I was out 2 weeks ago with my girlfriend and a couple friends of ours celebrating her birthday. A guy from the booth across shouted over to me ‘what the f**k are you looking at?’ He clearly had a few drinks and was looking for a fight. I replied ‘I’m not looking at you. I don’t want any trouble’. I was very embarrassed the fact this happened in front of my gf and I guess theres folk who wouldn’t let anyone speak to them like that and get away with it but everyone was having a good time I didn’t want to ruin it. Towards the end of the night the guy came over to apologise to me and we shook hands. I’m glad I rose above it and just tried to defuse the situation.

I was slashed down the centre of my left nipple many years ago. I didn't pose any threat, I didn't know this group of lads, it wasn't some turf thing. I was 13, my first time in Leeds city centre alone. I don't know if or why I may or not have been targeted. There was never any closure (don't know if anyone was arrested). Just a cheque for £50. I have never gotten over what happened. If I spot a group of kids or adults, I walk the long way round. Now 50 and still can't go to Leeds on my own. In fact, it is very rare I go into the city without good reason. I'm past looking for answers. Just thought I'd share. 👍🙏TY to anyone who reads.

The only thing that needs to be understood is that the human mammal is a severely flawed and defective creature. Some more than others. Fortunately the majority of us are decent, civil, reasonable human beings, even when young. You just got unlucky to encounter some who aren't in that category. It is what it is and you can't change that. But you can live the rest of your life with the assurance that it won't happen again. Fate has not singled you out to be a target. Live with that promise and enjoy your existence...

Josh Hanson - the young man murdered in this video, was a friend to two of my younger brothers.
I know as much as all of you about this evening and no more.
What I can say is this.....Josh was well known as a likeable person, a commited son and sibling to his sister, a hard working man who had a great deal going for him.
He wasn't on steroids and in the midst of roid rage that evening as he postured.
He was well built, young, full of drink and basking in the enjoyment of the company of his friends and girlfriend.
Drink can do funny things to a man and posturing is up there with them all, we all know this and brush off the posturing as it'll pass and we'll go about our usual lives the next day.
He didn't approach Shane, he would've tired of eyeballing Shane, he would have gone home and remembered nothing of it.
Shane made the decision to hurt Josh because his sense of masculinity was threatened.
This was a bar in Ruislip, not the colleseum in Rome.
Shane could have noticed the posturing, laughed it off and enjoyed his evening.
He chose instead to approach Josh, draw a blade and strike him.
He was no ninja, that blade was going to strike in the proximity of his intended aim at best and he knew this.
    He murdered Josh for posturing.
That was not Shane's bar, Josh was not his property, he was armed in a bar intended for socialising.
It was an evil act and he had lost any hope of making his life matter in any field or meaningful for it.
Two mother's lost a son that day.
Leave the guns and knives at home or at least if you do carry them....have the decency to write the word COWARD on your forehead, so that young men know not to damage your fragile masculinity when they eyeball you.
    RIP Josh.

    • @Virvum_Juggernaut
      @Virvum_Juggernaut Рік тому +37

I’m always armed, am certainly no coward, actively avoid physical confrontation and nor am I slave to ego. You are merely generalising based on this sole instance of a physically unprovoked attack on an unarmed individual (whom spat on the floor whilst looking in the attacker’s direction immediately prior to his own killing btw). You’re obviously emotionally invested in the murder of the ‘small-man syndrome’ suffering individual you know as Josh and your objectivity is clouded as a result. I’ve trained in bladed weaponry my entire adult life (30yrs in predominantly Katana & knife fighting) carrying a knife purely for the purpose of giving my woman and myself the best chance of survival if having no means of escape when accosted by unstable people, like Josh’s killer Shane, whom are intent on murdering me/her/us. I’ve been viciously stabbed on 3 separate occasions in the past, all requiring extensive surgery (but once to repair my bowel, with the injury’s resultant septicaemia almost killing me, by a man I didn’t know and had no prior interaction with). I’m confident that I would have ended it, if armed, before suffering the painful potentiality of my death and the ugly scars that remind me of the trauma on a daily basis. This type of scenario is the only reason I would ever draw my blade. Carrying doesn’t make me a coward, it simply makes me prepared. I have trained in boxing even longer than swords and knives, but am acutely aware of the fact that even though I can pummel any untrained man who attempts to assault me, conversely, any novice with a knife can easily kill me if I’m unarmed and he’s determined = Fact. I’m never getting caught with my pants down again and will certainly never be in a position where I’m too underpowered in order to prevent any harm (whatsoever) occurring to my partner. We never do clubs, or the like, precisely due to the fact that immature wankers like your mate and his unhinged killer frequent them in a lame bid at mistakenly believing that they’re coming across as the hardest one in the room. Due to your uninformed and inexperienced standpoint, you’re obviously young, so I’m not calling for the word “ignoramus” to be tattooed on your forehead.
Edit : R.I.P. to many more than just the one.

We need to teach ourselves and our kids get them trained at a young age in weapons training and martial arts, kids have become soft it's part of a setup the current education system is designed to produce compliant non critical thinking people. I agree it's better to have a weapon and not need it I'm prepared to accept the consequences when defended my loved ones especially if deadly force is needed for self defence

    • @luicastillo8630

I personally think that the killer did intend to do more than just show the victim a lesson. The move was very well calculated and from what I can see he was not even slightly drunk to not know the damage a strike to the neck can do. Horrible event.

    • @luicastillo8630
      @luicastillo8630 Рік тому +18

@@Virvum_Juggernaut Carrying a knife is an idea I could never contemplate. A man who is confident of his masculinity does not need to show anyone that that is the case. I understand that your personal experience may have changed the way you look at things, but if it was me, I would by now have realised that using weapons of any kind will have no positive outcome under any circumstances. Even using it as defensive instrument, as you mention, will still lead to life changing circumstances that any self respecting guy will not want. The best strategy is to leave the place before things escalate and getting to live another day as a free happy man together with your loved ones. Trust me, nobody will think you are coward.

    It's cultural.
You go to a bar in Bogotá, Colombia and no one's looking for a fight. They are more interested in dancing and having a good time.
Why? Because life is tough enough there already and out on the streets it's not so pleasant.
People in the UK haven't got a clue.

You're right, it's cultural. I have been living in Bogotá for 6 months and I love it here. Yes, the streets look rough but I have not seen one threatening situation since I have been here. The people are friendly and mind their own business. The bar scene is not as popular here as in the US or UK. Colombians seem to be more focused on work and family. Natural juices populate most drink menus here, not cocktails. Yes, you can order alcohol pretty much anywhere here but it's not shoved in my face like it is in the US.

I was out at a club once, a guy was giving dirty looks to the point where I told my friend I was going to leave to avoid conflict, did not know the guy never seen him in my life, 20mins later I was walking out and he came up to me shoved a gun into my ribs, he was super intoxicated slurring saying things like “you didn’t think I’d see you again” so Many things were going thru my mind at once, should I run, should I grab his gun?, I said to him, I don’t know you, I slowly reached for his gun and pushed it away from my ribs he was just staring at me we we’re almost in a slow motion tug of war it seemed like, as that was happening, a guy walked and told the guy with the gun, it’s not him you got the wrong guy! He grabbed the guys gun and told me to hurry and leave..
1 week later I saw that guy who pointed the gun at me in the local news, he had been shot to death.

Agreed on martial arts side, just wanted to point out most firearms trainers do often teach a form of basic 6ft rule, but in that situation nothing short of getting absolutely lucky (be a prep-movement or just where/how bad the wound ended up being) could save anyone caught in this type of scenario.
There are hard limits on how fast we are, even at our utter best. Would be wise for all of us to be more aware of that and not let ourselves be closed in upon. Simply never know when it is not someone looking for a simple bout of knuckles.
Seemed like a case of a person bolstered on liquid courage, vying for fight, and probably just needed a square meal and bed. Could've easily been avoided in so many ways like stated in this breakdown, instead two families are wrecked.

You touched on a lot of real life issues and situations.. The only problem I may have a difference of opinion on is.. In a bar environment, it's always different to standard fights, alcohol fuels ego..Ego creates unexpected problems.
With the exception of creating distance, I'm not a big fan of self defence for knife attacks, the sly and speedy way it happens, 9/10, if someone has all the intentions of stabbing /slicing you, (providing its not bluff) they will..
Knife attack... What a coward, clearly doubted his ability to fight..

I would really like to see a video or a channel talk about the trauma after a confrontation when you do “rise above/walk away etc” I’ve fought in the street and I’ve trained mma for years but I walk away now I am approaching my 30s. but the ego attack when it happens burns me for months finding the balance of staying strong and curb a potential fight N I hang out hope to see that person again n really really hurting them. I suppose it’s because I am insecure and care what people think of me. And I need an experienced mature person to talk about that and I go hope one day it’s Jay Cooper because I have a lot of respect for what he says in these vids and u can tell he’s a fighter that’s confident in himself and probably dealt and consolidated these thoughts as a fighter

Showed no fear, defused and walked off... but the whole time I felt like exploding from the adrenaline.
These people live nearby so sometimes I see them which triggers that anxiety again.
Really annoying because I couldnt deal with my feelings then and after. Being the smarter guy does give a very annoying feeling for a long time.

Comment is glitching or being flagged. Not sure but either way, this is a coward, committing a murder on a fellow club patron. You can't claim self defense when you are the aggressor and the armed individual, and had the time to draw your weapon and attack before the supposed "threat" even got his hands up for a fight. That is an assassination.

I don't know when this incident occurred, but when I was in the UK the risk in a pub confrontation was to get a beer mug smashed in your face with all the nice repercussions. You see, a beer mug is handy, and it is by definition not an illegal weapon you carry on you.
Most importantly, though, the victim in this attack looks clearly unwell standing there before the confrontation. I suspect he was in a poor position to react in any way to protect himself, even by stepping away.

In Ohio (US) in the 80s, the courts treated everyone under the age of 18 as a minor, and regardless of the crime, they could only serve 6mo in a juvenile detention facility.
We had guys (gang members) in our neighborhood who would disembowl people publicly and wait for the police to arrive and arrest them.
They'd do their 6mo and get out. It gave them a powerful street credit that you couldn't buy. Many people feared these guys.
I was a #1 target of this gang, and I lived in condition yellow (if not red). They knew they'd have to sneek up on me, and it happened regularly. Luckily, I trained hard, and my stuff worked, or I'd be dead 50x over.
Razors to the soft bits are no laughing matter!
My best advice is this: 1) Don't let people in close. 2) Talk a lot with your hands, often moving them to your face. This makes the timing of a sucker shot difficult. 3) Move around on your feet when people are nearby. Even look a little skitzy. This also limits sneak attacks. 4) Stay closer to walls and other large objects. This limits the variety of angles an attack can come from. 5) Train against sucker shots with your friends. This will greatly increase your reflexes and train in good responses.
Me and my close friends trained all of this into us, and we ALL credit these rules to saving our lives multiple times.

I definitely appreciate your comment, but I am curious. Why would my advice be worrying?
I can for sure say the legal and social conditions that were in place to lead to my developing this philosophy were worrying. But, my tactics definitely result in becoming a less inviting target.
I'm late 50s now, and just this week, I had two (probably 30 yr old) guys confront me in a parking lot. I know from my experience with hundreds of such encounters, they intended to attack me.
As they confronted me, I even came in fairly close. But, I removed all the targets that guys go for by making changes to our relative positioning, and talking with my hands moving to and from my face.
Most guys who "want to fight" really don't want a fair fight. They want to nail you when you're not expecting it and dominating you. If there's a 30% or better chance they can't, they'll move on.
The sucker punch street fight scenario is almost always about obtaining a reputation for being a bad ass. They will rarely risk a failed attack.
Simply deny them the openings that guys like that look for. I always say the fight starts way before the first punch has been thrown.
To sum up my philosophy: Don't be suckered into putting your guard down, and you can't be sucker punched.

When I was in my early 20’s I had to leave a house party and go to the local off-licence to buy some alcohol. I was drinking at the time. I stepped out of the store and a guy from this local gang tells me to give him my phone and says he has a knife on him. I go back into the store but the owner tells me to leave. I’m on my own and now worried what to do. I boxed since I was young in and out of boxing gyms but I was faced with a life or death situation and facing a knife…as I step back a second guy walks forward and goes to swing a bottle at my face. In that split second I twist and hit him with a right hook and to this day believe i broke his jaw, he dropped to the ground as his friends stepped back. They ended up leaving and I ran back to the house party but it could’ve been a much different ending had I been slashed
