unless they’ve put in the work to not only understand but include another view from someone or something else involved on it. Because it’s that multi-dimensional view that brings the full story into focus!
I think regardless of the inaccuracy of the fabric choice as you mentioned, you made a very timeless garment. I believe it helps bring into question what the value of wearing and recreating the clothes of our ancestors does for the knowledge and understanding that is gained by making and wearing said garments. I absolutely love this and you are fine sewist. 🤗
Not only is this a lovely outfit (the colors! the soft fabrics! aaaa!!!) your commentary about how historical narratives are constructed and need to be examined was sooooo on point!!
Thank you the sewing circle feeling of this video--seeing what you were making as well as the discussion of history and how it relates to today. 🪡 Stitching and listening along. Thank you also for showing the clothes in motion.
The reveal shots are truly beautiful, the way the sun shines through the linen of the shirt and illuminates the outfit is stunning! Thank your for sharing this story!
Okay, sewing machine is awesome, those sweeping drone shots are epic, you seem to live in or near a paradise of trees, and as always, you've bad a cool thing. Thank you for sharing!
A lovely outfit that looks wonderful on you! The embroidery peeking out from behind the jacket is so pretty. The whole thing evokes a very feminine/masculine vibe to my mind, with the soft fluidity of the fabric and simple clean lines. And I really like how the utility of the skirt ties becomes decorative with their length and contrast in colour. And omg am I over analysing your work lol. 😜
i have i little list if inspiring costube videos that i watch whenever i need motivation or calming down. this just became my new favorite on that list. the powerful message of capitalism and history makes it so good (ps. the music was also EPIC, i speed-knitted the whole time as i wached this)
thank you so much! and no, this outfit is done. I would love to make some kind of Chinese historical headpiece but I'm not sure where to start with my length of hair, possibly some loose interoperation worn on a headband? we'll see
Thank you. I am forever a student relearning history of what my ancestors (white colonizers) did. Your hanfu is so well made. The sewing was mezmerising to watch while listening to your thoughts.
huh... that whole bit about colonizers, while making clothing of Han Chinese who colonized Taiwan and killed the natives there. then were conquered by Japan and forced to adopt Japanese culture. it's colonization all the way down
They did not colonized the Taiwan or kill the indigenous people, in fact, they shared dynasty ruling with the tribes of the indigenous people of Taiwan. Netherlands colonizers and Japanese invader at late 19th century, done more damage to the Taiwan, especially for those indigenous people.
It’s possible yes. My understanding is that linen and other plant fiber materials were used often by people of lower stature because they were much “cheaper”, and in the painting the person wearing this outfit is part of a music ensemble which makes me think they would be somewhere near the middle or slightly lower half of the sociopolitical hierarchy.
It's so interesting to see non-western historical clothing! Thank you for sharing these pieces, they are beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed!
Came for the clothing, stayed for the interesting thoughts on history. Thanks you! A lovely channel :)

I love the combination of vital political chat and chill sewing!
thank you!!

glad you enjoyed! Im only just beginning to learn about Chinese history myself
Tearing instead of cutting! My favorite and most accurate way when tearing across. ❤
If the fabrication is suitable of course.
Thoughts on anti-capitalism, history bias, and racism isn't the commentary I usually expect on a historical sewing video but I really appreciate it.
❤️

Ahh this looks amazing! I’m glad I’m finding more non-Western historical costumers, and I love the fabrics you chose!

I really like your point about indigenous peoples as it is something I've been thinking a lot about recently

Beautiful clothing. I agree with your narration. ❤
Every thing about this is top notch. You look stunning and so comfortable. Your commentary rings very true as well. ❤
Thanks Holly!!

Aww thanks!
The skirt is beautiful. I will figure out how to make something similar.
I've been enjoying this series a lot!
Your hair keeps getting cooler too

Gorgeous! And yes, history is always written by the victors...

🥺 wow
Hi! Do you have any resources on how to get started with hanfu? I can’t find any patterns for the qixiong ruqun, only for hanfu in the Ming dynasty :(
I have been hunting for historical clothing creators outside of Western culture. Good job, I have subscribed. I am off to watch your other videos.
Before I start the actual video, I love the new hair!
thanks!
The outfit is great and also looks really comfy :-) Plus I love how it goes with your hair!
Thank you!! 😊
Your last paragraph had me in tears. Thank you Ora

This is beautiful! Do you have the sewing pattern available?
I stumbled upon this intresting video and I am quite happy. Came for the history and beautiful clothing and stayed for the opinion :)
🤗 welcome
I really enjoyed this video 💛💛
Lovely outfit and video!
💕
Thank you.

❤️❤️
It's beautiful!
thx!
Beautiful hanfu and message
thank you
I kind of need to know how to put it on 😅
now its 1002
years old
Hi what are the pleat sizes please
huh... that whole bit about colonizers, while making clothing of Han Chinese who colonized Taiwan and killed the natives there. then were conquered by Japan and forced to adopt Japanese culture. it's colonization all the way down
yeah. yeah it is

Would this outfit be made out of silk historically?
It’s possible yes. My understanding is that linen and other plant fiber materials were used often by people of lower stature because they were much “cheaper”, and in the painting the person wearing this outfit is part of a music ensemble which makes me think they would be somewhere near the middle or slightly lower half of the sociopolitical hierarchy.
只拍摄细节,没整体。最后的穿着,带个假发也行。感觉像没大纲的流水账。
More how-to han-fu ....less sociology
