Such a shame that the original line up could not keep it together. Fun fact: the cover of 'Slave To The Grind' is a large painting by Sebastian's father. Love their first 2 albums. Incredible.
Thanks for showing this off. I was worried that this would be those slim cardboard things where they just throw the discs in a box, but I really like that these are full artwork digipaks. I'll be picking this up for sure.
That's a nice simple package, well worth the money. They could've put Beggars Day in there though, & also that originally unreleased song from the hits collection (forget the song title). Great review👍
I agree, that’s the missed opportunity. A few bonus tracks would have put it over the top. But Im glad the left the tracks from the Greatest Hits there so they album remains special.
Hi Brendon…excellent ! My vinyl copy of the boxset arrived today also. Sub Human Race has really grown on me over the years. Love all of these albums. I never owned B Sides and never knew the live ep existed . So great they are included. Thanks Brendon. Chez
I image for most this box will be the first time they are getting the 2 ep’s. So I’m glad they are included and back in print now. Enjoy your vinyl copy!
Nice video man 👍🏼 Clarify to us all before the purchasing of this box set. I didnt know about the Jap live EP. But Im still waiting a reissue with demos like the Whitesnake’s box sets ( really really cool hard rock binge 😂 ) Thanks to you I decided to buy the Skid Row box set. Keep doin’ the great work. Greetings from Perú 🇵🇪
Nice box, thanks for showing it. I have the first two albums on vinyl, the b side ep on vinyl and the third album on tape. Thats why its a nice item to have all the stuff on cd plus the japanish ep too.
Great job on putting out a video on the same day when new music material comes out definitely appreciate that. Don't know how this flew underneath my radar but it did and that's why I subscribe so you can keep me in the music loop when life gets busy. Thanks again
Hi Sean, glad to hear my channel is keeping you up yo date including things like this that might have run under the radar. I know all about life getting busy. It certainly happens. Have a good weekend!
I was bummed that Slave To The Grind didn’t include Beggar’s Day as well, but it’s still worth owning. I pre-ordered it and picked it up on Friday, sounds great.
Yeah it kind of boggles the mind. A perfect opportunity to add something extra to the album. But maybe they are holding it back for a rarities type boxset. We can hope and dream!
@@BrendonSnyder Ive gotten the impression as a viewer/fan from your start that you are the kind of listener that will give stuff time/a fair shake. A "serious" music guy like many of us who gather to watch and comment.Sunbhuman Race (for me) increased in stature over listens and time, Bob Rock's production on this is face ripping.
Hey there, How does the remaster sound in comparison to the originals? Did you see Sebastian had reviewed the 30th RSD Vinyl of STTG? I wonder what he'd say about this one :)
The sound quality for debut sounds a lot better. Much crisper and less muddy. Slave To The Grind is also better sounding brighter in areas. Subhuman Race sounds the same to me. I haven’t compared the EP’s.
Just been listening to the last disc of this set - Subhuman Beings On Tour EP, which is why I purchased the set. Wow! The energy of Bach and the band is amazing, such a shame Bach was fired. Sounds like the gig was in London, would like to hear the whole concert without edits. I think Skid Row could have gone on to make other great albums with Bach and still remained relevant despite the grunge era and gained GnR level status. Bach is possibly the greatest rock vocalist to have ever graced planet earth.
Hello, I have all 3 original albums and the B-sides on vinyl I've been a Skid Row fan for many years one of the first vinyl records I started collecting was Skid Row If I had to choose one as my favorite I would have to say Slave is my favorite but I love all 3.
Cool unboxing Brendon, i don't own any Skid Row on cd, just the second one on cassette, so this can be a great chance to get their albums at once, btw my only gripe --> digipacks!!! cheers and be well
So I lost my collection in a flood years ago and I mostly had cassette tapes from my childhood but I did have cds and I just haven't been able to get much since but I've slowly been getting movies and TV again and I love physical media so I've been wanting to rebuild my music but being handicap I'm very limited so do I get a few albums (cds) here and there? Or get something like this because I saw Motley Crue has one for a good price and this might be the way to go? I only remember the first 2 albums. I'm sure I'll remember other songs? But I'm debating on this set now? I don't know if it's still available and cheap like some of the other ones I've seen but is the quality good? These sets seem the way to go for me? So many I want from this era as this is all I still listen to! Cinderella Dokken White Lion Whitesnake Metallica and so on.
The boxsets are good deals. Often you’re getting bonus material too like the Live EP in this boxset that was a Japanese only release when it first came out. If you buy the albums individually you may get them cheaper used but they won’t be remastered. You just have to weigh what the boxset offers verses finding each album individually to know which is right for you.
@@BrendonSnyder Thanks for the input. I just replaced those same Albums on CD - were on cassette lol. Was hoping for remasters of those first 2! Think I will pick them up.
personally i loved the first & second albums, but after that they kinda lost me... didnt care for that grungy one... each to their own & all that... but i admit i bought both versions of slave because i wanted beggars day... thanx for the video man
I love that the CDs are in digipak cases versus those cardboard vinyl replica cases because they look so boring. Plus, sliding the CD in and out of the cardboard case is not good for the disc. I'd rather have jewel cases, but in my past experience with Amazon, the digipak CD cases usually don't arrive to my house cracked (versus the jewel cases). I have the band's debut album, but I heard that the two studio albums afterwards are an improvement from that first one.
Personally I like the debut album best. But the 2nd album is really good too. The 3rd album has a much different sound from the first 2 but has grown on me over the years.
@@BrendonSnyder People hear things differently. I remember The Contrarians talked about the third album and someone said it was their favorite Skid Row album (I believe).
It’s put out by Atlantic with Rhino Records and distributed by BMG. It’s a US release. Mine came direct from the label. Mastering is really good. Big different to the debut.
This looks like a winner. I still think Cinderella’s 2020 “The Mercury Years” 5 disc box set is very tough to beat for it’s remastered content, rarities and price.
Great video Brendon. I'm a big Skid Row fan, waiting for mine to come in. I'm a little disappointed there is no extra/B sides or unrelease tracks but I'm sure the remastered version will sound great. Speaking of remasters, do you know if Cinderella has ever did a remaster for Night Songs? Thanks, keep up the great work!
Awesome review, but don’t know if I’ll get this. I own the Japan Remastered versions that include the remastered albums with better bonus tracks. The Japanese edition of Slave to the Grind included a remastered album with 4 bonus tracks. I actually showed this to Bach on his bus after a show and he was shocked about it.
I love Japanese pressing, both vinyl in CD. Sadly I wasn't collecting record when I lived in Japan, and most of the CDs I bought while I was there were American pressings because they were a lot cheaper.
I pre-ordered the vinyl version, which should arrive by 12/10. I have an original and previous reissue of the debut (the latter signed by R. Affusso) and an original pressing of Slave to the Grind, but still wanted the box for Subhuman Race and the other material. I’m hoping that the Slave to the Grind LP is superior to the one released last year for RSD, which is generally considered to be subpar (Bach made a UA-cam video comparing that one to the original).
I suspect that, given the price, this would only really be attractive to collectors or new fans. I've got everything there except the Japanese live E.P., and I'm not paying for that. Still, nice to see what's included.
Depends. Some want the new packaging, the remastering, and the Live EP. Lot’s of fans only have one or two of the albums so this makes a nice way to get it all at once.
It will always be Slave . The ass kickers like Living on Chain Gang , Grind and Monkey , but then the ballads . Wasted Time and Darkened Room , way better than I’ll Remember You ..
No it does not. There seems to be some confusion over if the albums are or are not remastered. In different publications it either says they are remastered or there is no mention at all. So far nothing has said they are not remastered. But the first two albums sound remastered to me. They are louder, brighter, and clearer than the original releases.
I’ve read statements to the effect the albums are remastered. The debut has much better sound, Slave has somewhat better sound. And Subhuman sounds the same to me. The other 2 discs I’ve not yet compared.
I know Rachael Bolen talks a lot of shit about Sebastian over the years but those albums wouldn't be the same without his amazing vocals. And those albums would have had a whole different feel if John Corabi had been the singer.
You’re exactly right Evan! Skid Row would probably not be thought of or talked about the same way if Sebastian Bach had not sung on those albums. His vocals are what put the band into a whole other realm.
I have the originals on cd and vinyl so won’t be getting this…I would if they had included the 10 songs that didn’t make the debut album (walk with a stranger, shame shame, edge of the night, behind the 8 ball etc) on a bonus LP/CD
Maybe those are being saved for a rarities box. The band has talked about this in the past. I would expect Beggar’s Day would be include if they do it.
@@BrendonSnyder I think it’s because the band don’t own the rights to their albums yet. I think they get the rights to debut next year. The band haven’t promoted any of these re-releases ( that I’ve seen) which tells us something.
