- A nice day out in the summer sun at Ely. I think I done a good job of capturing the aura of Ely. A quiet town with a larger than life cathedral that just happens to have a rail junction or two. Passenger trains mainly consist of units of some description and the days freights were unfortunately a host of 66's. However, I feel this video remains to be a spectacle of movements, if only for the decoration, scenery and flowers. The station has an unusual layout of tracks with a level crossing right next to it. I walked up to the Ipswich junction to get different angles. Was a nice walk by the canal. Ely comes very highly recommended to station buffs and line siders. Arrived 09:00 and went home about 19:00. Thanks for watching I hope you enjoy the ride.
Ely connects to Peterborough going West, Kings Lynn going north, Ipswich going West, Cambridge, Hitchin, Stansted and London (Liverpool St, Kings X) south.
Excellent video Richard, enjoyed watching that. The different angles and lovely backdrop more than made up for the constant flow of 66's and units. Will have to try Ely soon.
With my channel I aim to take the viewer on an adventure in each upload. I will not rest a tripod down and just shoot whatever goes past. The idea is to feel "you've been there" and I will admit my steady hands, slightly expensive camera and an eye for an angle delivers that spectacle. Thanks for your comment.
Excellent video ive been wanting to see a more up to date video as I was planning on a trip down to Ely been doing alot at Barnetby lately all nighters as im not far away from there and I was reading a comment further down Barnetby has an intensive freight flow all day and night it never stops great place and there are a fair few 60's go through but most of those come at night
Many memories of Ely from when I was based up the line near Kings Lynn in the late 60s/early 70s. Always had to change at Ely when coming back off leave via Peterborough to get to Lynn. A couple of lines were closed from Lynn around that time, among them the line to Hunstanton. I recall trips to Liverpool St with 31s or 47s.
Hi Paul, glad you like my style. I have decided to come up to Barnetby in September weather permitting.
Great video!
Thanks for the comment. Its great to see after over 1 year this video still gets interest and credit. I hope I can keep up the quality with future productions.
I have a list of stations I want to visit. The 2 you mention have held interest but are not a priority. Next up is probably Warrington. I will do Ipswich before I do Barnetby as its a lot farther away.
I done Ipswich this week, will upload on Saturday. Barnetby I have scheduled for Thursday 10th of October. I don't usually do requests, but upon investigation felt they were worth my while. :)
Taking a quick look most freight goes through ipswich between 10am and 5pm. Probably 15-25 in total depending on how many are cancelled. You also have the station side sidings which usually have some locos parked up. Looking at Barnetby, it seems to have an absolute cluster of freight all day long. Looking at prices of fares I might actually change my mind and go there afterall. Less than £30 return ain't bad at all.
super video. Could u do Barnetby r Ipswitch
Nice one mate. How often can freight be seen at Ipswitch
