This interview is the first that I've seen perfectly present the evolution of Janelle as an artist and person. So many people are acting so thrown off by where she is now, but Zach and Janelle took the time to glide through her journey. Also, I loved the exploration of her music and personal growth that was shared in this video. And Janelle and Zach expressing their love and adoration for one another.
Yes, as someone who’s never been a fan but watched from afar, this is a spectacular intro / guide thru her artistry. I feel like I need to listen to all her albums before the new one comes out tomorrow.
@@SZAliaBanks You should. Her first two albums, in particular, have stellar lyrical content, instrumentation and production. The story of Cindi Mayweather, the android character who she created for those albums, is very creative as well. It's been interesting and entertaining to see her progress beyond that with her most recent two albums; but I do hope that she returns to Cindi at some point in some form.
I'm a Janelle Monae STAN!!!!!! I'm not part of the LGBTQ+ fam (but I am supporter in memory of my brother) but BBBBAAAABBBYYYYYY this chapter I'm here for, let me go find some confidence to go see this show ❤❤❤ 💄💋💄💋💄💋💄💋💄
May Your brother’s beautiful spirit continue to dance!🕊️ So excited for this Age that we’re in!! Speaking wildness into the possibility of Stanning with You at a show! - A#32863 💋
I've been identifying as pansexual since I was 16, which was a time when I was feeling so alone and ostracized. When I found Janelle and started to follow her journey, I saw so much of her in me and I knew she was someone special. When she came out as pan it was a turning moment for more people to learn and understand pansexuality. More people in my life were open to learning who I am. I saw her Dirty Computer tour 3 times, I even got to go onstage and I met her at a meet and greet. She inspires me so much to be a free ass muthafucka. Dirty Computer was my soundtrack when it came out. So many gems that allowed me to feel free in my body as a black, queer woman. I'll be 30 this year. I look back on those tough times as a teenager and am so glad I had her music to get me through and to feel like someone understood me. Janelle is a treasure ❤
“I’ve gone through life not always feeling safe to explore all of me” I feel this so much. Exactly this. Damn I needed to hear that put Into words that I couldn’t find to describe what I feel and that was it. Thank you Janelle. Wow
Dirty computer was magical and excellent to me especially the film version. I’m so glad someone is able to reassure Janae how amazing that album was. Black creative magic yall pls get into the genres of it all
Zach's interviews are great because he is a true fan of these people. It's not one of those interviews where he had to go research the person and listen to their discography at the last minute, he knows their art. It's amazing to watch honestly.... truly 💅
The fact he pointed out my fav moment in the Archandroid with 57821.... whew he is a kindred spirit...the melody she sings at the end of that song makes me cry
Zach... baybay, we are sooo proud of YOU!!! I’m literally tearing up, and to hear how much Janelle loves you ♥️♥️ she is literally part of the TiredAssArmy 😌👏🏽🙌🏽✨
Listen, my 2 year old has to listen to "Float" everyday since it dropped. It is literally his comfort song. I love Janelle and so proud of Zach. This is the perfect interview.
I just love how you’re both just vibing and having such a great time! I just listened to the album, and it will be on repeat! Faves are “Float,” “Lipstick Lover,” and “A Dry Red.” 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This interview was the most interactive interview I've seen Janelle do since this album came out. It was fun, informative and gave me new insight into who Janelle is. I luv everything she does ftom day 1. But there's something 'The age of pleasure' that resonates in me and satisfies this hostile political climate. I already ordered the Vinyl, CD, and digital! 💯 Amazing artistry and musician period! ❤
Because of this video I clicked play on “Float” for the first time, and it brought me to TEARS. I’m in my own stage of discovery right now, a stage of searching for my own liberation. Hearing you both speak about your journeys to finding that is EXACTLY what I needed to hear. The timing was DIVINE. Thank you both for this gem of a video I really needed to see it at this time.
I really appreciate that he asked about Janelle's pronouns, for clarity's sake. Far too many people still refuse to use nonbinary pronouns just because they're used to thinking in just "he or she". As Janelle explains, "she/her" is also okay for her, but "they/them" is just as valid and should not be neglected.
As a fan of Janelle since I was a little boy this is just such an amazing evolution to witness. Like I literally based a whole song and almost had a whole Andriod era when I became an artist because of Janelle! Mark my words one day I’m going to work with them and also show them the song they inspired me to make in my days of exploring my sound!! 😫🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😩😩😩
Thank you Janelle for releasing this instrument of liberation that is this album and thank you Zach + Janelle for creating a space for each other and for all of us watching to continue to explore our queerness and inherent freedom
Zachary is really out here doing it! As someone whose been watching you since you moved from house to professional studio, this is amazing & I'm immensely proud + excited for you! I've also been a Janelle Monáe fan since ArchAndroid & this couldn't have been a better interview I love y'all down 😭👏🏾✨
im so freakin happy for u zach. also janelle looks so stunning.... i didnt think i could get any gayer coming back after watching the full video, & i gotta say, as a nonbinary person of colour, janelle is so important to me. a role model not just for art, but for LIFE. to unapologetically be myself, & surround myself with people who wanna grow with me. i love them so freakin much
Yes, Mushrooms and Roses is the place for me!!!!!!! Janelle is such an Artist’s artist! Age of Pleasure is such beautiful soundtrack. I feel like it’s message also double as an ode to self love. So affirming and wavy.
I had kind of heard of Janelle when she did that song with FUN but I hadn't really looked into her until I randomly saw the Pink music video when I was tripping. It literally changed my LIFE. Dirty Computer is so fucking incredible musically and visually. I told everyone I knew about it. I showed them the emotion picture, her other songs, interviews, I literally could not stop talking about it for a while. I cannot get enough of Janelle. I'm SO IN LOVE with this new album!! It is beautiful and free!! I'm in love with her, her creativity, her fucking art, everything!! Thank you for this interview and THANK YOU, JANELLE, FOR BEING YOU❤❤❤
they are absolutely one of my favorite artists! got to see her in 2013 at the Hard Rock in Orlando with my now hubby, n my mom and when she told everyone to get on their knees, she told my mom to keep standing. lifelong fanfrom that moment of respecting my momma ❤
I definitely been rocking with Janelle since Tightrope and Neon Street Valley (giving me Andre 3000 and Lauryn Hill vibes on the second song)... But yeah she's a whole vibe and so much more!!! 💖💖💖
Baby Cold War made me cry for DAYS when I was a kid. God bless you Janelle Monae! You truly have blessed so many people with your beautiful music and art 💗💗💗
This lady is one of my favorite favorite favorite artists of literally all time. I've been following her since her audition album back in 03 when I discovered her music altogether in 2007 This wonderful HUMAN has inspired me for many of my adult years from the myspace day up until now and baby for y'all to have this beautiful love for eachother has me in tears because BOTzh of y'all are so Beautiful and BRAVE and Talented. There is such a bigger message at hand that everyone is missing and that is we are all human, we are all gods goddesses and we are all creatures that are creative creations that have truly embraced creation as our life journey and destiny. We all have all lot to say and the more y'all challenge yourselves, the more y'all challenge us to take the charge and make ourselves better as humans and as an artist!!! I love y'all both immensely ❤❤❤❤❤❤

this interview with you as the interviewer is such a damn gift, thank you so sooo much!!! ive been following Janelle Monae since her Archandroid days and the questions you asked her + your chemistry and love for one another makes this so so speical. I've seen some of your other vids in the past, but this one hit a specific way and fills me with so much **JOYY** thank youu thank youuu
I saw JM in San Francisco on my bday. She jumped off stage and danced her beautiful grace dead in front of me. I'm over 6ft, and he is not kidding when he said she is so tiny. If I had permission I would have cradled her until she had had enough. We already know however that she may be small in stature but is mighty in spirit. She touched my hand with all her black magic. Best bday present ever!
Thank you for this video. I've just discovered Archandroid and have cried my eyes out listening to 57821. This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I didn't want it to stop! Love ya Janelle Monae!
I am totally late seeing this but Zach, baybeeeee….this was truly amazing, enjoyable and most off all enlightening!! ((Side note - her sipping the last of that capri sun with no hands was toooo adorable))….I appreciate her entire spirit and energy ❤❤❤❤❤
This video was everything. I was raised by my grandparents too God rest their precious souls because they gave me so much wisdom and freedom to explore who I am as a.person and I will love them forever for that. I can relate to Zach with that. It was the best years of my life with them.
Zachh, love you down baby and so proud of you and your growth but allow me to give just a lil constructive criticism...i think sometimes you get really excited and tend to cut off/interrupt the guest when they're speaking, and I know this is not on purpose and you may not even notice you're doing it but I noticed it quite a few times in the interview. Hope you don't take this the wrong way, just want you to elevate and get better and better with each interview. Much love from Kenya 💛
Zach is winning rn with Ms. Monae she’s so so iconic. We need Keke Palmer next
keke and zach is a MUST!!!!

Much love from Kenya 💛
that aside tho, i thoroughly enjoyed this interview, we stand a genre-fluid, multi-faceted being!!
As someone who has every vinyl! I’m soo excited for this video!
