They way it works in the US is we have a very litigious culture and if any corporation is making money it will get sued into oblivion. As it is they were paying fines of $200/day. They had 10,000 tons of oilfield waste on site and that sounds like a lot but a single semi load is about 40 tons, so only about 250 semi trucks of waste. I'm guessing the owners were simply ignorant to the extent of trouble they would be in for accepting that much waste and they probably did not rake in millions of dollars for it. If they got $2000 per semi load for the waste that's only $500,000 total and with 30+ employees that's basically only 3 months of payroll.

@gorkyd7912 this is typical of the fossil energy industry. I live on an island group nearest land fall to the North Sea oilfields. We have tones and tones of highly toxic and radioactive waste buried at various locations throughout the islands. But we all drive cars so I guess we all pay the price.

Look at how the ODNR was formed, it was intentionally formed in a way to NOT be accountable and to NOT regulate. Lobbyists win again, they always do. @@RichardCostello-ls9zgOhio has always been red, hence the reason this is being exposed in Ohio but not in say New York or California. This is what happens when greed is left free reign. I mean at the present the republican party is slightly better for the average American, while the democratic party is largely just evil. Unfortunately though both parties are primarily dependent solely upon the establishment, bureaucracy, the wealthy. No matter how you cut it the rich are, in general, the evil villian's. The poor and working class should truly come together to fight those who would wish to abuse us, unfortunately again there are too many selfish people amongst us. Just look at this last election, lots and lots of people voted for the "right" to murder babies and to give pee doughs the "right" to traumatize the children they couldn't murder... so this isn't all that surprising at this point. And fracking is such an expensive operation that the government has to SUBSIDIZE them {w/taxpayer funds}.
... Then there's the water 💧 waste issue, they use huge amounts of otherwise good water in order to frack, that water becomes toxic because of the chemicals that are added to it during the fracking process.

Fracking is done on shale which contains high levels of radio active radon and radon gas. It's in all the drill cuttings from drilling the well. That's besides the toxic chemicals and known carcinogens injected into the rock to help release the methane and other gasses.
I worked for years on campaigns to ban fracking in our city of Buffalo, then our county of Erie, and ultimately a ban on fracking for our state of New York. Then I moved to Pennsylvania, frack central! We were surrounded by fracking and all the toxicity that comes with it. My gf worked for the PA-DEP in the "clean water department". We really tried hard to get a ban on fracking in Pennsylvania but many of the locals are far too brainwashed by gas and oil propaganda and truly believe that it's a good thing, even though their drinking water is sometimes flammable.

    • @nari5161

They can have a "plan," they can have (lobbied for) regulations, but standard practice is for a mining company to operate as a shell that goes bankrupt when everything that can be extracted has been and before vital cleanup is dealt with. Legislative bodies need teeth against weaseling practices, or there needs to be an environmental tax on production in industries with this kind of issue to fund government cleanup efforts, because more often than not companies do not contend with their waste. There's article "Millions of Leaky and Abandoned Oil and Gas Wells Are Threatening Lives and the Climate." I saw a vid on the challenge of capping abandoned natural gas mines, can't find it now.

Hasn’t this been the case all over our country, from the beginning? You could give a pass to the first 100 years lacking the knowledge to understand it. The last 150 years there is no excuse. I worked in the oil fields in the 80’s. Aside from putting a little casing in the ground supposedly to protect ground water ( a joke) there was 100% exposure to everything that went into the ground and what came out of it. It’s still in heaping piles of tailings (pulverized rock and soils, salt water included) all over any oil field anywhere in America.
That’s before fracking even occurs. It’s all a scam, every heavy industry is lobbied for and no responsibility comes, ever.
    Drill baby drill?
What an absolute insane proposition without hard enforcement of tight regulations and monitoring with heavy fines, real time. Not after the money is sucked out and they’ve left town.

As someone born and raised in the Ohio River Valley. I'm not at all surprised. But am extremely pissed off. Rich people have always been able to dangle a little bit of money in front of poor people to get what they want. They line the pockets of politicians and get regulations loosened or just pay regulators to look the other way. I understand wanting to get jobs and money into an area. But when the jobs are killing people, that money has blood on it.
We need more stories like this seen by the people who these practices are affecting. There are too many people who don't know what goes on around them. Either by willful ignorance because they're getting paid. Or by cover-ups by the people in power. Regardless, we have to do something immediately. Otherwise we're all going to die in agony and regret

I see your channel name and guess what? Artificial intelligence and robotics are supposed to be for the most dangerous even deadly jobs. I helped develop the 1st generation cell phone system - it was supposed to be for emergency crews like fire, police, and ambulance. Hijacked by greedy, spoiled brats, C suite execs compromising principles that built their companies, and foolish politicians willing to sell out for a cushy job after their terms of office. Phones are not for games and endless, mindless chatter. Robotics are not to replace workers with cheap labor.
