Unbelievable mistake by Joe Pa to not run that ball in, Blair Thomas hadn't been stopped in 45 yards of straight draw plays.

All they had to do was run it one more time .... but 1979 was looming in paternos mind . I was numb for hours .

Typical Paterno game. Boring, predictable offense. Settling for FGs when they should have TDS. Losing games that were very winnable.

I was at this game. Drove up with two friends. On the way back to car a dejected PSU fan blurted out loud to no one in particular, "Why does Alabama always beat us like this?" A young Bama fan walking nearby spoke up and said "Because we pray before the games." I laughed because I was thinking the same thing.

Blair Thomas scored the play before the blocked FG, nobody can tell me otherwise

Not even close. Penn State cheated us in 1983.

Really miss these starting line-up intros where we get a head shot, height and weight. Not sure why they ever stopped showing headshots.

WHAT THE HEN. Blair Thomas was running great. You have it on the 1 foot line. I remember this game, I'm still pissed.

As a Penn State fan, this was one of the most devastating losses for me. They had the game won. It still stings today.

@@steve19390 This is typical of the kind of crazy crap that always used to happen to Paterno and State versus Bama. 1978, the boys play like crap on offense but the defense keeps us in it, Scott Fitzkee ties the game, only for one devastating punt return (against the Scrap Pack, our best ever punt coverage team) and a the goal line stand to happen. 1981, we were easily the actual best team in the country but manage to get goal line standed again. 1982, we win the national title but lose 42-21 to Alabama - a game we should have won but Bama took control after we PUNTED THE BALL INTO OUR OWN BLOCKERS (aka Butt Punt). 1989, Blair Thomas has a heroic effort and some giant from Bama blocks it. 2011, we're up 3-0, the defense is confident, and we stuff Alabama on a Saban fake punt call but the refs give Alabama a ridiculous spot and they take control.
I don't miss Penn State's luck against Alabama.

Blair Thomas was bulldozing in that last drive. I would have lined up and let him finish. And I'm a Bama fan.

Always appreciated and liked CBS College Football Coverage from 1987-1990. They did such a great job of intros. Watched this on tv and was amazed at the ending.

Thank you again for this forgotten classic. Another forgotten classic is the 2002 bama/oklahoma game in Norman. May be the most exciting game I’ve ever watched. Lots of crazy momentum swings. Just as a football fan, you should check it out. This game is crazy throughout from opening kickoff to last seconds. Really enjoyed this and thanks for uploading. Means a lot. Hope 2002 OU/Bama game is still on youtube. Haven’t checked for it in a while. These vids youve been doing of out of conference matches made me think about these.

That is one of my favorites too, and I'm a Bama fan. Would've won had ball not slipped out of Watts' hand there at end.

SteelBuck 6, thank you for another great game upload! Curt Warner, D.J. Dozier, Blair Thomas--I miss those old school PSU running backs. Little known fact: Siran Stacey was named after Siran Wrap. No joke.

I was in PS Blue Band that day and that was most crushing loss of my school years. Blair Thomas couldn't be stopped that final drive. Then UGH!

    • @mr.g1758

Looks like he was running so hard on last play he fell forward. Ball was literally on the 1 foot line. They'd have scored had they run another play, but out of timeouts and if stopped the game would have ended cause PSU couldn't stop the clock.
