way way ahead of their time..anyone who wears two pairs of sunglasses over a balaclava and mimes to their own song in a white boilersuit deserves 5 stars!!!..simply sensational!!! love telex
I used to sample about 30 seconds of this song for a break for the next song , it was always a clean mix even though no one knew then at the parties , drove ppl crazy .
I remember first hearing this on Radio One and was knocked out by it: I was 13 and thought they were singing "Daisy Of Circle Bay" LOL The only other person I ever heard mention it was Gary Numan, who said in an interview how much he loved it, so I knew I was in good company :) I hadn't heard it in all these years, so I check out UA-cam and there is this brilliant video - love it!!
The background video graphics were created on the EMS Spectron Video Synthesizer. Twin audio-modulated shapes have been combined using the A and B outputs producing an exclusive OR (XOR) pattern - like a checkerboard effect. The shapes react to the music in real-time!
@@JeffreyPlaide EMS spectron i's a great machine in used by RTL productions since 1977 by rené stechen pioneer in the sevenies and remember this ....childhood memories !
so many memories with this and all their other stuff, ...definitely up there with jean michel jarre, kraftwerk , Gary Numan, John Foxx..led to much awesomeness.
I remember as a boy wondering, and hoping, that there might be a fusion of The Residents and DeVo. Thank goodness there is. Beautiful - just wish they had taken apart more pop songs.
I first heard this on a beach in the south of France in the late 1970's - sun, wine and girls in bikinis - not a bad song to dance to in those days :-) The other popular song at the time was Video killed the radio star by Buggles. All that was missing was Gary Numan - Are friends electric?
Daft Punk hun mosterd vandaan haalden ...?
I first saw this video in 1999 on a rerun of a 1979 episode of an Australian pop show called "Countdown" and I thought it was quite an interesting video and such a high tech sound for its day. Later on I listened to more of their material and they are absolutely impressive, especially Dan Lacksman's earlier work "Disco Machine" under the name Electronic System recorded 1977, it sounded light years ahead of its time and equally as futuristic sounding as Giorgio Moroder's "From Here To Eternity" album. Speaking of Disco Machine, this song is based off the track "Rock Machine" on the Disco Machine album ua-cam.com/video/lBgmVkriZx0/v-deo.html . Anyhow I recorded that Countdown show and have this "Twist A St Tropez" video in much higher quality.
Wow this is probably the coolest track ive heard in years!! Im just visualizing myself in a yellow suit driving a bright red ferarri with the roof back and a big moustache lol
It's hightime a career-spanning box set with all albums + rarities + b-sides + bonus DVD with all promo videos be released . Come EMI get of your bum! :-)
Not on this one, since the '808 didn't hit the market until late 1980. Might have been the '808's "grandpa" the Roland CR78. The first studio album with an '808 on it may have been Yellow Magic Orchestra's BGM, released in March of 1981.

Telex is one of the best electronic bands ever! This song is groovy!
Great ironic masterpiece!!! Telex is still one of my favorite band!
Are you alive bro?

Still can't believe this track is from 1978.Waaay ahead of their time.If you like this check Dan Lacksman 'Disco Machine'.Released in 1976!
This is actually a cover of a song by Les Chats Sauvage, one of the early French rock bands.
This track is a trip….I love it…🎹
Been looking for this song for years :D I remember it from when I was a kid!
so funky yet so ahead of its time. Cool!
The graphics in this video are just amazing.

I think Plastic Bertrand borrowed it for Ca Plane Por Moi
Der perfekte Synthesizer-Popsong! Sogar besser als von ihren Vorbildern Kraftwerk!

1978! Wow! Incroyable pour les anees 70's!
Hilarious video, playful song, 😍
I remember as a boy wondering, and hoping, that there might be a fusion of The Residents and DeVo. Thank goodness there is. Beautiful - just wish they had taken apart more pop songs.
wtf are you talking about their entire career was built on taking apart pop songs, they've literally done like a hundred
Best. Choreography. Ever. :)

NewWAVE moest nog beginnen NA disco, NewWAVE noemde van laat 78 tot 80 post-punk , allemaal meegemaakt trouwens ..
i fell in love with Telex after seeing this video! genius!!
I LOVE TELEX ANALOG SYNTH and SENSE OF HUMOUR APPROACH ;)
Take a look at what the leader, Marc Moulin, did, a few years ago. It was a great jazzman. And a great humorist in Belgium.
before Telex came out there was no real music.
The world started in 1977 and ended in 2007.
I remember this summer tune in Frejus, Cote d'Azur
Viva la France !
The Belgian Kraftwerk?
Elitist20 erano pari ai kraftwerk...anche se secondo me erano più bravi i telex!!!
These are the guys who tried to come last in Eurovision - total originals. How many pop bands would write a song called "We are all getting old"?
And they only came second last (in 1980)
Nagyon jó és régi kis zene!
The clip is just
So toll - Wirklich klasse
telex and analogic video synthetiser .......great mix !
Jolly smashing, what?
I love these guys.
awesome electropop late 70s french too love it

Outstanding!!!!!
I sang Ca Plane Pour Moi over this and it fits perfectly
Love this video
poor Telex!
sandwiched between the past
(Kraftwerk) and the near future
(Depeche Mode)
Nice tune!
Why didn't overalls, tie, balaclava and two sets of glasses take off as a fashion trend? :-)

I bet Koji Kondo listened to this before composing the SMB3-soundtrack! ;)

@@inversion66 I know the TR-808 didn't exist back then, but the sound is very similar

This reminds me of The Residents somehow.
This comment is way more interesting than the ones about Kraftwerk.
lol mindrape :D
haha the whistling part :D
Multiplied sunglasses tell me, Telex invented a certain Leigh Bowery :)
No fun twist. I like it.
c'est du Jean-Christophe Averty la vidéo?
Same here!
Electronique et pataphysique ? De l'humour,c'est sûr.

Clearly inspired by Le Gendarme series.
