This is the clearest explanation on UA-cam. Great presentation, clear speech , direct to the point. Your use of the large drawing on the white board is great for a laptop screen or even a phone. You have good teaching skills. Job very well done.!. Real views of wires being attached and commentary excellent

Thank You for this Video. In our factory we only had two 120 Volt Motors that ran off of Drum Controller. Most of the time if a Motor had to be run off of a Drum Controller it was a 440 Volt Three Phase Motor. You made this very clear ! Thank You for your efforts and attention to detail !

I have a motor with the same wiring as this video and a drum switch with the same configuration as this one. I am trying to wire it in 220V single phase but can not get it to run in both directions with the drum switch. can you please help me. I watch your 220 volt video but it has a different drum switch wiring configuration. Maybe I need to get a different drum switch but I would like your recommendation first. Great video you do an out standing job. Thank you.

Nicely done Imat.. it obviously works.. but i would have thought looking at the diagram that T2 T4 and T6 would have been isolated not not connected to line 2 as it doesn't have a connecting line coming out of it like the other group does.

Very, very useful video. I'm using an AB drum switch and a 1/3 hp Leeson motor that will be run on 120v.Could you tell me what gauge will I need to connect the switch to the motor? Also, mine has a jumper strip between 6 and 4 on the drum switch. Does that represent a different approach to wiring, and can I remove that jumper and do it the way you show? Very grateful for any help you have time to share!

      Hi,
I never seen the type of drum switch you are working with. There might be a different way to wire it. I’d have to look at and possibly research it to answer that question. It might be similar to the other drum switches videos I’ve made.
I would recommend looking into sizing wire for motors because there are a lot of variables, but I have used some online calculators that have given me the same answer as doing it long hand. I would just google those calculators.

Amazing timing. I have a very similar motor that I am hoping to install to replace a cooked one on a lathe I bought. Mine has a T5 (otherwise EVERYTHING else on this same Vevor motor is the same) which is supposed to be Line 1. The T3/T4/T7/T9 bundle wants to be bonded to eachother and insulated otherwise.

I have a Leeson 1/2 hp motor. It has P1, P2, T2, T3, T4, T5, T8 wires. In the 110vac configuration P1 goes to line, P2 , T3, T8 are Taped, T2, T4, T5 are line. T5 and T8 are the wires that are interchanged in order to reverse rotation. I have a Dayton Drum switch that has the L , and upside down L configuration. Top to bottom on the switch would be 1 and 2, then 3 and 4, and then 5 and 6. Forward configuration would be 1,2, and 3 / 4,5, and 6. In reverse 1,2 and 4 / 3,5 and 6. So how do you wire this 7-wire single phase motor? Just trying to hook up my lathe so I have forward and reverse without burning up a motor. Great videos!

How can I wire a limit switch on the reverse side but still have the forward still work, once the reverse is limited out? That's a cool project and problem. I'm not saying it's impossible but most of my experience with these switches is for lathes. I think to add more control capabilities you would need to move/add to a basic motor control or PLC. I wish I could help but there are limitations with the amount of contacts of the switch and 120v motors. I hope you find a way to do it.
