ALMOST CRASHED! - Teaching My Girlfriend To Drive Stick..... In A BIG BLOCK 4 SPEED Muscle Car
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Dani has been hounding me for a while to teach her how to drive stick shift. Well the only cars we have that are standard transmission in the DD Speed Shop fleet are: a 1971 Chevy Nova with a 454 and a Muncie 4 speed or my 1966 Shelby Cobra.
Both not great vehicles to learn on....
So we pulled out the Nova, found and empty parking lot and went to work. Honestly, Dani did pretty well considering it was her first time driving a 4 speed. Heavy clutch, lumpy cam, manual steering, she had a lot working against her. In the end she pulled through and was rowing gears like a champ.

Dani has the personality/face where you have to laugh and there’s no way you could be mad at her 😂😂, she’s the coolest 🤙🏻
SHE IS CHILDISH
Sadly there really needs to be WAY MORE WOMEN, as cool as Dani!! Luck for me I have one such woman myself!! A woman that understands cars is such a rare find these days!!!
I've watched this 6 times, and now I'm absolutely positive that the Nova rides too smooth.
😆 Ageed😁
Teaching your loved one how to drive standard is not for the faint of heart.
Well done both of you. Good job Dani! You killed it, those 454s have a lot of power.
Oh. I agree. There can be some very tense moments for sure. Prepare for the worst. Arguing that is.
I agree, you're much better off getting a neutral 3 rd party to teach them, so they can be as hard on them as necessary without it resulting in your divorce.
It is very similar to loading/unloading a boat at a busy boat launch. Full stress lol.
Years ago I tried teaching my wife how to drive a manual transmission it would end in a argument. Then she would say WHY do I need to learn to drive a manual I'd tell her what if something happens and your only way out of a bad situation is driving a manual vehicle. We live in a very remote location our lane is almost 2 miles long my plow truck is a old ford 4x4 with a manual transmission what if I die wouldn't it be convenient if you can plow the lane. She'd answer then I'll learn at that time I told her whose gonna replace the clutch after you smoke the clutch trying to learn not me if I'm dead. Well needless to say she still can't drive a manual transmission a man can only do so much.
I had to teach my wife to drive stick 35 years ago after her Pinto lost a timing belt. She had one day to learn how to drive my X-11 Citation in order to make it to work the next day. After she got the basics down I took to a street on a big hill and told her stop mid way up. She actually nailed it on the first try slipping the clutch and not letting it roll backwards.
Her smile and little chuckle was priceless when she finally got it ! Great job Dan for keepin it together !
I don't even have to watch this to know it's going to be a good one. Dannie will learn in no time, it's like learning the controls of another video game. From bobcat to standard shes got this.
Dani did great. I’ve taught several people how to drive a standard and as always it’s first gear starts that are tough. She’s a natural, she’ll be wanting to put a standard in every thing. Great teaching too Dan, you were calm. That’s key to stay calm. You guys keep up the great content.
Teaching someone to start on a hill is the hardest specifically American cars e brake down low takes the person a min. Wre import right hand on the e brake got your two feet clutch and gas.free.
Outstanding Dani!! No problems you got this until the first stop sign with a hill!! Love it 😀
Just remember Danni: "If you can't find it--grind it." Dan can always fix it between projects! 😆
You are so right!
Keep up the practice Danni! We all learned the same way.
Your opel wont be as hard as this beast to drive.
Look at her face what opel dan will never see the nova again lol
Learning stick on a big block 4 speed aint easy, good job Danielle!
If your going to learn. Go Big.!
Don't even tell her the part about being stopped on a hill.
She'll have a panic attack.
I took my wife to low hill in a cemetery. She killed it few times . Then some asshole came threw there I got out to tell him to drive around somehow I embarrassed her she didn't refused to learn. anymore.
You go Dani you will soon be cruising the streets in a fancy 4 speed car . That’s great and you got good teacher. Stay safe. ✌️😎👍
Usually this would end in a fight, but Dan and Dani got this. Good job both of you
It would be a big fight if this was my wife and me. Lol. They did good!
@@unclemarksdiyauto Same here. LOL
@@jack002tuber LOL!
Taught my sister to drive stick. Used one of my dads dump trucks - 13speed transmission that was well used, no clutch brake, and a 8v71 Detroit- a true man’s truck. My mom though I was nuts but I told my sister if she could shift and drive that a car is easy. At the time the experience was well ….trying… but she got it. She wouldn’t be doing fancy float shifting but she got the basics. And could do it on her own. Years later she admitted that I was right and it was a huge confidence builder just knowing she could manage to drive something so large and difficult to shift. She respected that I could drive it so easily. Hats off to you for teaching!
That laugh you had when you both started the car the first time in the lot was great.
I taught my wife's son how to drive a standard by putting the truck in the bottom of a creek facing up the bank and told him to get it out. He got it on second try, stalled on first attempt. Perfect shirt for this event...:)...lol....fun watching this video, Dani's reactions are a blast.
It's always an experience learning standard but Dani did very well. With practice and confidence she will be wanting to drive the cool toys a lot more. 😄
I learned in a 1938 Chevy pickup. My dad wasn't as nice as you Dan. Took my test in a 68 Chevy with a 3 in the tree. Way to go Dani ! You'll be doin burnouts with that rig in no time.
Good for you Danni! Dan, kudos for your patience. Brings back memories of teaching both of my daughters to drive a stick. Yes, Danni, there were tears. Some of them were mine to be honest. I took them out on a frozen lake for their first drives. We started with the Jeep in 2wd so when they dumped the clutch too quick, the wheels would just spin. When they got the hang of things we moved to 4wd for more traction. They killed the engine a bunch of times before they got it figured out. The best part of driving on the lake is that we had lots of room in case they panicked and hit the wrong pedals. They both became skilled and my youngest who is now in her early 30s, still insists on owning a manual.
Dani is all about practice and confidence.
Keep at it and you'll be fine.
Great video as usual.
Just takes me back when I taught my son. Never laughed so hard. I feel for both of you. Danni you really did great. Everyone starts out like that's
One of the most honest and funny videos. Great success. Dani, next week go for burn-outs, donuts and wheelies.....
This was amazing 🤣🤣 I love the "no pressure but here's another slight issue added on" every few seconds at the beginning. She did great!
I learned to drive stick on a 5 speed 77 Chevy c60 with a 366 gas and two speed rear. I was told to get in and learn in a rock quarry. Got good after awhile. Teach her how to drive a three on the tree those are cool. Dani you crack me up you are awesome. Don't get to stressed.
Buddy, you're a good teacher.
Very calm, encouraging, and too the point. Awesome job, and your girl did good too.
Dan you have alot of patients and a sense of humor. Makes learning easier. Dani good job learning stick.
after my first kid i always taught them how to drive stick on the four wheeler first !once they learned the gas to clutch concept it was much easyer to switch over to the car!thanks for the laughs and the flash backs good times!!!
Oh yes the memories are coming back, I had to learn on a 3 on the tree, now that was a blast, never heard so many swears in my life till then. That's like riding a bike, you will never forget how to drive a stick, I'm 44 years old and my grandfather taught me in a 67 ford galaxie, 2 door hard top. Love to still have it. Great job Danny. Keep up the great work
Danni, I taught my younger sister to drive manual. It took me three tries ( 3 different times out.) and she caught right on. She was very nervous, it was my 1st new car. Dan & I never yelled which is most important...
Wow, I remember those days! Dani did good! Pretty soon she gonna be banging gears!
I had one quick lesson in driving a stick before going to Ireland. I rented a stick to save money because i was young and poor. It took me 45 minutes to get out of Galway airport and the car was gutless. I didn't realize until the end of the day the handbrake was on the whole way. By the end of a couple weeks I was power shifting and stopped for speeding by the Guarda. Good memories. You did good lady! One lesson I learned: learn to drive stick and burn up a clutch on somebody else's car.
You did a great job teaching Dani to drive a stick shift! My boss in 1983,yelled and screamed at me.ive never learned to drive a stick, probably because I like automatics.
Dan, i commend you on your patience! Danielle, dont get discouraged, once you get it, its forever! And good on ya for your willingness to try!
My brother tried to teach his future wife how to drive a civic, they were not happy with each other. I went for a few laps around the block with her and the rest is history.
OMG Guys that was a Great video! Dani You did Great! Dan you were an excellent teacher as well. Wow how cool to learn stick in a bad ass Nove w/ BB ans 4 speed! Bangin Gears! 🤘🔥
I have taught 3 girls to drive manual transmissions (my wife and two daughters). My daughters were actually the easiest because they had no experience at all, they both tell me that they have great memories of it, I don’t point out it’s why I prematurely went grey lol. It’s a great tool to have in your tool box of knowledge Danni, you did great and have a great teacher, congrats.
Danni starts the car with the petal to the floor. Dan laughs his butt off...."thats awesome " these 2 are awesome to watch. tried teaching my wife stick at 45 and it didn't go nearly this well
That was fun to watch. Brings back memories of teaching my daughter. She is now teaching her last of five kids to drive. But they are automatics. Not the same thing. But she learned on a stick shift.
Nice job Dani, you picked up on it quickly. Maybe Dan can teach me how to drive a BBC Nova 4-speed. It might take me a few burnouts to get it figured out. 😉
Dani almost Ed cried when she stalled it the first time. I almost cried as well. I wanted you to do well and you did! This is a good skill to know. Especially with older cars. You (Dani) seemed stressed a couple times. WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU, DANI! You got it! As to a Jetta TDI, almost impossible to stall one of those. That actually would be a great car to learn to drive standard in for the average person. Dani will do fine with a big block.
Love the look on Danni's face when she thinks she's doing something wrong. I'm sure the Nova is not an easy car to learn on. Very exciting to watch her 😳 go through the gears
Dannie you did a fantastic job learning how to drive stick Congratulations. I'm so happy for you now you can drive anything you want.
Yet Gonna Create a Monster Bro!! Big Smiles here for Both of You! Wait until she learns how to Side Step the clutch at about 4k! This Viewer is making a request for Launch Day. Thank you
Love her giggle when she got the shift
I taught my daughter to drive.... That was two years ago and we have only just started talking again.... You are a better man than me Dan!
First off she looks fine today. Then Dan, I don't know if I'd have as much patience but you nailed the patience. And last but definitely not least, Dani did GREAT! I can't believe it was her first time. She really nailed it!
Dani you did great you had a good teacher. This reminds me of teaching my gf to drive stick in my 12 second 72 plymouth satellite drag car, she got it in a few tries and was doing burn outs in a week, great times.
Great job Dani! Dan was a cool and calm teacher for sure. My Dad was a bit tougher on me. I learned on a just as difficult ride, a 75 F-100, 351w, manual steering, manual brakes, and a 3 on the tree. Oh and bias plies lol. Once you get the hang of it its kinda like riding a bicycle, once you learn you never forget. - Jamie
That was fun. Thanks D and D for putting this up!
Dani, you did AWESOME!!!, And Dan you did amazing teaching her. Great job to you both.
You're doing awesome Dani. I never got my wife out of the parking lot, lol. Now you need to take off alone and hone your skills. You have the basics down. Now you just need to practice.
I don't imagine the old Nova is the easiest to learn on 😲.Love you Danny 😉. Smiles 😃 from Huntsville Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
That was great she did great for a first timer in a car like that and you had some patience there
Nice job! Really fun to watch and brought back great memories. Thanks.
Way to go Dani! When Dan finishes the opal you’ll be a pro!
Nice smile Danni, you nailed your first lesson. Now its just practice, like riding a bike. Good job Dan. Stay safe guys.
Its ok to cry when you're learning something new! That's gold
I taught both my daughters how to drive a manual and LITERALLY EXPLAINED IT JUST LIKE YOU DID.... They watched youtube on dumping clutches and now think its hilarious to do burnouts. They both can drive the Honda like it's on rails... downshifting etc.
Good job Dani!
I learned to drive a manual on my dad's 63 Corvette 327 w/4.56:1 gears, so I can relate to her trying to learn a manual in a car like that.
It's GREAT to see a SMILE on a person when they begin to get driving a clutch! YOU will get better and your TEACHER is great for HIS patience and his great sense of humor! I almost forgot, YES it's okay to cry, be it good or bad and even nervousness! Good Luck and HAPPY MOTORING!😁😂😭🤣😁
I vote best video yet, watching Danni lern to drive a standard is great!
You know Dan,Danni is going to want a 4speed with a healthy 350 in her Opal. Just saying lol. She did superfantastic. Excellent job 👏 👍.
So I'm going to throw this to my daughter who was going to be learning in a 66 coronet 440 4 speed, Good video thank you
Perfect way to learn stick. Big block with a wore out 4 speed. She did an excelent job.
Well done you two! I have found, (a long long time ago), that teaching stick shift requires a low low HP vehicle. More for my sanity than anything else. I learned on an old military Land Rover back in '62, then refined my acquired skills in a police driving course '66. Never looked back, always love a stick shift.
Classic. She did ok didnt get pissed off. Its a great skill to have today, you will never know when you need to drive a manual.....
If Danny gets comfortable in that car. She can drive anything!. Well done!
Haven't driven a manual in years..learned as a child in every stuck vehicle imaginable...after I got good at it never used the clutch except at traffic lights
Congratulations that's one of the hardest vehicles to learn in because of the way it's set up. Before you know it you'll be racing it and loving it!
I think she did a great job! I've seen lots of people just give up because it's too "hard" way to stick with it! 👏
Way to go girl. I brought a relatively new Honda home in the late nineties and couldn’t wait to get the wife out for a test drive. She opened the driver’s side door, sat in, saw the stick shift and ran back in the house. I returned the car the same day.
We all have to start somewhere. This brings back good memories. I taught my Niece & Nephew to drive a manual trans. Being an old guy, I grew up with manuals. Well done, Dani.
OK one of the most funny and honest videos in this category. Dani, Next week, burn-outs, donuts and wheelies......🤣😂😅.
Such a fun video ! Dani and you are both doing having fun! Love watching Dani’s expressions and especially when her was bottoming out ! Excellent job Dani ! 👍🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
It is ok to cry when you learn something new. I cried when I learned to drive a stick shift car, 32 years ago. In fact, I'm still crying today.
Well Done Danny on giving it a go and you got it. Also to Dan, you did well at teaching her how to drive a manual. A hint Dan that may help... get Danny to ride the clutch a little more. When the car starts to move stop releasing the clutch... then when moving enough let it up the rest of the way.
Love it Dan!! I taught my chick to drive stick in a 64 GTO with a 428 and a 4spd... The old "right foot under the seat" worked like a charm!! Good thing too, because I was leaving on a 6 month deployment the next morning... Haha!!
I taught my wife in my beater BMW E36. lighter clutch, 1/10th the power lol. Dani did great!!
I never realized how quiet Dani really is. You two are amazing. She did an awesome job first time driving sticks in a race car. Dan you have amazing patience. And Dani you should have confidence as your first time on camera. You did great
Good job Dani Keep going girl your doing great
Dan, you're a VERY patient teacher!!! Great video!!
The struggle is REAL! True test of the relationship. Nicely done Dani!
It’s a Life skill driving a stick ,just like learning to swim or learning to cook Daniel, you did fabulous 🎉
shes gonna be speed shifting that beast in no time lol 👍
Hello from Southern Manitoba, awesome fun ! Great job Dannie. My wife drives a standard trans. You’ll be fine in no time. Great video. Thanks DD speed shop
She did alright...a big block/4 speed car can be intimidating to drive.
I learned to drive a 4 speed, with a Volkswagen beetle, I was around 10 years old. It was a great car to learn how to properly drive a manual on.
I absolutely loved this video. Laughed the entire time because it happened for Dani the exact same way it happened for me. Except mine was a small block Chevy. I had the same panic moments, cried because I was so anxious and then once I got it I was so proud. That is until I had to go in traffic. I felt like I was gonna die. It's not easy to sit and watch someone try to learn something that's so easy for you. So good job, Dan keeping it fun and laughing so she didn't feel so bad. You two are great!
Too cool Dani! This brought back memories for me. I too learned to drive a stick at 14 in my boyfriends 70 Nova, 427, Muncie, 4:11 rear. Even took my driver's license road test in it.(Hawaii) He regretted it though, as once I got it down , I turned into a burnout addict:) GitTDone Dani!
That may have been one of my favorite videos! She did awesome with the big block stick shift. That’s how everyone should learn to drive stick. Great Job Dani!
Congrats, 👍👏🏻 brings back memories, remember teaching X one, son and a daughter,Son was the hardest 💗❤️
MAN DD, YOU AND YOUR LADY ARE FUN AND REALLY COOL!! AFTER MEETING A BUNCH A WOMEN IN MY PAST, YOUR LADY IS SPECIAL AND A KEEPER, BELIEVE ME, A SUPPORTIVE WOMEN LIKE HER ARE PRETTY RARE TO FIND, A DIAMOND IN THE RUFF. HAPPY DD IS AWESOME FOR US ALL. THANKS FOR TEACHING CLUTCH BECAUSE IT'S BECOMING A LOST ART. KEEP ROCKING YOU TWO!!! ps/ loved the Perma grin on Daniel's face after she started to get it, so cool. Banging gears is so fun, everybody should learn 👍
When in Doubt, Both Feet Out!! Fun video, learning to drive a standard transmission. Watch out when stopping on those hills!! Lol!! Cheers!!
That was awesome! Reminds me of when I taught my sons how to drive a manual. We didn't laugh as much, but we got it done. haha
Great job Danielle!! Good teaching Dan!!
Everyone should be as lucky to learn stick in a bad big block nova! You did fine Danni! I learned in my grandpa's ford truck...fun times! Just rev it to 4 grand and dump it and hang on for some tire smoke and fun times!!! 😀 keep at it, you'll get the hang of it!
And she didn't torch the tyres. Victory for both of you. When I was learning I cooked them for the first month before I got the rythem down
I'm feeling so bad for her, but I'm sure she'll get the hang of it, and she's doing great cause you're being patient with her and that helps alot.... My oldest daughter run me in a ditch after she pulled out really good in a Ford Pinto lol...My youngest bbgrl sidestepped the clutch in a Dodge Omni and away we went, lol...She went through the gears good but I never asked her why she took off like she did, that was 22yrs ago, lol...I used to do it playing around when she's in the car and she's probably just showing me that she's been paying attention to much, lol...
well I just seen a comedy show at it's best? Queen DD driving stick.... I remember trying to get my wife two drive stick.... LoL 😂🤣😂🤣 love this video
I don't usually make comments like this, but y'all are so cute together.😆 It's not just learning a new skill. It is also spending time together and making fun memories.
My mom grew up on a farm and drove standard all her life . She borrowed my camaro with 202 head , headers , crane cam , single plain intake manifold and holley carb .
Only once .😇😁😉🤣😂🤣😂🤭
I learned stick in our 1964 Corvair convertible and after some time my oldest brother let me drive his "new" 1971 MGB. ;-)
